1.A clinical study of gelatamp colloidal silver gelatin sponge on preventing the complication of teeth extraction.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical effect of Gelatamp colloidal silver gelatin sponge on preventing the complication of teeth extraction.
METHODS672 teeth were divided into experimental group and control group semi-randomly. All teeth were extracted after local anesthesia and sockets were cleaned. Gelatamp colloidal silver gelatin sponge was implanted into socket in experimental group and nothing was implanted into alveolar socket in control group. The complication of teeth extraction was observed on 0.5 h, 2 d and 7 d after extraction. The incidence rate of complication was calculated.
RESULTSThe incidence rate of complication of teeth extraction in experimental group was 7.72%, which was lower than that of control group (24.43%). There was significant difference in the incidence rates of complication between experimental group and control group (P < 0.05). The incidence rate of bleeding, infection, pain, swelling and dry socket after teeth extraction in experimental group was lower than those of control group, and the difference between them was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe results demonstrate that Gelatamp colloidal silver gelatin sponge can prevent the occurrence of complication of teeth extraction, this can be used in clinic.

2.Status and Strategies for Sustainable Exploitation of Marine Bioresources

The status of marine bioresources and the marine eco-environment issues were summarized and discussed, and the strategies for the development of Chinese marine bioresources in the future were proposed. The degradation of marine eco-environment and unreasonable exploitation of the resources resulted in acute decline of Chinese marine bioresources. The feasible stratagies for the sustainable use of marine bioresources should be to intensify the basic research on marine bioresources science, to strengthen the protection of the marine environment and conservation of marine living resources, and to exploit and utilize marine bioresources scientifically and reasonably by using high-technology including marine biotechnology.
3.Research on stability of melittin in different solvent systems.

The stability of melittin in different solvents (water, deoxygenated water, physiological saline, PBS, 50% ethanol, ethanol, glycerol)was studied and the results showed that the stability of melittin is not influenced by light, temperature and pH in 50% ethanol, which melittin can be completed dissolved when compared with ethanol and glycerol, in such, 50% ethanol was chosen as solvent storage when measured content of melittin. Then the effect of different concentrations of PBS, the pH of PBS and rat skin ho- mogenates were tested, and the results showed that melittin was degraded rapidly at low concentration solution and low ionic strength. Increasing pH of PBS and rat skin homogenate can accelerate the degradation of melittin. These researches provide an experimental ba- sis for further study of melittin.

4.Clinical study on acute periapical periodontitis caused by overfilling.

OBJECTIVETo study the relation on overfilling with gutta-percha point or paste and acute periapical periodontitis.
METHODSCollected sixty cases of acute periapical periodontitis which had been filled with gutta-percha point and paste within 1 week, and took dental radiographs. The cases that dental radiographs showed only guttapercha point was overfilling were assigned to group A (34 cases), and the cases that dental radiographs showed only paste was overfilling were assigned to group B (26 cases). The cases that dental radiographs showed both gutta-percha point and paste were overfilling were excluded. Sixty cases were divided into light group and severe group according to clinical sign. Measured gutta-percha point length or paste areas over apex. Took out the ohturation material cornpletely, adjusted occlusion when necessary and changed root canal medicament every day until clinical sign disappeared completely. Recorded the time of clinical sign disappeared completely.
RESULTSIn group A, gutta-percha point length over apex averaged 1.01 mm on light cases, and 1.79 mm on severe cases. In group B, the paste areas over apex averaged 2.45 mm2 on light cases, and 8.26 mm2 on severe cases. Group A had 13 light cases and 21 severe cases, and group B had 18 light cases and 8 severe cases. In group A, the average time of clinical sign disappeared completely was 3.56 days, and in group B the average time was 6.19 days. The statistical test showed there were significant differences among these four couples.
CONCLUSIONThe more overfilling, the more severe clinical sign was. Clinical sign caused by gutta-percha point overfilling was more severe. The time of clinical sign which caused by gutta-percha point overfilling disappeared completely was shorter.

