ObjectiveTo analyze the effect of temporal distance parameters on comfortable and maximal walking speed of hemiplegic stroke patients.MethodsThe comfortable and maximal walking speed of 85 hemiplegic stroke patients were tested by 10 m walking speed and temporal distance parameters of gait cycle were obtained. The effect of step length and walking rate on comfortable and maximal walking speed was analyzed.ResultsStep length and walking rate were significantly positive related to comfortable and maximal walking speed (r=0.849-0.915,P<0.001).The step regression analysis selected step length as a significant variable for comfortable and maximal walking speed (R2=0.835,R2=0.827,respectively). ConclusionThe important parameter that influences comfortable and maximal walking speed of hemiplegic stroke patients is step length.

Objective To observe the clinical effects of atorvastatin combined with clopidogrel on the prevention of carotid artery atherosclerostic plaques in aged patients with infarction. Methods Eighty aged patients with infarction, admitted to out hospital from July 2006 to September 2010, were chosen; these patients were randomly divided into observation group (n=40, giving treatment of atorvastatin combined with clopidogrel) and control group (n=40, giving treatment of treatment of Clopidogrel). The levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (CH), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), the blood viscosity and the platelet maximum aggregation rate (MAR) were measured and the plaque scores were evaluated 4, 12 and 24 w after the treatment. Results As compared with those before treatment, the levels of TG, LDL-C and MAR in the control group 24 w after treatment, and the levels of TG and CH in the observation group 12 w after treatment and the levels of TG, CH, LDL-C and MAR in the observation group 24 w after the treatment were significantly decreased (P<0.05). As compared with the control group, the observation group enjoyed significantly lower level of CH 12w after the treatment and lower levels of TG, CH and LDL-C 24 w after the treatment (P<0.05). Lower plaque scores in the observation group were noted as compared with that in the control group 24 w after the treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion Atorvastatin combined with clopidogrel can safely prevent and stabilize the carotid artery atherosclerostic plaques in aged patients with infarction.

Objective To introduce a new technique for urethral coverage in Snodgrass hypospadias repair, and to evaluate its effectiveness and complications. Methods From April 2003 to February 2006, this new procedure was performed in 289 children with hypospadias aged 3 months to 12 years (mean age,2. 4 years). The native meatus of urethra was identified subcoronal in 78 cases,penile/shaft in 136,penoscrotal in 36 and scrotal in 16;and 23 cases had undergoneⅡstage operation and re-operation.The overlapping coverage with bilateral shaft based vascularized dartos pedicle was done in the new urethra by Snodgrass hy- pospadias repair in these children. Results All the cases were followed for 3 months to 2 years.Postoper- atively, urinary fistulas developed in 32 cases (11%).Of them,11 were cured spontaneously within 4 weeks. The incidence of actual urinary fistula was 7% (21/289).Of the 21 fistulas which were not cured,11 (5%) occurred in 214 cases of distal hypospadias;and 10 (13%) in 75 cases of proximal hypospadias,Ⅱstage and re-operation.No dehiscence and diverticulum was found.Combined with mucosal collar technique, the ventral skin of the penis was sewn on the midline.During the follow-up,excellent cosmetic results with normal-ap- pearing circumcised penis were achieved in most patients. Conclusions Bilateral shaft based vascularized dartos pedicle urethral coverage procedure is a reliable and effective method for preventing urethral cutaneous fistulas and dehiscence. This method can reconstruct a satisfactory cosmetic appearance of the penis.

OBJECTIVETo measure the translucency parameter (TP), masking effect (ME), and contrast ratio (CR) of opal porcelain of Ceramco, Shofu, Noritake, and Vita, and to compare the correlations among the three transmission parameters, in order to provide reference for selecting opal porcelain correctly.
METHODSThe color of specimens was measured according to CIE L*a*b* under different background and reflectance mode with a Color-Eye 7000A spectrophotometer. The color difference, TP, and ME value were calculated. Within 400-750 nm spectra, the ratio of light reflectance was measured, and CR was also calculated. The data was compared by ANOVA and SNK-q test (alpha=0.05). The correlation and multiple linear regression between TP, CR, and ME were analyzed (alpha=0.05).
RESULTSThere were statistical difference with different shade of the same brands (P<0.05). The correlations between ME and TP, TP and CR, ME and CR were existed (P<0.05). TP was correlated not only with ME but also with CR based on multiple regression analysis (P<0.05). The partial correlation coefficients were statistically significant (P<0.05). CR was the main devotion to translucency parameter on multiple regressions.
CONCLUSIONIt is recommended to select opal porcelains based on transmission parameters. CR value has an inner significance of opaque property of opal porcelain and can express opacity property of opal porcelain more appropriately than ME.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of the timed “up and go” test (TUGT) on measuring functional mobility of stroke patients.MethodsNinety hemiparetic stroke patients participated in this study. The balance, gait speed and disability of patients were measured by Berg balance scale (BBS), maximal gait speed and functional independence measure (FIM) to find out the critical value of TUGT.ResultsA good relationship existed among TUGT and the BBS,gait speed and FIM (r=-0.926—-0.674,P<0.001).The percentage of independent walking of stroke patients whose TUGT scores <10s or>20s were 100% and 8.3%. The optimal cut off values of TUGT to predict the independent walking of patients were 15.2s, and in stroke group sensitivity and specificity of TUGT were 89.4% and 79.1%.Conclusion TUGT is a reliable instrument with adequate concurrent validity to measure the functional mobility of stroke patients.

ObjectiveTo determine the correlation between qualities of life(QOL) and depression, anxiety in cancer patients.Methods91 cancer patients was measured with self anxiety scale(SAS),self depression scale(SDS) and SF-36.ResultsDepression occurred in about 51.5% and anxiety occurred in about 24.1% of the general patients. The patients without depression showed a higher QOL than those with depression(P<0.05),and the patients without anxiety showed a higher QOL than those with anxiety(P<0.01).ConclusionDepression and anxiety are associated with poor quality of life, which should be put into plans of nursing.
