BACKGROUND:Many studies have shown that Chinese medicineFuming granules have certain curative effects on optic nerve injury, but a large number of experimental studies are stil needed to verify. OBJECTIVE:To verify the effect of Chinese medicineFuming granules on optic nerve injury by the method of stress relaxation experiments. METHODS: The animal models of optic nerve injury were established by the clamping method. Rats were intervened withFuming granules by intragastric administration. Model group and normal control group were set for comparison. After 30 days of successive administration, optic nerve injury received stress relaxation experiments in each group, and histomorphology was observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In the normal control group, the optic nerve nuclei distributed uniformly without edema, augmentation or inflammatory cels, and the axon and other contents had a clear structure. In the model group, the optic nerve fiber arranged sparsely, presented unclear structure, and axon, karyorrhexis and the other contents changed. In theFuming granule group, the transect of optic nerve which arranged densely had large area, and most of the axon had a normal structure. The decreases in stress at 7 200 s and stress relaxation were as folows: normal control group > fuming granule group > model group (P < 0.05). Results confirmed that Chinese medicineFuming granule accelerates the recovery of axoplasm of injured optic nerve, restores the morphology of axons, and contributes to the recovery of injured optic nerve.

Objective To investigate the change in the function of the motor nerve fibers of the sciatic nerve of rat following injection of different neurolytic drugs. Methods Thirty-five SD rats weighing 350-380 g were randomly divided into 7 groups ( n = 5 each): group C received normal saline; group Ad adriamycin 5 mg/ml;group Aa anhydrous alcohol; group Pg1 8% phenol-glycerol; group Pg2 10% phenol-glycerol; group Pg3 12% phenol-glycerol and group Ci cidomycin 4000 U/ml. 0.2 ml of the different neurolytic drugs was injected at the points where the branches of the sciatic nerve entering semi-membranous and adductor magnus muscles. The action potential and conduction velocity of motor and sensory nerve fibers were measured at 21 d after injection. Results The conduction velocity of sensory nerve fibers was 0 in each group. The conduction velocity and action potential of the motor nerve fibers were significantly decreased in group Ad, Aa, Pg1, Pg2, Pg3 and Ci as compared with group C (the control group). The action potential and the conduction velocity were significantly higher in group Ad than in other neurolytic drug groups. The potential and the conduction velocity were the lowest in group Aa and Pg3.The conduction velocity in group Pg1, Pg2, Ci was comparable. Conclusion 5% adriamycin seems to be a better neurolytic drug with less interference with function of motor never fibers.

BACKGROUND: There are no effective treatments for spinal cord injury. Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) has achieved great progress in repairing spinal cord injury. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of OECs transplantation on pathological and ultrastructural alterations of spinal cord, and the role in spinal cord injury developing.METHODS: A total of 60 SD rats were randomly divided into blank, model, transplantation and DF12 groups, with 15 animals in each group. The entire vertebral plate of T_(10), and partial vertebral plate of T_9 and T_(11) of blank group were cut open, and gelatin sponge was used for hemostasis. In the model group, the spinal cord was excised. In the transplantation and DF12 groups, OECs and DF12 culture solution were injected following spinal cord excision. The incision was sutured. Two rats from each group were anesthetized 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, 42, and 56 days following injury, and injured areas were observed by light microscopy and electron microscopy. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Following spinal cord injury, pathological and ultrastructural changes occurred, such as hemorrhage, edema, degeneration, necrosis, cavitation, gliacyte proliferation and nerve fiber regeneration. OECs transplantation attenuated neuronal and nerve fiber necrosis, relieved degree of pathological reaction, protected injured neurons, prevented gliacyte proliferation and increased nerve fiber regeneration. Results show that OECs transplantation ameliorated pathological reactions and promoted spinal cord injury repair.

Objective To investigate the effects of genistein(GEN) on the expression of collagen I and transforming growth factor-?1(TGF-?1 ) of osteoblast.Method The secondary generation of skull osteoblast of newborn SD rat was incubated with GEN.The cells were divided into six groups:control group, different dose of GEN(10-8,10-7,10-6,10-5mol/L,respectively) groups and E2 group( 10-10mol/L).MTT(OD),the contents of cell protein, the activity of alkaline phosphatase(ALP),the expression of collagen I and the content of TGF-?1 were detected. Results After 48h and 72h,the MTT(OD) of all GEN group and E2 group were significantly higher than those in control group. The MTT(OD) of control group and 10-8,10-7,10-6mol/L GEN groups in 72h were significantly higher than those in 48 h.The protein of 10-5,10-6 mol/L GEN group and E2 group were significantly higher than those in control group. The ALP activity of all GEN groups and E2 group were significantly higher than those in control group. The level of above indices were correlated with the dose of GEN.The expression of collagen I and the content of TGF-?1 in 10-7,10-6,10-5mol/L GEN group and E2 groups were higher than those in control group. They werecorrelated with the dose of GEN and TGF-?1.Conclusion GEN could stimulate proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast, and enhance the expression of collagen I and content of TGF?-1.Compared with E2,,there were similar effects with the higher dosage of GEN.

Objective To analyze the risk factors on type 2 diabetic with foot ulcer. Methods 69diabetic foot patients were involved in the study.According to ulcer, patients were divided into the ulcer group(n=25)and the no-ulcer group (n=44).FBG,2h PBG,HbA1c,TC,TG,HDL,LDL,BUN,Cr.CRP were examined.T-test and chi-square test were used to assess the risk factors on diabetic foot patients with clure. Results Compared with the no-ulce group, the ulcer grou were associated with HDL and CRP.Chi-square-test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the groups with ulcer and no-ulcer grou on incidence of hypertension and ulcer in diabetic foot patients(P
