Objective To investigate the relationship between the changes of serum total bilirubin(TBil) and hybrid muscle crea-tine kinase isozyme(CK-MB),and its clinical implication in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Methods The levels of TBil and CK - MB were measured in 49 neonates with HIE (15 mild cases, 20 moderate cases and 14 serious cases), and 31 normal neonates on the first day and the fourth day after birth. ?AIM:To investigate the causes and characteristics of retinal detachment after vitrectomy.?METHODS: Retrospective analysis of patients in our hospital in recent 4a who underwent primary, standard, three -port pars plana vitrectomy ( PPV ) . Retinal detachment occurred in 24 eyes ( 23 cases ) , 24-67 years old, average 49.0±12.0 years old.There were male in 17 cases, female in 6 cases, 6 right eyes, 18 left eyes.?RESULTS:Eighteen (75%) eyes without any symptoms were found during a routine check, 6 eyes ( 25%) with decreased visual acuity or in front of shadow.It took 1-223d from PPV to retinal detachment, average 40.7 ± 54.2d, of which retinal detachment occurred in 10 (42%) eyes within 1wk, 14 (58%) eyes within 1mo.The direct cause of retinal detachment was new retinal break ( a total of 27 holes ) in 19 eyes, proliferative vitreoretinopathy ( PVR) in 4 eyes, 1 eyes with primary hole not closed.All retinal detachment were ultimately completely reset.?CONCLUSION: The occurrence of new retinal breaks is the main cause of retinal detachment after vitrectomy, attention should be paid to the early postoperative peripheral retinal examination;after a timely surgery, the retina can be reset.

Objective To study the therapeutical effect of glutathione(GL),a powerful antioxidant on the symptoms and ECG in patients with coronary heart disease and its mechanisms.Methods Eighty-five subjects with coronary heart disease were recruited(45 male and 40 female).The patients were randomized to receive GL (240 mg,ivgtt,qd,for 14 days,n=44)on the top of conventional treatment(aspirin+?-blocks+ACEI)or conven- tional treatement alone(control,n=41).The serum MDA,SOD,NO levels were determined.Electrocardio- graphy(ST stage,T wave)was examined.Results GL significantly improved clinical symptoms scores(2.0+0.5 vs control:1.5+0.5,P

The effects of magnolol (Mag) on hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia, hepatic oxidative stress and cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1) activity of diabetic rats induced by high-fat diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ) were studied. After oral administration of Mag (25, 50 and 100 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) for continuous 10 weeks, the blood glucose and lipids (TC, TG and LDL-C) levels, as well as the hepatic CYP2E1 activity and MDA content of diabetic rats, decreased significantly (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), whereas the oral glucose tolerance and hepatic antioxidant enzymatic activities (CAT and GSH-Px) of diabetic rats, increased significantly (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). The results indicated that Mag was effective against the hepatic oxidative damage, hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia of diabetic rats induced by HFD and STZ, and the inhibition of Mag on hepatic CYP2E1 activity could be an important mechanism of Mag against hepatic insulin resistance and oxidative damage.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of decortication by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in pa﹣tients with tuberculous empyema, and discuss its indications. Methods 60 patients with tuberculous empyema who underwent decortication by VATS for surgical management from December 2010 to December 2015 were included. Under a thoracoscope, we cleaned up the pus, separated adhesions, scraped granulation tissues and caseous necrosis on the inner wall of the abscess cavity, and stripped the thickened fiberboard of the parietal and visceral pleurae. Af﹣ter the procedure, sufficient drainage and antituberculosis therapy were carried out. Results All the patients in this group were operated successfully. All the patients were cured without perioperative death and complications. No re﹣currence of empyema was observed at the follow-up examination from 2 months to 5 years, and suffered pulmonary reexpansions were better. Conclusions The decortication by VATS for tuberculous empyema is safe, effective, mini﹣mally invasive. The imaging manifestations of pleural thickening in 1 cm, no obvious calcification, no serious lesions in the lungs are the indications for the operation.

Objective To investigate the localization and surgical outcome of epileptogenic nidus of post-traumatic epilepsy. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on clinical data of 62 patients with post-traumatic epilepsy treated microsurgicallly from November 2005 to May 2009. There were 48 males and 14 females, at age range from 11 to 48 years old (average 28.8 years old). The epileptogenic nidus in 59 patients was localized based on clinical manifestations, visual electroencephalography (V-EEC) imaging and electrophysiological findings and that in three patients localized by implanted intracranial electrodes. Under electrocorticogram (ECoG) monitoring, we resected cerebral malacia in 36 patients, removed both malacia and epileptogenic nidus in 15, and partially resected cerebral malacia combined with cortex thermocoagulation in 11. Results The follow-up for 6-33 months showed that there were 32 patients at grade Ⅰ , 17 at grade Ⅱ , nine at grade Ⅲ and four at grade Ⅳ according to Engel classification system. Conclusion V-EEG is an important method for pre-operative localization of epileptogenic nidus of post-traumatic epilepsy. Microsurgical management can attain favorable outcome under ECoG monitoring.

