Journal of Environment and Health 2007;0(11):-
Objective To study the optimum component proportion of media and the best fermentation conditions for the flocculatnt-producing strain B5. Methods Through single factor experiment to seek the best carbon sources, nitrogen sources and inorganic salts. Furthermore, through orthogonal test to select the best conditions for producing flocculants by strain B5. Results The best carbon source, nitrogen source and inorganic salt were glucose, (NH4)2SO4 and CaCl2, the content of glucose was 2.0%, the initial pH value of medium was 7.0, the temperature was 30 ℃, agitation rate was 160 r/min and culture time was 24 hours in flakes, 50 ml liquids (250 ml triangular flask), the inoculation volume was 0.2 ml. The flocculants produced by strain B5 under the best fermentation conditions has been furnished for multifarious waste water, the flocculating activities were from 88.4% to 97.2% and reached to the highest on the waste water of dairy farming. Conclusion The flocculants produced by the strain B5 is applicable to the waste water treatment.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2006;0(06):-
Many kinds of small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) are able to prevent protein aggregation in stress, which show the ATP independent chaperone-like activity. The smallest protein HSP12.1 in sHSP family of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans exhibits chaperone-like activities in vitro. It prevents protein aggregation in a certain extent when use insulin, ADH and lysozyme as the substrates, though it is not as efficient as the typical chaperones (such as HSP16.1 in C. elegans). By contrast, the other three sHSP12s (HSP12.2, HSP12.3 and HSP12.6), which have similar molecular masses and primary structure, appear devoid of in vitro chaperone-like activities. In addition, overexpressing HSP12.1 enhances cell thermotolerance of Escherichia coli. The survival rate of the HSP12.1 overexpressed cells is 4-fold higher than the control, yet whether it does the same function in C. elegans is still unknown. Results indicate that C-terminal region is not necessary for the chaperone-like activity of sHSPs, for HSP12.1 terminates a short C-terminal tail. N-terminal domain may play a relatively important role in the exhibition of chaperone-like activities, while ?-crystalline domain may also involve in this function.

Objective To establish a mice model of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity and to investigate the effect of cisplatin on the expression of caspase-3 in mouse cochlea. Methods Totally 69 Kunming mice were randomly divided into control group, cisplatin 2.5mg/(kg?d) group, cisplatin 3.5mg/(kg?d) group and cisplatin 4.5mg/(kg?d)group.Mice were injected intraperitoneally for 5 days.Auditory brainstem response(ABR) was measured to observe the change of hearing.Envision method of immunohistochemistry was applied to detect the expression of caspase-3 in cochlea. Results The weight and hearing of mice in different dose cisplatin groups were declined significantly as compared with those in control group(P

Objective To explore the regularity and characteristics of violence-related injury. Method Data from the injury surveillance in the Emergency Medicine department of Nan-shan hospital was used in this study. Data of all injured patients, who admitied to the emergency department between 1 January 2004 to 31 November 2005, was analysed. Results During the study period, 25376 injured patients were collected and 12280 (48.4%) were violence-related injury patients. The male to female ratio was 2.4: 1. Most of patients were aged 15~44 years old, accouting for 79.9%. The majority of the violence-related patients were wonters, accounting for 59%, most injuries were open wounds and occurred in working places, injuries occurred most during 13 pm to 18 pm. Conclusions Analysis of data from the violence injury surveillance in emergency department can be an aid for the depiction of the overall severe injury profile in area and, in this way, it will be essential for the implementation of properly preventive and controlling measures, despite some limitation. It is urgent to explore and develop an violence injury surveillance system to cope China's milieu.

A total of 203 hypertensive patients with established health files received standard disease management for 1 year. We found that the patients who underwent grade 2 or 3 management showed statistically significant difference in exercise, salt and oil restriction, body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio, blood pressure, and blood-lipid from baseline (all P < 0.05). Hypertension awareness, behavior improvement, and disease control had statistically significant difference from baseline in all the patients (P < 0.05 or P < 0.001). After one year's intervention, the patient number in each grade was largely changed. Our study suggests that hierarchical hypertension management might be practical and effective in communities.

Tumor is a system-biology illness.Treatment of this intractable disease by any single medicine has not been realistic. In this review, we analyze the anti-tumor network of Tumor Necrosis Factor-related Apoptosis-indu-cing Ligand ( TRAIL ) by a system-biology technology and try to providecin individualized treatment strategy for TRAIL based therapy .

Objective To investigate the application value of spiral CT spinal cord and intervertebral disk 3D recontruction in vertebra trauma. Methods 78 patients with vertebra trauma were examined by CT axial, the primal date of each were retrospectively inserted and reconstructed, all the cases use 3D,SSD and sagittal MPR, compared with routine 2DCT.Results Spinal cord was normal in 23 cases.Spinal cord was pressed in 39 cases.Spinal cord was transected in 16 cases.Intervertebral disk was damaged in 38 cases. Conclusion Spiral CT can do spinal cord and intervertebral disk 3D reconstruction , it can show vertebra trauma and display intervertebral disk damage intuitionistically, which has instruction in making reasonable cure project and judging cure effect.

Objective To observe the effect of healthy education on BMD and the risk of bone fracture in pa- tients with primary osteoporosis. Methods 628 patients with primary osteoporosis were randomly divided into two groups under the same conditions, and healthy education were conducted in treated group but were not conducted in control group. Two years later,BMD and the rates of bone fractures were collected and analysed. Results Compared with control groups, the bone loss was significantly lower at the feroral neck,Ward's triangle and the great trochanter, and the risk of bone fractures was remarkably reduced in treated group(P

Objective To study the apoptotic activity of hydroxycamptothecin (HCFT) against human gastric carcinoma and its mechanism of action. Methods The apoptotic activity of HCPT against gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cells was detected by MTT assay. The apoptosis occurrence was determined by Annexin V/PI staining and flow cytometry analysis. The mRNA expression of Bmi-1 was detected by real-time PCR analysis.Western blot analysis was used to detect the protein expression of Bmi-1.Results The IC50 values of HCPT against gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cells was (4.87 ± 0.35) μ mol/L.After treatment with 0,5,10,20 μ mol/L HCPT for 48 h,the percent of apoptosis was elevated from (1.62 ± 0.37)% to (21.45 ±4.54)%,(36.67 ±5.38)%,(54.26 ±7.14)% and the 2-△Ct values of Bmi-1 mRNA was decreased from 0.614 ±0.022 to 0.445 ±0.018,0.376 ±0.012,0.215 ±0.010,there had significant difference among the different treatment (P < 0.01).Treated with 0,5,10,20 μ mol/L HCPT for 48 h,the protein expression of Bmi-1 was down regulated by HCPT treatment in a dose-dependent manner by Western blot analysis. Conclusion HCPT shows effective activity to induce apoptosis in gastric carcinoma cells, which is mainly related to the down regulation of Bmi-1.