5.An experimental study of immune function effect of rats irradiated with the complex field cure instrument.

The complex field cure instrument is a new medical instrument with which an experiment was carried out. Rats were continuously irradiated by the complex field for 90 days, with a day's total dose of 285.9 M.T.G. while other rats weren't irradiated for control group. The animals were respectively killed at 7d, 14d, 30d, 60d and 90d, and their blood samples were taken for cell and humoral immune analysis. The results show that values of lymphocyte transform rate, soluble receptor (SIL-2R), total hemolytic complement levels (CH50) and immunoglobulin (A.G.) after irradiation are more than those of the control group having proved that the instrument may improve immune function of rats.

6.Inhibitory effect of resveratrol against enterovirus type 71 in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo observe the inhibitory effect of resveratrol against the cytopathogenicity of enterovirus type 71.
METHODSThe cytotoxicity of resveratrol on Vero cells was detected using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8). The antiviral activity of resveratrol in different stages of infection, with ribavirin as the control, was evaluated by determining the virus inhibition rate, medium effective concentration (IC(50)), and selection index (SI).
RESULTSResveratrol was nonpoisonous to Vero cells with an median toxic concentration (TC50) of 307.6 mmol/L. Resveratrol produced an obvious inhibitory effect against enterovirus type 71 only before the cell infection by the virus (IC(50)=20.2 mmol/L , SI=15.2), and once the cells were infected, resveratrol no longer had such antiviral effect.
CONCLUSIONSResveratrol may offer some protection against enterovirus type 71 in vitro.

7.Analysis of chemotherapeutic results and prognostic factors of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical characteristics of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), compare the efficacy of different induction regimens and analyze the prognostic factors.
METHODSData of 149 adult ALL patients hospitalized in our institute between June 1998 and December 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. The results were analyzed with the SPSS11.5 software.
RESULTS1) Out of 133 patients available immunophenotype data, 118 (88.7%) were B-ALL and 15 (11.3%) T-ALL. Cytogenetic analysis was performed in 105 patients, 40 cases (38.1%) of them had a normal karyotype and 65 (61.9%) chromosome aberrations. 2) 149 patients completed the VDCP, VDLP or VDCLP induction therapies (at least 4 weeks treatment for each), 140 (93.7%) of them achieved complete remission (CR) with the first course CR rates of 80.8%, 92.3% and 81.4% , respectively (P=0.618). CR rates in patients after the induction regimens with or without asparaginase were 95.5% versus 92.1% (P=0.566). With a median follow-up of 14.5 (1-75) months, the median disease free survival (DFS) was 12 (1-74) months and median overall survival (OS) 17.5 (1-97) months. DFS of the three regimen groups at 3 and 5 years were 18.5% and 14.8%, 24.7% and 9.9%, 39.5% and 39.5%, respectively (P=0.0066). 3) COX regression analysis showed that the age (over 40 years), white blood cell (WBC) count ( > 40 x 10(9)/L) , t(9;22) (q34;q11)-positive and less than 4 courses consolidation chemotherapy were the unfavorable prognostic factors.
CONCLUSIONSMost adult ALL patients are B-ALL and karyotype have more changed. More than 90% patients can achieve CR with induction regimens consisting of 4 or 5 drugs. Induction regimens containing L-asparaginase may not affect the CR rate, but can improve DFS and OS. Age and WBC at diagnosis, presence of t(9;22) (q34;q11) and the courses of post-remission treatment are important prognostic factors.

