Objective To assess the diagnostic value of Logistic model in differentiating between malignant and benign ovarian lesions. Methods Thirty-five indexes of clinical and ultrasound data were recorded in 601 ovarian lesions confirmed by surgical pathology. The Logistic model was developed on a training set( n - 400) and tested on a test set( n = 201). Results Variable selection resulted in a set of 10 variables for the models: personal history of ovarian cancer, maximal diameter of the lesion, maximal diameter of the solid component, multilocular-solid tumor, solid tumor, ascites, flow within papillation, irregular walls, very strong intratumoral blood flow (i. e. color score 4) and acoustic shadows. Test set area under the receiver-operating characteristics curve was 0.963 with a sensitivity 93.9% and a specificity 93. 1 %. Conclusions Logistic model can accurately separate malignant from benign ovarian masses.

Objective To study the changes of life span and pathology in superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1)-G93A mice after intracardiac transplantation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).Methods hMSCs were isolated from bone marrow cells obtained from healthy donors and cultured. The purity and morphology were assessed by flow cytometry (FCM).hMSCs (3×10~6) resuspended in 0.2 ml DMEM was injected into the heart of 8 week-old SOD1-G93A mice.In non-transplantion control SOD1-G93A mice, only DMEM was injected. The mice were evaluated for signs of motor deficit with 4-point scoring system previously described by Weydt et al.The age of onset and life span in mice were assessed. The pathological change including number of motor neurons was investigated by Nissl staining.Immunofluorescence staining with specific human nuclear antibody was used to confirm the transplant of hMSCs in mice. Results The onset symptoms in untreated SOD1-G93A mice appeared at (156.56±3.60) days of age and the average life span was (188.32±3.51) days.hMSCs transplantation delayed the onset of ALS type symptoms about 16 days (x~2=10.888, P=0.001) and prolonged the life span about 14 days compared to the untreated SOD1-G93A littermates((202.19±4.09) days vs (188.32±3.51) days, x~2=3.917, P=0.04).The loss of motor neurons in untreated mice was earlier and more severe than in hMSCs transplanted mice.At 20 weeks, the number of motor neurons in transplanted mice was significantly higher than those in untreated mice.Human specific nuclear antigen in brain and spinal cord was detected in transplanted SOD1-G93A mice. Conclusion hMSCs can be implanted for a long-term into central nervous system by intracardiac transplantation and the transplantation can prolong life span, and delay the onset of the disease and motor neuron loss in SOD1-G93A mice.

Journal of Leukemia & Lymphoma 2012;21(5):277-281
ObjectiveTo evaluate the application of 18fluoro-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) to the staging and predicting outcome in patients with lymphoma. Methods 41 patients with newly diagnosed lymphoma(median age 57 years)were explored with FDG-PET prior to and after 4 cycles of chemotherapy. With a median follow-up of 30 months (range 10-68 months),the value of FDG-PET to staging and predicting clinical outcome was assessed. Results The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of nodal and extranodal lesions was 9.7±6.9 and 8.4±6.8 respectively prior to treatment. There were significant difference (P<0.05) in aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma,no significant difference(P>0.05)in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and Hodgkin's lymphoma(HL), B-cell neoplasms and T-cell neoplasms, germinal center B-cell-like DLBCL and activated B-cell-like DLBCL. In 41 patients, 22 patients (54 %)were detected extranodal focus by FDG-PET before chemotherapy. FDG-PET imaging upstaged in 6(15%)of initial lymphoma patients. There were 15 patients (37 %) in stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ and 26 patients(63 %)in stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ by FDC-PET scan.1 patient (7 %) in stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ,6 patient (23 %) in stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ died of disease progression during follow-up.After 4 cycles of chemotherapy, the FDG-PET was negative in 41%(17/41),positive in 59 %(24/41) respectively.1 patient(6 %)died of disease relapse among 17 patients who were FDG-PET negative, 6 patient (25 %)died of disease progression among 24 patients who were FDG-PET positive during follow-up. Conclusion FDG-PET scanning plays an important role in the pretreatment staging and prediction of the prognosis after 4 cycles of chemotherapy in patients with lymphoma. Thus it may offer the potential for change in treatment paradigms.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of dobutamine?stressed cardiac morphing ( CM) MPI ( CMMPI) for coronary artery disease ( CAD) in middle?aged patients. Methods A total of 97 middle?aged patients (52 males, 45 females, age 40-65 (52.98±7.74) years) from March 2011 to Febru?ary 2015 with chest distress, cardiopalmus and chest pain symptoms ( suspected CAD) were retrospectively studied. Informed consents were signed by patients before examination. All patients underwent one?day dobu?tamine?stressed/rest CMMPI and CAG within one month. The diagnostic value of CMMPI was assessed and compared with CAG. Results CMMPI revealed 42 abnormal cases and 9 normal cases in 51 cases with cor?onary artery stenosis by CAG. CMMPI found 11 abnormal cases and 35 normal cases in 46 cases with normal coronary artery by CAG. In comparison with CAG, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of CMMPI were 82.35%(42/51), 76.09%(35/46), 79.38%(77/97), 79.25%(42/53)and 79.55%(35/44) respectively. The side effect was slight and transient with an inci?dence of 82.47%(80/97). Conclusion The dobutamine?stressed CMMPI has an important value for the diagnosis of CAD and the assessment of myocardial damage in middle?aged patients.
