1.The effect of the polymorphism of (AC)_n in the 5'-end of the aldose reductase gene on the erythrocyte aldose reductase activity in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To study the effect of the polymorphism of (AC) n of aldose reductase (AR) gene on the erythrocyte AR activity in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods One hundred and sixty three cases of type 2 DM and forty two controls were included in this study. The subjects were devided into DM without diabetic microangiopathy (DMAP) (NDC) (66 cases), DMAP groups (97 cases), and normal controls (CON) (42 cases); further, according to the type of allele, the subjects were devided into DM with Z+2 (DZ+2) (54 cases), DM with Z-2 (DZ-2) (35 cases), DM with both Z+2 and Z-2 (Z+2/Z-2) (18 cases), DM with neither Z+2 nor Z-2 (X/X) (56 cases), non DM with Z+2 (NZ+2) group (21 cases) and non DM with Z-2 (NZ-2) groups (7 cases). AR activity (ARA) was measured by modified Sriratava method. The differences of ARA were compared among these groups. Results ARA in DMAP group was significantly higher than that in NDC group, ARA in NDC group was significantly higher than that in CON group. Among DZ-2, DZ+2, Z+2/Z-2 and X/X groups, ARA was the highest in DZ-2 group and the lowest in DZ+2 group. ARAs in DZ-2 and NZ-2 groups were significantly higher than those in DZ+2 and NZ+2 groups respectively. In DZ-2 and DZ+2 groups ARA was significantly higher than that in NZ-2 and NZ+2 groups respectively. Conclusion The activation of AR plays an important role in the development of DMAP. Z-2 allele may be an activator and Z+2 allele may be an inhititor of AR.
2.Comparison of the effects of glimepiride and glibenclamide on neuropeptide Y secretion from hypothalamus in diabetic KK-Ay mice

Diabetic KK-Ay mice were given glimepiride (GM) and glibenclamide (GB). After treatment, the visceral white fat content, insulin and hypothalamic neuropeptide Y (NPY) levels were significantly lower in GM group than those in GB group, suggesting that in addition to the lower insulin level stimulated by GM, the lower concentration of hypothalamic NPY seems to play a role in lessening increase in body fat of type 2 diabetic animals treated with GM.

Impaired eady phase insulin secretion is an important reason for leading to postprandial hyperglycemia.Nateglinide is a rapid-acting insulin secretagogue,which reduces postprandial blood glucose of type 2diabetic patient by restoring early phase insulin secretion.The efficacy and safety have been fully verified by clinical administration and it is more widely used to treat type 2 diabetic patients.Both sulfonylureas and glinides were named insulin secretagogue agents and regarded as alternative first-line drugs in the 2010 Chinese Guideline for treatment of type 2 diabetes.AACE/ACE Consensus statement claimed that glinides would be one of the important choices after metformin.In order to further guide the clinical application of nateglinide,16 national specialists in the field of endocrinology and metabolism of China discussed,drafted,and edited this consensus.The current consensus combined clinical evidences at home and abroad.systematically reviewed and summarized tlle results of these studies about nateglinide.It will provide guiding recommendations and reference concerning how to reasonably and effectively use nateglinide in the clinical practice.

Objective To characterize the baseline status of Chinese diabetic patients based on data derived from Chinese cohort from SOLVETM study.Methods Patients with type 2 diabetes initiating basal insulin detemir at the decision of the physician were eligible for the study.Data on demographics,medical history,glycemic profile and treatment regimen at baseline were collected by physicians.Results A total of 3272 patients [female 42%,male 58%,mean age (56.2 ± 10.8) years] were included in the study.Their BMI was (25.3 ± 3.3) kg/m2.The duration of diabetes was 4.0 (0.1-27.0) years,and the duration of treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) was 3.0(0.0-20.2) years.The proportions of subjects with diabetic macro-and micro-vascular complications were 15.8% (515 cases) and 27.1% (866 cases),respectively.The hemoglobin Al c (HbAl c) at baseline was (8.33 ± 1.70) %,and the fasting blood glucose (FPG) was (9.5 ± 2.6) mmol/L.Conclusions A large proportion of patients with type 2 diabetes remain in poor glycemic control,and the prevalence of diabetic complications is high,which requires optimal therapeutic strategy for the patients with suboptimal glycemic control.
5.Comparison of Recovery Phase CT Features between Mild/moderate and Severe/critical Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients.

To investigate the computed tomographc(CT)features of mild/moderate and severe/critical cases of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in the recovery phase. Totally 63 discharged patients in Wuhan,China,who underwent both chest CT and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)from February 1 to February 29,2020,were included.With RT-PCR as a gold standard,the performance of chest CT in diagnosing COVID-19 was assessed.Patients were divided into mild/moderate and severe/critical groups according to the disease conditions,and clinical features such as sex,age,symptoms,hospital stay,comorbidities,and oxygen therapy were collected.CT images in the recovery phase were reviewed in terms of time from onset,CT features,location of lesions,lobe score,and total CT score. There were 37 patients in the mild/moderate group and 26 in the severe/critical group. Compared with the mild/moderate patients,the severe/critical patients had older age [(43±16) years (52±16) years; =2.10, =0.040], longer hospital stay [(15±6)d (19±7)d; =2.70, =0.009], higher dyspnea ratio (5.41% 53.85%; =18.90, <0.001), lower nasal oxygen therapy ratio (81.08% 19.23%;=23.66, <0.001), and higher bi-level positive airway pressure ventilation ratio (0 57.69%; =25.62, <0.001). Time from onset was (23±6) days in severe/critical group, significantly longer than that in mild/moderate group [(18±7) days] (=3.40, <0.001). Severe/critical patients had significantly higher crazy-paving pattern ratio (46.15% 10.81%;=4.24, =0.039) and lower ground-glass opacities ratio (15.38% 67.57%; =16.74, <0.001) than the mild/moderate patients. The proportion of lesions in peripheral lung was significantly higher in mild/moderate group than in severe/critical group (78.38% 34.61%; =13.43, <0.001), and the proportion of diffusely distributed lesions was significantly higher in severe/critical group than in mild/moderate group (65.38% 10.81%; =20.47, <0.001). Total CT score in severe/critical group was also significantly higher in severe/critical group than in mild/moderate group [11 (8,17) points 7 (4,9) points; =3.81, <0.001]. The CT features in the recovery stage differ between mild/moderate and severe/critical COVID-19 patients.The lung infiltration is remarkably more severe in the latter.

6.The role of jasmonic acid in stress resistance of plants: a review.

Jasmonic acid (JA), a plant endogenously synthesized lipid hormone, plays an important role in response to stress. This manuscript summarized the biosynthesis and metabolism of JA and its related regulatory mechanisms, as well as the signal transduction of JA. The mechanism and regulatory network of JA in plant response to biotic and abiotic stresses were systematically reviewed, with the latest advances highlighted. In addition, this review summarized the signal crosstalk between JA and other hormones in regulating plant resistance to various stresses. Finally, the problems to be solved in the study of plant stress resistance mediated by JA were discussed, and the application of new molecular biological technologies in regulating JA signaling to enhance crop resistance was prospected, with the aim to facilitate future research and application of plant stress resistance.
