ObjectiveTo investigate the role of myocardial calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) in a rat model of high-level spinal cord injury (SCI).MethodsEighteen healthy male SD rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into 2 groups:sham operation group(group S,n ＝6) and SCI group(n ＝ 12).SCI model was induced by dropping a 10 g weight onto spinal cord (C7) in freely vertical falling along the hollow glass tube from 5 cm height.The blood samples were taken 12 and 24 h after SCI in group SCI and 12 h after SCI in group S,and serum activity of creatine kinase(CK) and MB isoenzyme of creatine kinsse(CK-MB) were measured.Then myocardium specimens were obtained for uhrastructure examination and determination of CaSR mRNA and protien expression by fluorescence quantitative RCR and Western blot.Results Serum activities of CK and CK-MB and CaSR mRNA and protein expression were higher in group SCI than in group S.Serum activity of CK and CaSR mRNA expression were higher,and serum activity of CK-MB was lower at 24 h after SCI than that at 12 h after SCI.There was no significantly difference in CaSR protein expression between the two time points in group SCI.The ultrastructure examination showed that myocardial injury was found in group SCI.ConclusionThe expression of CaSR is up-regulated after SCI in rats,which might be the mechanism of myocardial injury after SCI.

Objective To study the conditions of callus induction with the roots of Aquilaria sinensis as explants. Methods Two sources of roots of Aquiliaria sinensis were selected as the explants. The effects of sterilization methods and the combination of different concentrations of phytohormones on callus induction were evaluated. Results When Aquiliaria sinensis root seedling was sterilized in 0.01mg/mL HgCl2 solution for 3 minutes, the sterilized effect was the best. The optimal callus induction medium was MS+0.1 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) +0.1 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA). Aseptic Aquiliaria sinensis root seedling cultivated in callus induction medium containing MS+1.0 mg/L naphthalene acetic acid ( NAA) +0.8 mg/L 6-BA achieved the highest callus induction rate. Conclusion Callus can be induced from two sources of Aquilaria sinensis roots. The induction rate of callus is lower when the explant root seedling is cultivated using 2,4-D alone as inducer, and is increased when used together with 6-BA.

In order to identify Cimicifugae Rhizoma from its adulterants and to ensure its safe use, the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) sequence of Cimicifugae Rhizoma and its adulterants were amplified and bidirectionally sequenced by DNA barcoding technology. Sequence assembly and consensus sequence generation were performed by the CodonCode Aligner V3.7.1. The genetic distances were computed by MEGA 5.0. Identification analyses were performed using neighbor-joining (NJ) methods. The length of ITS2 sequence of the three origin plants of Cimicifugae Rhizoma include Cimicifuga heracleifolia, C. foetida, C. dahurica was 217, 219 and 219 bp, respectively. Their intraspecific genetic distance was much lower than the interspecific genetic distance with their closely related species. The NJ tree of ITS2 indicated that the three origin plants of Cimicifugae Rhizoma formed a monophyletic clade, Cimicifugae Rhizoma and its adulterants could be distinguished clearly. The authors proposed that ITS2 sequence was suitable for the authentication of Cimicifugae Rhizoma and its adulterants.

The powder X-ray diffraction Fourier fingerprint pattern technique was used to develop a new quantitation method for the analysis of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide. And the high performance liquid chromatography method was used to evaluate the quantity of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide. The relationship of diffraction peak intensity and content of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide was investigated. The powder X-ray diffraction Fourier fingerprint pattern analysis technique can be used to evaluate the quantity of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide in the herb simultaneously.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between personality characteristics and turnover intention of the medical staff in an infectious diseases hospital. Methods: Using the cluster sampling method, a total of 366 members of medical staff were selected from different departments in an infectious disease hospital from May to August, 2013. The general information, such as sex, age, education level, and professional title, were collected and they were subjected to a survey using Cattell’s 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire and Turnover Intention Scale. The data were subjected to logistic regression analysis. Results: Compared with the Chinese norm, the medical staff in the infectious disease hospital had significantly higher scores of intelligence, stability, bullying, excitability, perseverance, social boldness, fantasy, privateness, independence, and self-discipline and significantly lower scores of gregariousness, sensitivity, suspicion, anxiety, and tension (P<0.05). Of the 366 members of medical staff, 22 (6.01%) had a very low turnover intention, low in 152 (41.53%) , high in 61 (16.67%) , and very high in 131 (35.79%). The logistic regression analysis showed that sensitivity, suspicion, fantasy, privateness, anxiety, openness to change, and independence were the risk factors for turnover intention (P<0.05) . Conclusion Compared with the Chinese norm, the medical staff in the infectious disease hospital have a better mental quality and a higher turnover intention. The individuals with sensitivity, suspicion, fantasy, and anxiety are prone to having turnover intention.

