BACKGROUND: Previous research reveals that, single-layer human amnion is effective to cure superficial bums, but it is still unsatisfactory.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of double-layer radiation-treated human amnion on the healing of deep second-degree burn wound.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized control study was performed at the Animal Experimental Center in the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University (Harbin, Heilongjiang, China) from December 2006 to May 2007.MATERIALS: Fifty adult Wistar rats of clean grade were burned and then assigned into five groups at post-injury 4, 6, 8,10 and 12 days, with ten rats in each group. Subsequent to the chorion removal, the fresh human amniotic membrane was dried and prepared into double-layer films, which were aporate or porous. Human amnion was then radiated using γ-ray for further use.METHODS: Following dorsal skin epilatiou and the anesthesia, all the rats were immersed for 8 seconds in boiling water to induce rat models of deep second-degree burns. One side of the burn wound was applied human amnion, while the other side was applied oil gauze.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Gross observation of the bum wound was carried out at post-injury 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 days. Meanwhile, light microscope, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope were employed to detect the histological changes of the burn wound, as well as bacteriological examination.RESULTS: Fifty rats were all involved in the result analysis. Sphacelism and crust were found in the burn wound treated with oil gauze, with the presence of focal ulcer at post-injury 12 days. Under light microscope, few hairs regenerated in dermis, especially hair follicle and hair root; Scanning electron microscope suggested a large amount of inflammatory exudates and leukocytes; Transmission electron microscope revealed an unclear structure of the cells. Bacteriological examination also indicated that the bacteria aecreted on the surface of burn wound. The treatment of double-layer radiation-treated human amniou healed the burn wound at post-injury 10 and 12 days, and the hairs grew with the same manner as that of normal skin. Epidermis tissues were proved to be normal skin at post-injury 12 days by means of light microscope, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. Bacteriology was detected to be negative.CONCLUSION: Double-layer radiation-treated human amnion plays a protective role on the burn wound in rats. It may facilitate epithelial growth, avoid wound infection and accelerate the healing of deep second-degree burn.

Objective:To investigate Intraflagellar Transport 80 (IFT80) protein expression in bone, lung, pancreatic, stomach, in-testinal, prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers to explore its mechanism in cancer cell proliferation and to diagnose and identify new tar-gets in cancer treatment. Methods:Immunohistochemistry was used to investigate the expression of IFT80 in gastric cancer tissue of different stages and in eight other kinds of human cancer tissues. We studied the relationship between cancer cell proliferation and inhi-bition of IFT80. Immunofluorescence method and cell culture were used to study the cilia and IFT80. Results:Results showed the fol-lowing:a) the expression of IFT80 was high in gastric and lung carcinoma tissues, moderate in breast and colorectal cancers, low in bone and ovarian cancers, and nearly absent in prostate and pancreatic cancers;b) inhibition of IFT80 in the A549 cancer cell line accel-erated cell proliferation and resulted in shorter, lower quality cilia;and c) IFT80 was abundantly expressed in cancer tissues of well-dif-ferentiated stage-IIA gastric cancer and normal gastric tissues, but was hardly expressed in late-stage, poorly differentiated gastric can-cer. IFT80 could have various degrees of expression in gastric carcinoma of other stages and differentiation. Conclusions:Different can-cer organs showed variation in IFT80 expression. IFT80 can be distributed in the organs with mechanical motion function, such as lungs and stomach. IFT80 is distributed on the cell cilia and can adjust the number and length of the cilia by reducing IFT80 protein ex-pression. Through a variety of ways, IFT80 directly or indirectly participates in the proliferation of cancer cells. Thus, the lowest or nearly zero expression of IFT80 can be seen in cancer tissues of high-grade malignancy, such as advanced cancers with poor differentia-tion.