ObjectiveTo investigate the value of “streaks” sign in diagnosis of central neurocytoma.MethodsFifty-two cases of central neurocytoma confirmed by pathology from 2008 to 2011 were collected.In 52 cases,both MRI and CT scan were performed on 12 patients,MRI only on 36 patients and CT only on 4 patients.MRI and CT features were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsIn MRI,the “streaks” sign was found in 39 cases,accounting for 81.25％(39/48).In CT,the“streaks” sign was found in 11 patients,accounting for 68.75％(11/16).The “streaks” sign in CTwas also found in MRI.ConclusionsThere is a certain specificity of“streaks” sign in central neurocytoma imaging.In combination with other imaging findings,it can be helpful for an accurate preoperative diagnosis of the disease.

AIM　To investigate protective effects and mechanism of tanshinones on ischemia-like injury models. METHODS　Six ischemia models including hypoxia, hypoglucose, oxidant injury, caffeine injury, nitric oxide neurotoxicity and excitatory amino acid injury were used to assay the anti-ischemic roles of tanshinones in cultured primary cortex neurons. The changes of injuried cortex neurons were observed by the way of morphological examination, and live neurons of crystal violet staining were measured according to absorbent index. RESULTS　It was found that tanshinones possessed obvious protective effects on primary neurons in injury models by the way of morphological examination. Crystal violet staining also indicated that tanshinones increased number of live neurons in injury models significantly. The protective effects of tanshinones on models of oxidant injury, caffeine injury and NMDA injury were superior to other injury models. CONCLUSIONS　83.0 μmol*L-1 tanshinones protected rat cortex cells from all injury models effectively in vitro.

Objective To investigate the effect of curcumin on tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-in-duced expression and release of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in rat astrocytes.Methods The primary astrocytes were prepared from the cerebral cortex of 5 neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats and cultured.The cultured cells were identified by immunofluorescence staining with glial fibrillary acid protein.The cells were then divided into 6 groups (n =15 each):control group (group C),TNF-α group (group T),TNF-α+ different concentrations of curcumin groups (Cur5,Cur10 and Cur20 groups),and TNF-α+ solvent control group (D group).TNF-α with the final concentration of 20 ng/ml was added and the cells were incubated for 2h in T group.In Cur5,Cur10 and Cur20 groups,curcumin with the final concentrations of 5,10 and 20μmol/L was added,respectively,the cells were incubated for 24h and then the culture medium was abandoned,TNF-α with the final concentration of 20 ng/ml was added and the cells were then incubated for another 2h.In group D,dimethyl sulfoxide with the final concentration of 1 μl/ml was added,the cells were then incubated for 24h,then TNF-α with the final concentration of 20 ng/ml was added and the cells were incubated for another 2h.After treatment in each group,the expression of MCP-1 was determined by immunohistochemistry and the release of MCP-1 was determined by ELISA.Results Compared with group C,the expression and release of MCP-1 was significantly increased in the other five groups (P ＜ 0.05).Compared with group T,the expression and release of MCP-1 was significantly decreased in group Cur20 (P ＜ 0.05),and no significant changes in the expression and release of MCP-1 were found in Cur5,Cur10 and D groups (P ＞ 0.05).Compared with group Cur5,the expression and release of MCP1 was significantly decreased in group Cur20 (P ＜ 0.05),and no significant change in the expression and release of MCP-1 was found in group Cur10 (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Curcumin can inhibit TNF-α-induced expression and release of MCP-1 in rat astrocytes and the effect is dose-related and may be one of the mechanisms of curcumin-induced reduction of neurophathic pain.

BACKGROUND:Healthy human umbilical cord jel y is a mucous connective tissue without vessels and has been used in eye plastic operation because of its elasticity and toughness. It contains lysozyme, placental globulin, hyaluronic acid enzyme, AMP antibody and complement, and also contains a lot of mesenchymal stem cells, so it is not prone to infection and rejection. OBJECTIVE:To observe the histocompatibility and histopathological changes of human umbilical cord jel y as a tarsal substitute transplanted for eyelid reconstruction in guinea pigs. METHODS:The mucous connective tissue of healthy neonate umbilical cord jel y was made into tissue blocks at even thickness. Models of tarsal defects were established in guinea pigs, and then the mucous connective tissue of healthy neonate umbilical cord jel y was implanted. Samples of implanted materials were col ected for histological examination at 1, 2, 3 weeks postoperation under light microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There were no obvious rejection, infection and eyelid deformation observed, the corneas of al the animals were clear, corneal epithelial shedding did not occur, and the eyelid could move normal y. One week after implantation, there was no infection and rejection on the conjunctiva and the incision of the eyelid, the eyelid could move normal y, and partial inflammatory cells were observed between the human umbilical cord jel y and the muscle of the eyelid with microscopy. Two weeks after implantation, there was no infection and rejection on the conjunctiva and the incision of the eyelid, the cornea was clear, the eyelid and eye could move normal y, and no symblepharon occurred;umbilical cord jel y showed the tendency of absorption, and the inflammatory cells were reduced at 2 weeks after implantation. Three weeks after implantation, the incision of the conjunctiva healed wel , the cornea was clear;there was no difference in the eyelid form and movement between the two eyes;the umbilical cord jel y was absorbed partial y, normal fibrous tissues formed and there were no inflammatory cells. With low immunogenicity, human umbilical cord jel y can guide the growth of new col agen and serve as an ideal tarsal substitute.
