Objective To explore the CT findings of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the tracheobronchial tree and improve the diagnostic accuracy. Methods The CT images, histopathological and clinical data in 24 patients with pathologically proved MEC of the tracheobroncbial tree were retrospectively analyzed. Results The clinical symptoms included cough, sputum, fever, wheezing, chest pain and hemoptysis. The patient was proved to be low-grade (n=19) and high-grade (n=5) MEC histopathologically. One lesion was located in trachea, 6 in main bronchus, 12 in lobar bronchus and 5 in segmental, subsegmental and distal bronchus. The tumor presented as no-invasive endotracheobronchial well-defined round-like nodule (n=13, locating in lobar and higher bronchus) and columnar sharp (n=3, locating in main bronchus), or intra-and-extraluminal well-defined round-like nodule or mass (n=6, locating in lobar and lower bronchus) and irregular mass with invasive pattern (n=2, high-grade type). The density of lesion was similar to the muscule and the calcification within lesion was showed in 4 patients on non-enhanced CT. The lesion had marked enhancement in 17 patients on enhanced CT. Obstructive changes were found in 20 patients. Conclusion MEC of the tracheobronchial tree is usually low-grade malignancy and locates in main and lobar bronchus with no-invasive well-defined airway mass, marked enhancement and calcification on CT.

Conclusions The 3-year survival rate was dramatically increased with combined therapy mainly by cisplatin, the dose of 60～80mg is tolerant for the elderly aged above seventy years, and perioperation complications can be cured.

Objective： The authors used the serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) method to analyze transcripts present in the immortalized BEP2D cells and the malignant transformed BEP2D cells. Methods： As a step toward understanding the complex gene expression differences between the immortalized BEP2D cells and the malignant transformed BEP2D cells induced by α  particle,SAGE method was introduced into this experiment. Technological methods included total RNA extraction, mRNA isolation, full length of dscDNA synthesis, PCR, transformation and sequencing. SAGE SoftWare was used to analyze tag sequences and compare the abundance of tags between two SAGE libraries. Results： Two independent SAGE libraries were constructed from the immortalized BEP2D cells and the malignant transformed BEP2D cells induced by 1.5 Gy α  particles. A total of 2 331 SAGE tags were identified for the sequences, representing 252 unique transcripts. Though up to now the obtained information is limited, comparison of the two SAGE libraries indicated a remarkable similarity in the expression profiles. Of the 252 transcripts detected, 12 transcripts (4.8％ ) matched no reliable known genes in UniGene library. Combination of Northern blot hybridization, the expression level of TGF β induced Smad7 gene in the malignant transformed cells was higher than that in the immortalized cells. Conversely, Chemokine receptor CCR11 gene was expressed at lower levels in the malignant transformation cells. Conclusion： (1) Out of results given by SAGE,the tendency of the abundance of gene expression and the gene expression differentiation between two cell lines were described. (2) The expression level of TGF β induced Smad7 gene in the malignant transformed BEP2D cells was higher than that in the immortalized cells and chemokine receptor CCR11 gene was expressed at lower levels in the malignant transformed BEP2D cells. (3)SAGE was a powerful method in a quantitative and simultaneous analysis of a large number of transcripts in any particular cell system, especially in defining functions of known genes.

Cell-free DNA, also referred to as extracellular DNA, has been detected in many kinds of human body fluids, including blood plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, amniotic fluid, and seminal plasma. At present, cell-free DNA has been reported widely as promising noninvasive biomarkers for disease diagnosis and research. Recent years have witnessed some progress in the studies of the general characteristics of cell-free DNA, such as its concentration, extent of molecular weight, origin and existing forms, as well as in its clinical application. Cell-free seminal DNA has been proposed as promising noninvasive biomarkers for the studies and diagnosis of male idiopathic infertility, and the early diagnosis, treatment evaluation and outcome prediction of testicular germ cell tumors and prostatic cancer. This review summarizes the general characteristics and biological functions of cell-free DNA, and outlines the research status and application perspective of cell-free seminal DNA.