Objective To investigate high risk factors associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in married women aged 25 to 54 years in Beijing. Methods From Mar. 2007 to Sep.2008, 6339 married women at age of 25 to 54 years were selected randomly by cross sectional survey in a total of 137 communities of 12 districts or counties in Beijing. The interview was carried out with unified questionnaires, gynecological examination. The cervical smear cytology and high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection of cervical secretion were detected. Women with abnormal cervical cytology underwent colposcopy and cervical biopsy. Odd ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of related high risk factors with CIN were studied by logistic regression analysis. Results Among 6339 women, the prevalence rate of CIN including 4 squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was 5. 90% (374/6339). By multinomial regression analysis, HR-HPV infection (95% CI: 9. 953 - 15.811 ), History of trichomonas vaginitis (95 % CI: 1. 046 -2. 104), oral contraceptives (95% CI: 1. 087 - 1. 806), age less than 45 years old ( 95% CI: 1. 069 -1. 828) were related with CIN. Conclusion Infection rate of HR-HPV is an independent risk factor of CIN, however, the history of trichomonas vaginitis, oral contraceptives and age less than 45 years old are related risk factors of CIN.

Objective:To explore the clinical and electrophysiological characteristics of flail arm syndrome (FAS).Methods:Clinical and electrophysiological data were collected on 13 FAS patients and 31 persons with upper limb onset amyotropic lateral sclerosis (UL-ALS), including the amplitude of compound muscle action potential (CMAP) related to median nerve, ulnar nerve, and axillary nerve motor conduction. A split-hand index (SI) was calculated by dividing the CMAP amplitude of abductor pollicis brevis by that of the abductor digiti minimi. Clinical features, the CMAP amplitudes and SIs were compared between the FAS and UL-ALS patients. Results:Compared with UL-ALS patients, the age at onset among the FAS patients was older (averaging 60.9 years). The development to the second stage was longer (24±6 months). The upper limb reflexes of 15% of the FAS patients had disappeared and those of 77% were weakened, while the lower limb reflexes of 54% of the FAS patients were active and 38% were weakened, significantly different from the UL-ALS patients. However, there were no significant differences in the CMAP amplitudes of the median and ulnar nerves, nor in SI between the FAS and UL-ALS patients. The SIs of the FAS patients with upper motor neuron signs were significantly lower than those of FAS patients without such signs. Among the FAS patients, the average CMAP amplitude of the ulnar nerve was the highest, followed by those of the median and axillary nerves. Among the UL-ALS patients, however, the average CMAP amplitude of the ulnar nerve was not significantly different from that of the axillary nerve. Conclusions:FAS patients with upper motor neuron signs are more likely to have slip hand. The CMAP amplitude of their axillary nerve tends to be lower than that of their median and ulnar nerves. FAS seems to be a special type of ALS.

Objective:To investigate the effect of anterior or posterior debridement on infections of the lumbar vertebral fusion with cage and pedical screw system. Methods:A total of 10 cases (3 males and 7 females, age 49.80±13.29 years) with infections in the lumbar fusion device were admitted from January 2013 to December 2019. The cases were diagnosed with deep infections after the preview surgery at 10.80±13.24 months, including 10 cases with 12 cages infections and 8 cases with screw system infections. 7 cases were done with debridement and removal of the cages via the anterior approach. And another 3 cases underwent posterior debridement and removal of lumbar fusion cages. The changes in laboratory examination such as WBC count, ESR, CRP, visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score were compared preoperatively, 2 months and 6 months postoperatively. Results:No patients were lost in the follow-up. The average follow-up time periods is 16.30±5.10 months (range 9-24 months). There was no significant difference in WBC count between 2 and 6 months after surgery compared with preoperation ( F=0.855, P=0.436). The ESR, CRP, VAS and ODI scores decreased in 2 months and 6 months after sugery, which has significant differences compared preoperation ( P<0.05). The abnormal signals in the lambar vertebral showed a gradual fading trend in the postoperative MRI. The completely fading time was 5.00±1.33 months (range 3-7 months). One-stage bone grafting was performed in 6 cases with 8 spaces via anterior approach, 5 cases with 7 spaces showed the intervertebral fusion after postoperative with 6.80±2.28 months (range 4-10 months), 1 case wirh 1 space was not fused. One-stage bone grafting was performed in 2 cases via posterior approach: 1 case was fused after postoperative and the other patient was not, which due to bone graft area infection. Postoperative bone graft displacement occurred with 1 case and 1 case with L 5 nerve root pulling injury during the operation. Conclusion:The fusion cage can be removed by debridement via posterior approach, but it is difficult to done the completely debridement, which the main reason is the obstruction of the posterior nerve and bone structure. Posterior approach also have risks of infection recurrence and nerve root injury. Cage removal via anterior approach was relatively easy and debridement was thoroughly, which has the risk of injury of important adjacent vessels.