Objective To investigate the feasibility,safety and therapeutic effects of minimally invasive percutaneous mono-segment pedicle instrumentation in treating thoracolumbar burst fractures ( AO classification:A 3.1 and A 3.2 ).Methods Twenty-four inpatients with thoracolumbar burst fractures (AO classification:A 3.1 and A 3.2) treated with percutaneous mono-segment pedicle instrumentation from March 2010 to December 2010 were retrospectively studied.The operation time,blood loss,pre-and post-operative visual analogue scale ( VAS),ratio of anterior height between compressed vertebral body and normal vertebral body and vertebral kyphotic Cobb' s angle were evaluated.Results The operation lasted for (90 ± 25) minutes,with intraoperative blood loss of (20 ± 10) ml.The rate of anterior body height rose from pre-operative (56.5 ± 10.1 ) to (92.3 ± 12.2) one week post-operatively and to (90.2 ± 11.l)at the follow-up one year later.The vertebral kyphotic Cobb' s angle was pre-operative ( 16.5 ± 5.2) °,which was reduced to ( 7.3 ± 2.4 )° at oneweek after surgery and ( 7.9 ± 3.5 )° at the follow-up one year later respectively.The VAS scored ( 7.0 ± 1.2) points before surgery,( 1.2 ±0.7) points at one week after surgery and ( 1.1 ± 6..5) points at the follow-up one year later.The ratio of anterior body height at one week after surgery and at the follow-up one year later were both obviously higher than that before surgery (P ＜ 0.05 ),but the ratio one week postoperatively showed no significant difference in comparison with that one year postoperatively (P ＞0.05).The kyphotic Cobb' s angle had significant decrease at one week after surgery and at the follow-up one year later,as compared with that before operation (P ＜0.0 5).Also,the VAS score showed marked improvement at one week after surgery and at the follow-up one year later.Conclusions Minimally invasive percutaneous mono-segmental pedicle instrumentation is effective and safe for thoracolumbar burst fractures (AO classification:A 3.1and A 3.2),but it is not suitable for thoracolumbar burst fracture with severely compressed vertebra.

Objective:To evaluate the outcome of implant-supported all-ceramic fixed partial prostheses (FPPs)in posterior area. Methods:The clinical data of 1 20 implants-supported 53 fixed dentures in 47 patients were collected from July 201 1 to June 201 2 and prospectively studied.Complication and failure of implants and /or prosthesis,biological and technical complications were evaluated. Results:43 restorations with 1 00 implants in 37 cases were followed up for 1 2 -24 months.Veneering ceramic chipping was observed in 9(20.9%)prostheses.Inflamed marginal gingivitis was found around 3(7.0%)prostheses.No implant was involved in technical complication.Cumulative survival rate was 1 00% for implant-based analysis and 1 00% for prostheses-based analysis.Conclusion:Implant-supported all-ceramic fixed partial dentures may be a feasible treatment modality for posterior dental restoration.

Objective To analyze clinical features and sum up experience for the treatment of ischemic bowel disease. Methods Clinical data of 73 patients with the diagnosis of ischemic bowel disease were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsTwenty-eight patients were male and 45 patients were female. The median of age was 65 years (range of 38 to 89 years). Forty-eight patients were associated with hypertension, 23%(17/73) patients had a history of coronary disease and 15% (11/73) had diabetes. Seventy patients presented symptom of abdominal pain and 93% (68/73) had hematochezia. Symptoms relieved by conservative treatment in 96% (63/66) patients. Nine patients underwent a surgery. One patient died of sepsis postoperatively. One suffered from colostomy necrosis and leakage of the rectum segment. Conclusion 1. Elder patients presenting symptoms of abdominal pain and hematochezia, especially with a history of cardio-cerebrovascular disease and diabetes should be considered for the possibility of ischemic bowel disease. 2. Most patients with ischemic bowel disease could be successfully treated by conservative therapy. 3. Surgery for patients with chronic relapsing and nonresponsible symptoms was difficult and patients often suffer from high postoperative complications.

AIM:To investigate the effect of growth differentiation factor 11 ( GDF11 ) on the expansion of CD8 +memory stem T cells ( Tscm) and to further improve the effect of adoptive immunotherapy.METHODS:Healthy human peripheral blood mononuclear cells ( PBMCs) were isolated by density gradient centrifugation at first.Among the i-solated PBMCs, CD8 +T cells were further purified with MACS microbeads.The CD8 +T cells were then randomly divided into experimental groups and control group.The same volume of different concentrations of GDF11 were added into the ex-perimental groups, and the same volume of PBS solution was added into the control group.Finally, the expansion of Tscm in experimental groups and control group was measured by flow cytometry at several time points.RESULTS:GDF11 sig-nificantly increased the number of Tscm in CD8 +T cells in vitro expansion and also dramatically increased the ratio of Tscm in CD8 +T cells.Furthermore, 400 μg/L GDF11 treatment for 3 weeks was the optimal condition to induce CD8 +Tscm. CONCLUSION:GDF11 effectively increases the number and ratio of Tscm in the CD8 +T cells in cell culture growth, thereby creating a new strategy to further improve the efficiency of adoptive immunotherapy.