8.Early superselective angiography and transarterial embolization for massive bleeding after gastrectomy.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy of early superselective angiography and embolization in the diagnosis and treatment of massive bleeding after gastrectomy.
METHODSThe clinical data of 28 patients with massive bleeding after surgery from 1980 to 2001 were retrospectively analysed. All patients underwent emergency angiography and 27 of them were treated by transcatheter embolization.
RESULTSBleeding was controlled in 26 of the 28 patients (93%), recurrent bleeding occurred in 1, an recognized bleeding in 1, and abdominal pain in 1. There was no death.
CONCLUSIONSTransarterial embolization for massive bleeding after gastrectomy is safe and effective. It is suggested that early emergency angiography should be considered in all patients with massive gastrointestinal bleeding after gastrectomy.

9.Study of carvedilol on plaque stability in carotid atherosclerotic rabbits transfected by p53 gene.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of carvedilol on stabilizing atherosclerosis plaque.
METHODSForty five male Japanese white rabbits were divided randomly into 5 groups with 9 for each. One group was fed up with normal diet as blank control. In other four groups, the common carotid artery of rabbits fed up with high cholesterol diet were injured by balloon. Three groups of them were transfected by wild-type p53 gene 8 weeks later, and then two groups of them were treated with carvedilol (3 mgxkg(-1)xd(-1)) and metoprolol (6 mgxkg(-1)xd(-1)) respectively, high cholesterol diet should be continued for other 4 weeks. Serum lipid, hypersensitive C-reaction protein (hsCRP), oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxLDL), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) were measured in 0, 8, 12 weeks after experiment. The apoptosis rate of smooth muscle cell (SMC) in endomembrane and the local expression of p53, bcl-2, bax, alpha-actin were examined after experiment, and the carotid arteries were examined by light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
RESULTSThe typical carotid atherosclerotic plaques were observed in balloon-injured groups. The local expression rates of p53 in groups transfected by wild type p53 gene were higher obviously than them in other two groups (P < 0.01). Compared with the rabbits received simple transfection, the thickness of the fibrous cap in rabbits received carvedilol and metoprolol were all increased, but the change could be observed significantly in carvedilol group (P < 0.05). Compared with metoprolol, carvedilol could reduce the level of serum hsCRP, oxLDL, MDA, and increase the concentration of SOD and GSH-PX significantly (P < 0.05 or 0.01), but two medicines had no obvious influence to serum lipid. The apoptosis rate of SMC in endomembrane, the local expression of bax gene and bax/bcl-2 ratio were decreased, the positive expression rates of alpha-actin and bcl-2 were enhanced in carvedilol group (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSBoth carvedilol and metoprolol can improve the stability of the plaque, but carvedilol is superior. Its mechanisms may lie in that carvedilol still has function of anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, decreasing the apoptosis rate of SMC in addition to its function of blocking beta-receptor.

10.Intra-articular migration of transplanted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in rats with articular cartilage injury

BACKGROUND: The application of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the treatment of cartilage damage has become a hot spot of research. Further studies on the distribution of MSCs in the body after injection and on the underlying mechanism of action are needed. OBJECTIVE: To observe the migration of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) after injection into the region of osteochondral defect. METHODS: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into two groups (n=15 per group). In the control group, the femoral tochlear was exposed but an osteochondral defect was not made; and after the suture, PKH26-labeled BMSCs were directly injected into the articular cavity of rats. In the experimental group, a cartilage defect of 1 mm in diameter and 1 mm in depth was made in the rat femoral trochlea, and 5×106PKH26-labeled BMSCs were injected into the defect after operation. At 1, 3 and 7 days after injection, the femoral condyle was taken to make frozen sections followed by DAPI staining. The distribution of BMSCs was observed under laser scanning confocal microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: In the control group, PKH26-labeled BMSCs were not transferred to the subchondral bone. In the experimental group, BMSCs were detected in the subchondral bone area at 1, 3 days after injection of PKH26-BMSCs in the bone cartilage defect area, and the BMSCs were also found in the bone marrow cavity at 7 days after injection. In conclusion, BMSCs in the articular cavity cannot migrate into the subchondral bone and bone marrow cavity unless the cartilage of the femoral condyle is damaged.
