1.Evaluations of social and health care needs of HIV infected persons and of their families in Hµ Néi City, recommend a tailored care and support for HIV infected individuals

The study was conducted on 30 HIV infected men. The mean age was 24.2 years. 83.3% of participants were less than 30 years old. 4.37% had education level at grade II or higher. Most of them (74.2%) were infected due to sharing needle in drug injection. 6.5% due to sexual relationship with HIV infected people. 25% of HIV infected people remained have sexual relationship. Among these, 62.5% have sexual relationship with wife, 12.5% with sexual workers, 25% with sexual partner. 50% have unprotected sex. 86.7% of HIV infected people desired to have an appropriate work to help their families. 31.0% need financial supports. 21.9% want not to be discriminated. 12.5% need close cares. 56.2% have sought health care and desired to receive home health care. 34.4% receive medications periodically and 6.3% want to be hospitalized.

2.Investigation of knowledge, attitude and practice in preventing HIV/STDs transmission in sailors of some transport and fishery facilities of Thai Binh province

400 river and sea-working sailors in Th¸i B×nh province aged from 17 to 50 years were surveyed using designed questionnaire. Some demographic characteristics and knowledge of sailors in HIV/AIDS were noted. Results: Almost of participants have low education, 90% have not passed high school. Most of them have been married and are living with their wife. Most have been heard about HIV/AIDS (96.8%), but in the fact their aware remains to be limited. 86.5% believe that they are unlikely to infect HIV. 82.7% say that the infected person can be recognized by “flesh eye”. Most of sailors express relevant attitude and ability to practice correctly in preventing HIV/AIDS.

3.Rapid evaluation of HIV/AIDS epidemic situation and responding services of AIDS control in provinces and cities in the whole country

An investigation of cadres who participated to the HIV/AIDS prevention and control activity in 61 provinces and cities has shown that HIV/AIDS infected people were mainly at ages of 15-35 (73,9%), most of them were men. The health network for AIDS prevention and control did not meet the requirement of the AIDS prevention and control in some provinces. There was a lack of cadres for this program.

4.The knowledge about the risk of HIV/STDs infection of street children in Hai Phong, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City

In all three cities, the education on sexual for street children is still low, Da Nang (26.66%), Ho Chi Minh (43.33%). Their understanding how to use clean syringes and needles when they get sick or inject drug in Ho Chi Minh City is highest (61.7%), and lowest in Da Nang (31.0%). Knowing on sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) and how to avoid them is not different between three cities, highest in Hai Phong (53.33%) and lowest in Da Nang (40.0%). The understanding of the children about safety sex is still low in three cities, lowest in Da Nang (35.0%) and highest in Hai Phong but only 55.0%.

5.Situation of acknowledge, attitude and practice of mothers for acute diarrhea control in under 1-year children in Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province in 2001.

The study was carried out on the mothers who have under one-year children (350 children) in Kho¸i Ch©u district, Hng Yªn Province in 2001. Results: most of mothers understand well about causes, manifestations, management and control of diarrhea. 41.9% of mothers have good skills in practice, such as preparing ORS solution, feeding children, using drugs for children with acute diarrhea, detecting signs which show that the hospitalization is needed. However, the rate of children who were cured within 3 days remains to be low (24.8%). 75.2% of children have to stay for 3 days or longer.

6.Situation of AIDS prevention and control network at precints and communes in some provinces.

This study evaluated the organization and leading of AIDS prevention and control in all levels and efficacy of collaboration between authorities in the communal level. The information, communication and education activities were major measures to control AIDS. The prophylactic intervention of HIV transmissions as 3 ways: blood borne, sexual transmission and from mother to her child should be strengthen together. The care and treatment of HIV/AIDS infected people were considered in both health and social aspects.

7.The progress and immunity response to HIV/AIDS in Cao Bang and the struggle against this epidemic

Cao Bang is a mountainous province in North frontier, with a population of 482.839 persons in 12 districts and towns, 186 communes. The first case of HIV infection was detected in 1997 and in Nov.2002 there were 577 cases. The most common patients are young persons (79,53%). 95,66% are men . The education for HIV/AIDS control was developed continuously in mass media but it was not proper, the couselling and self-examination was low efficacy. The care, management and treatment for HIV/AIDS patients were limited. It must strengthen the quality of HIV/AIDS control education and profession practice. For HIV/AIDS control a proper policy and big ressources are necessary
