1.Report on Testing the Sera for HIV Antibodies in Blood Donors from Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces
Chinese Journal of Blood Transfusion 1988;0(01):-
It was showed that the blood and its some products are the main source that can transmit the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), 21 146 blood donors from some rural areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces had been subjected to screening their sera for HIV antibodies by ELISA, indicating that 89 of them showed the positive enzyme-labeled antibody reaction. The sera of all the 89 blood donors had been further tested by westernblot (WB), 85 of whom had had the negative results, with the rest 4 blood donors having the bands of P24 and/or P55. These 4 blood donors who had passed the serological follow-up for 9 months, did not have showed and new bands. According to the judgment criteria recommended by the Consortium for Retrovirus Serology Standardization of the United Sates, these 4 blood donors can be considered as the donors with nonspecific bands.

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo compare the differences of aerodynamic characteristics of pharyngeal cavity between normal subjects and OSAHS patients, and to study the nasal obstruction in the pathogenesis of the OSAHS.METHODSA total of 60 normal subjects and 60 OSAHS patients were enrolled in this study. Numerical simulation was performed to calculate the airflow dynamic indexes of three sections of pharyngeal cavity. Correlation analysis of the nasal resistance and negative pressure were studied.RESULTSThe average pharyngeal negative pressure and airflow velocity in OSAHS patients were significantly increased than that in normal subjects. The total nasal airway resistance significantly correlated with the average negative pressure of pharyngeal cavity. CONCLUSIONAirflow dynamic indexes of OSAHS patients had significant different pharyngeal aerodynamic characteristics from normal subjects. The increased average negative pressure in pharynx might contribute to the severity of pharyngeal collapse for OSAHS patients. Higher total nasal resistance might play a role in the pathophysiological mechanisms of OSAHS.

Objective To determine the expression of cathepsin D (CD), cathepsin H (CH) and cathepsin L (CL) in human primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to investigate their mechanisms. Methods The protein expression of CD, CH and CL in hepatic specimens consisted of control (n = 17), HCC (n = 37) and paracancerous (n = 28) tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. The relative values of CD, CH and CL protein expression were examined with absorbent density analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS11. 5 software. The univariate analysis was used to compare the difference among groups. Results The mean absorbance of CD, CH and CL proteins in HCC tissues (1.21± 0.33, 0. 89 ± 0.22 and 1.16± 0. 25, respectively) were significantly higher in comparison with those in control tissues (0. 19 ± 0. 07, 0. 24 ± 0. 12 and 0. 28 ± 0. 14,respectively) and in paracancerous tissues (0.27±0.13,0. 31± 0.14 and 0. 36±0.15)(all P values =0.0001). Whereas there was no difference between control and paracancerous tissues with respect to CD, CH and CL proteins (P >0. 05). Three proteins immunohistochemically appeared as a lot of diffused spots and stripes staining in cytoplasma of HCC tissues, but only a few scatted spots staining was found in control and paracancerous tissues. Conclusion The high expression of CD, CH and CL protein in primary HCC may be important markers for carcinogenesis and malignant progress.

BACKGROUND:Previous studies have found that electroacupuncture can delay articular cartilage degeneration mediated by JAK-STAT signaling pathway through upregulating the expression level of transforming growth factor β1 as well as mRNA expression levels of STAT3, Smad3 and LepR. In the meanwhile, electroacupuncture can inhibit the mRNA expression of p38 and Fas mRNA mediated by MAPK signaling pathways, further inhibiting the apoptosis of chondrocytes. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of electroacupuncture on the degeneration of articular cartilage in rats with knee osteoarthritis based on Ras-Raf-MEK1/2-ERK1/2 signaling pathway. METHODS:120 male healthy Sprague-Dawley rats aged 2 months olds were selected and randomly divided into normal, model, 15-minite electroacupuncture and 30-minute electroacupuncture groups (n=30 per group). The rats in the latter three groups received the intra-articular injection of 4% papain bilaterally, and the remaining rats received no intervention. At 2 weeks after modeling, the latter two groups were respectively given 15- and 30-minute electroacupuncture, five times weekly for consecutive 12 weeks. The morphology of the cartilage was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining, the expression level of interleukin-1β in the synovium was detected by ELISA assay, and the protein expression levels of Ras, Raf, MEK1/2, ERK1/2, C-MYC, C-FOS, and C-JUN were detected by western blot analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that: in the model group, the cartilage surface was rough, the cartilage layer became thinner, and the cartilage structure was damaged with incomplete tidal line; in the 15- and 30-minute electroacupuncture groups, the cartilage structure was complete with clear layers and complete tidal line. ELISA showed that the expression level of interleukin-1β in the model group was significantly higher than that in the normal group (P< 0.01), and the level in the 15- and 30-minute electroacupuncture groups was significantly lower than that in the model group (P < 0.05). Western blot assay found that compared with the normal group, the protein expression levels of Ras, Raf, MEK1/2, ERK1/2, C-MYC, C-FOS, and C-JUN were increased in the model group. However, all above protein levels except ERK1/2 in the 15- and 30-minute electroacupuncture groups were significantly lower than those in the model group (P < 0.01,P < 0.05). To conclude, electroacupuncture inhibits the degeneration of articular cartilage in osteoarthritisvia Ras-Raf-MEK1/2-ERK1/2 signaling pathway and downregulating the expression level of interleukin-1β.

