Ginsenosides, which belongs to triterpenoid saponins of plant terpenoids, are the main active components of the valuable medicinal herbs ginseng and American ginseng.Recent studies show that ginsenosides have a variety of beneficial effects, including anti-inflamatory,antioxidant,and anticancer effects.Ginsenosides are synthesized by complicated modification of triterpenoid skeleton after cyclization of 2,3-oxidosqualene through triterpene saponin synthesis pathway in which they share common early steps with phytosterols synthesis. It outlines recent advances for the biosynthesis of ginsenosides, the cloning and characterization of genes encoding key enzymes in the pathway and the basal framework of ginsenosides biosynthesis pathway. The prospects of secondary metabolism engineering in the biosynthesis of plant natural products and its application in ginsenosides biosynthesis are also discussed.

Objective To investigate the value of soluble epithelial cadherin(sE-cad)in the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion. Methods Patients were divided into malignant pleural effusion group, infective pleural effusion group and transudation group.sE-cad in pleural fluids obtained during the first thoracocentesis was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The concentration of sE-cad in all kinds of pleural effusions was compared. The cut-off value of sE-cad for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant pleural effusion was determined by ROC curve. The diagnostic value of sE-cad was also compared with common tumor markers such as CEA,CA199,CA125 and NSE.Results The concentration of sE-cad was significant higher in the malignant pleural effusion than in the benign pleural effusion[(38.38?4.15)ng/mL vs(14.17?0.80)ng/mL,P

In this paper, a detailed analysis was made on relevant literatures about bear bile powder in terms of chemical component, pharmacological effect and clinical efficacy, indicating bear bile powder's significant pharmacological effects and clinical application in treating various diseases. Due to the complex composition, bear bile powder is relatively toxic. Therefore, efforts shall be made to study bear bile powder's pharmacological effects, clinical application, chemical composition and toxic side-effects, with the aim to provide a scientific basis for widespread reasonable clinical application of bear bile powder.

The chemical constituents isolated from Desmodium species (Leguminosae) included terpenoids, flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids compounds. Modem pharmacological studies have showed that the Desmodium species have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, diuretic, antipyretic, analgesic and choleretic activity. This article mainly has reviewed the research advances of chemical constituents and biological activities of Desmodium species since 2003.

Acta Laboratorium Animalis Scientia Sinica 2014;(5):63-66
Objective To investigate the effect of heat stress on organ indices, intestinal morphology, gastric mu-cosal HSP70 mRNA expression and glucose metabolic hormones in mice. Methods A single-factor experiment was de-signed for the present research.Eighteen KM mice of the similar age and weight were randomly divided into control group and heat stress group. The weight of the heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney, as well as the expression of HSP70 mRNA in the mouse gastric mucosa were measured. The plasma concentration of insulin and glucagon, the villus height and crypt depth of the duodenum and jejunum were detected. The histological changes of the liver, duodenum and jejunum were also examined. Results There was no effect of heat stress on the organ indices. It significantly increased the expression of HSP70 mRNA in the gastric mucosa, reduced the plasma insulin level and caused serious injury to the liver, duodenum and jejunum in the mice. Conclusions Heat stress does not significantly affect the organ indices in mice, but can significantly increase the expression of HSP70 mRNA in the gastric mucosa, cause apparent damages in the liver, duodenum and jeju-num, reduce the villus height, crypt depth and villus height/crypt depth ratio of the duodenum and jejunum, and also de-crease the blood insulin concentration in the mice.

The enantiomers separation of thirteen drugs collected in Ch.P2010 was performed on chiral stationary phase of cellulose ramification (chiralpak OD and chiralpak OJ) by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) methods, which included ibuprofen (Cl),ketoprofen (C2),nitrendipine (C3),nimodipine (C4),felodipine (C5),omeprazole (C6),praziquantel (C7),propranolol hydrochloride (C8),atenolol (C9),sulpiride (C10),clenbuterol hydrochloride (C11),verapamil hydrochloride (C12),and chlorphenamine maleate (C13).The mobile phase consisted of isopropanol and n-hexane.The detection wavelength was set at 254 nm and the flow rate was 0.7 mL/min.The enantiomers separation of these thirteen racemates on chiralpak OD column and chiralpak OJ column was studied, while the effects of proportion of organic additives, alcohol displacer and temperature on the separation were studied. And the mechanism of some of racemates was discussed. The results indicated that thirteen chiral drugs could be separated on chiral stationary phase of cellulose ramification in normal phase chromatographic system. The chromatographic retention and resolution of enantiomers could be adjusted by factors including column temperature and the concentration of alcohol displacer and organic alkaline modifier in mobile phase. It was shown that the resolution was improved with reducing concentration of alcohol displacer. When concentration of organic alkaline modifier was 0.2% (v/v),the resolution and the peak shape were fairly good. Most racemates mentioned above had better resolution at column temperature of 25 ℃.When racemates were separated, the temperature should be kept so as to obtain stable separation results.

Objective To explore the permeability of nerve growth factor(NGF)through blood brain barrier and protective effect of NGF by periphery in neonatal rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage(HIBD).Methods The models with HIBD were established and NGF 5 ?g/kg was injected intravenously with 125I,and the permeability of NGF was observed by periphery through blood brain barrier of neonatal rats. Then apoptosis in each group was examined in tissues, samples of frontal cortex and CA1 district in cornu ammonis by TUNEL method. Results The contents of 125I-NGF in neonatal rats and ratio with blood content was higher than those of adult rats, then contents of 125I-NGF in neonatal rats with HIBD and ratio with blood content were higher than those of the neonatal rats(Pa
