OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of atorvastatin combined with methylprednisolone on the liver function of ne-phrotic syndrome patients. METHODS:The data of 93 patients with primary nephritic syndrome were retrospectively analyzed and divided into atorvastatin group, methylprednisolone group and combination group by different medication. Atorvastatin group was orally given atorvastatin 20 mg at bedtime, once a day+aspirin;methylprednisolone group was orally given methylprednisolone 0.8 mg/kg in the early morning, once a day+aspirin;combination group was given atorvastatin+methylprednisolone+aspirin(the same usage and dosage with the above-mentioned groups). The course was 4 weeks. The clinic data was observed, including ALT,AST, GGT,TB and DB before and after treatment, the incidence of patients with drug-induced liver disease and prognosis of patients with drug-induced liver disease. RESULTS:After treatment, the ALT,AST and GGT in atorvastatin group and combination group were significantly higher than before, with significant difference(P<0.05);compared with other parameters and all indexes in methylprednisolone group before and after treatment, there were no significant differences(P>0.05). There was no significant dif-ference in the elevated rate of ALT among groups(P>0.05);the incidence of drug-induced liver disease in combination group was significantly higher than atorvastatin group and methylprednisolone group, with significant difference(P<0.05). ALT in combina-tion group was significantly decreased and returned to pretreatment levels after atorvastatin withdrawal and 2 weeks of hepatoprotec-tants treatment for 7 patients with drug-induced liver disease. CONCLUSIONS:Atorvastatin combined with methylprednisolone has high risk on liver function in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome. Pretreatment levels can be recovered by both drug withdrawal and symptomatic treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Naohuandan Recipe on learning and memory abilities of SAM-P/8 mice and its role in anti-oxidation and anti-apoptosis. METHODS: Forty SAM-P/8 mice were randomly divided into four groups, which were untreated (normal saline-treated) group, Yinkeluo Tablets (extracts of gingko leaf)-treated group, low-dose Naohuandan Recipe-treated group and high-dose Naohuandan Recipe-treated group. Mice in these groups were given corresponding drugs orally for 105 days. Then the performances of learning and memory of mice were tested by a step-down passive avoidance task and a Y-maze test. The serum levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were detected. The expression level of bcl-xl mRNA in cerebral cortex and hippocampus of mice was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS: The performances of learning and memory in the Yinkeluo Tablets-treated group, low- and high-dose Naohuandan Recipe-treated groups were significantly improved as compared with those in the untreated group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and such performance was the best in the high-dose Naohuandan Recipe-treated group among these four groups (P<0.01). The serum levels of SOD and GSH-Px and the expression of bcl-xl mRNA in cerebral cortex and hippocampus of mice in the Yinkeluo Tablets-treated group, low- and high-dose Naohuandan Recipe-treated groups were also significantly higher than those in the untreated group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), while the serum level of MDA in the untreated group was higher than that in the other three groups (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Naohuandan Recipe can improve learning and memory abilities of SAM-P/8 mice, and this effect may be related to its anti-oxidation efficacy and enhancement of expression level of bcl-xl mRNA.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2003;20(3):546-549
Clinically, there has been so far no effective way to repair the bone-missing of large extent due to gash, infection and removal of tumor. The solution of this problem can be assisted by the addition of bioactive substances to substrate materials, because the growth of peripheral tissue and the fiber tissue growing the materials can be induced to the direction of bone-tissue by these biomaterials with bioactive peptides. The peptide Arg-Gly-Asp is the point between the integrin which comes from membrane and the ligand. In certain cases, the artificially synthesized RGD can be competitively combined with the integrin on cell surface, and outer-cell information is transmitted into cells, which will cause a series of physiological changes in cells. Presently, it is reported that the RGD has the ability to induce the growth of osteoblasts, restrain the adhesion between osteoclasts and substrates. This paper reviews and introduces the progress made with the work of RGD-inducing bone regeneration.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2010;27(2):458-462
Tissue engineered meniscus provides a novel approach for the treatment of severe meniscus injury. The researches on scaffold for tissue engineered meniscus is an essential element. The researches on scaffolds for tissue engineered meniscus, including natural biomaterials and synthetic polymer, have made great advances in recent years. At present, collagen meniscus implants have been used in clinical practice. As hydrogel is characterized by having high water content and good biocompatibility, being similar to extracellular matrix in structure, and being able to provide access to microsurgery, it has become the hotspot field in recent years. Meanwhile, the combinatorial scaffold material advantages of biological composite tissue engineered scaffolds also illuminate the key point of research on meniscal scaffolds. This paper reviews the recent progress in betterment of the scaffolds so as to provide a theoretical and practical basis for further researches of tissue engineered meniscus.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2002;19(1):13-16
A new method of using photoactivable ester with azido group was described to immobilize urease on polyether sulfone(PES) film surface. The effects of photoactive enzyme concentration, temperature, pH, irradiation time on the activity of immobilized urease were investigated. Reused times and storage stability were also studied. The results showed that the surface concentration of urease immobilized on PES surface was about 0.33 mg/cm2. When the irradiation time was 5 minutes, the relative activity of immobilized urease was the highest and the activity increased with the increase of the concentration of photoactive urease solution. The optimum pH and temperature of immobilized urease were 7 and 50 degrees C respectively. The relative activity of immobilized urease was stable (50%) after 12 times reused at 50 degrees C.