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo evaluate the curative effect of endoscopic sinus surgery from the viewpoint of biomechanics analysis.METHODSWe select one case undergoing nasal endoscopic surgery for chronic sinusitis patients, after half year follow-up and collect preoperative and postoperative spiral CT data to build a numerical model of nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses with computer numerical simulation (CFD) research methods, to explore nasal airflow distribution and flow field characteristics of value changes before and after the operation. Patients undergo subjective assessments: nasal obstruction of VAS score, olfactory VAS score, SNOT-20, objective assessment: Lund Kennedy score, Lund Mackay score, saccharin test time and acquisition clinical efficacy data to verify the credibility of the analysis method is feasible and the results. RESULTSThe nasal resistance after endoscopic sinus surgery in nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses numerical simulation decreased, middle meatus of nose and nasal air flow velocity decreased, the pressure change slightly;nasal threshold region, middle turbinate head end section in maxillary sinus ostium section, after nearly sieve horizontal cross-section average velocity decreased, nasal airflow for the mucosa of the shear stress reduced. The volume of the nasal cavity and the area of the mucosa was increased, the volume ratio was decreased, the subjective and subjective assessment of the patients was improved, and the objective assessment was lighten.CONCLUSIONAerodynamic rules are presented through the calculation of numerical simulation of fluid mechanics which is invisible before. Better understanding of changes in the nasal airflow distribution and the changes of flow field characteristics can be useful to establish nasal endoscopic surgery in numerical analysis of offshore platform, which provides a new research tool for the understanding of the pathophysiology of chronic sinusitis by endoscopic sinus surgery.

Objective To explore the relationship of Crohn's disease (CD) susceptibility to aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) polymorphisms and haplotypes in Han population in Wenzhou city, China. Methods A total of 310 CD patients and 573 age-and sex-matched healthy controls were enrolled in our study. Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of AhR(rs10249788,rs2158041,rs2066853) were determined by the improved multiple ligase detection reaction technique. Unconditional logistic regression analyses was applied to analyze the allelic and genotypic differences of each SNP between CD patients and controls, as well as their influence on the clinicopathologic characteristics in CD patients. Analyses of linkage disequilibrium and haplotype were performed by Haploview 4.2 software in all study subjects. Results Compared with the controls, the variant allele (T) and genotype (CT+TT) of (rs2158041) were evidently decreased among CD patients (19.52% vs. 25.04%, P=0.009; 34.19% vs. 44.68%, P=0.003). According to"the Montreal Classification Standards", CD patients were divided into different subgroups. The variant allele(T)and genotype(CT+TT)of(rs2158041)were significantly lower in patients with terminal ileum CD than in controls (16.79% vs. 25.04%, P=0.005; 28.24% vs. 44.68%, P=0.001). Similar conclusions were also drawn in patients with constricting disease when compared with the controls(15.20%vs.25.04%,P=0.003;28.43% vs.44.68%,P=0.003).The three SNPs above were shown to be in a linkage disequilibrium.Compared with the controls respectively, the frequency of haplotype(CCG)was increased in CD patients (44.73% vs. 39.60%, P=0.039), whereas that of haplotype (CTG) was decreased (18.02% vs. 22.78%, P=0.047). Conclusions AhR (rs2158041) variation might influence the risk as well as the location and behavior of CD. The haplotype (CCG) possibly increase the risk of CD development, whereas haplotype(CTG)might decrease it.
