OBJECTIVETo investigate the value of application of mandibular outer cortex as bone graft by comparing its bone absorption with cranial outer cortex.
METHODS8 minitype grown-up pigs at the age of 8 - 12 months underwent surgery of taking out the same size (2.5 cm x 1.0 cm) of outer cortex from mandible and craninium. The volume of the outer cortex was measured by volume-displacement method. Then the outer cortex of mandible and cranium were onlay grafted to the each side of the pig snout, respectively. 12 weeks later, 2 pigs were randomly selected for histological examination. The other 6 pigs were killed 24 weeks after surgery for measurement of the bone graft volume and histologic examination.
RESULTSThe bone graft absorption rate was (41 +/- 5)% for mandibular outer cortex and (46 +/- 12)% for cranial outer cortex, showing no significant difference between them (P = 0.51). The histologic examination results also had no marked difference in the bony healing and reforming between the two graft.
CONCLUSIONSMandibular outer cortex is a good donor site for onlay bone graft in craniofacial region.

OBJECTIVETo illustrate the morphological changes of mandible after angle-splitting ostectomy.
METHODSFrom January 2006 to April 2008, 10 cases had undergone mandibular angle-splitting ostectomy to reduce the width of the lower face. For each patient, CT datum of mandible at three stages (preoperative, immediate postoperative, 6 months postoperative) were collected. By the application software of reverse engineering (Surfacer V9) and true-up and dissection techniques based on three-dimensional spiral computed tomography (3D-CT), operative efficacy and bone regeneration at the operation area of angle-splitting ostectomy were evaluated 6 months postoperative.
RESULTS1) Concavity could be seen at the angle-splitting ostectomy area 6 months postoperative, especially at the mandibular external oblique line region. Average cup depth was (3.64 +/- 1.67) mm by contrasted to preoperative. Diminution of bone volume was 55% +/- 9% for the local operative area 6 months postoperative. 2) Bone regeneration could be seen at the area that mandibular outer cortex had been removed. Compared with immediate postoperative, ratio of neoformative bone was 84.6% +/- 7.3% 6 months postoperative. The main region of bone regeneration was mandibular angle.
CONCLUSIONMandibular angle-splitting ostectomy is an effective technique for reducing the width of the lower face. Masseter muscular movement should be restricted postoperative to prevent hyperostosis at the angle area.

OBJECTIVESTo test the serum sexual hormone and sperm cytology in aspermia patients.
METHODSRadioimmunoassay (RIA) and Wright-Giemsa stain were used to detect serum sexual hormone and sperm cytology in 45 aspermia patients.
RESULTSAmong the 45 patients, spermatogenetic cells were detected in 16 patients(35.6%). The level of serum testerone were decreased in 16 patients, and FSH, LH were increased in 13 cases as well as that of PRL in 4 cases.
CONCLUSIONSThese results suggested that the testis function was demaged, the ratio of T/LH could further reflect the function of Leydig cells, the detection of PRL were significant only in diagnosis of aspermia induced by hypermia. It is an important index in identifying obstructive and non-obstructive aspermia and has important significance in estimating the extention of testis demage and commanding the clinical treatment of serum hormone detection and sperm cell analysis.

OBJECTIVETo explore the curative effect of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with tendon graft enveloped by preserved remnants.
METHODSFrom June 2009 to June 2011,76 patients with ACL injury were treated, and the ACL was reconstructed with tendon graft enveloped by preserved remnants. There were 59 males and 17 females, aged 15 to 46 years with an average of 29 years. The causes of injuries included sports in 32 cases, training in 20 cases, traffic accidents in 16 cases, and other reasons in 8 cases. The average disease duration was 3 weeks (2 to 5 weeks). The results of Lachman test was positive in 72 cases and anterior drawer test were positive in 76 cases. The preoperative IKDC score was 45.9 +/- 3.6. The preoperative Lysholm knee score was 54.3 +/- 4.5.
RESULTSAll incisions got an one stage healing, and no early complications occurred. Sixty-nine cases were followed up, and the duration ranged from 17 to 31 months (mean, 23 months). The result of Lachman test was negative at the latest follow-up. At the latest follow-up, the degree of IKDC was A in 36 cases, B in 30 cases, C in 3 cases, no one in degree D. The postoperative IKDC score was 91.5 +/- 3.4, showing significant difference compared with preoperative score. The postoperative Lysholm score was 92.4 +/- 3.8, showing a significant difference compared with preoperative score.
CONCLUSIONThe clinical effect of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with tendon graft enveloped by preserved remnants is satisfactory.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate clinical effects of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with preservation of the remnant bundle.
METHODSFrom January 2002 to December 2009, 57 patients with ACL partial rupture were treated with preservation of the remnant bundle. There were 39 males and 18 females, with an average age of 28.5 years old (ranged, 16 to 49 years old). Thirty-three patients had injuries in the left knees, and 24 patients had injuries in the right knees. Forty patients had injuries caused by sports, 7 patients had injuries caused by traffic accidents and 10 patients had injuries caused by daily sprain. The anterior drawer test showed positive results in 23 patients, weakly positive results in 6 cases; Lachman test showed positive results in 19 patients, and weakly positive in 4 patients. Both anterior drawer test and Lachman test showed positive results in 5 patients; and valgus stress test (medial) showed positive results in 24 patients. The mean value of Rolimeter measurement was 8.7 mm, (ranged, 7.5 to 11.5 mm). The mean International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score was 70.0 +/- 7.5 and the Lysholm score was 68.0 +/- 6.3. The duration from injury to surgery was 1 week to 12 months, with an average of 3.1 months.
RESULTSThere were 32 patients treated with anteromedial bundle reconstruction and 25 patients treated with poterolateral bundle reconstruction. Fifty-seven patients were followed up, and the mean follow-up time was 22.5 months (ranged, 13 to 37 months). The anterior drawer test and Lachman test were all negative at 1 month post-operation. At the end of the follow-up, the range of motion of all the knees was 120 to 130 degree. There were 54 patients with negative results of anterior drawer test and Lachman test, 1 with weakly positive result of anterior drawer test and 2 with weakly positive results of Lachman test. The measurements of Rolimeter showed excellent stability of the knee. The mean IKDC score was 92.0 +/- 4.9 and the mean Lysholm score was 91.0 +/- 3.7, which all improved compared to preoperative scores.
CONCLUSIONArthroscopic reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament with preservation of the remnant bundle has satisfactory effects on the knee stability, which could increase the angiogenesis and collagen of the ACL and improve the proprioception of the knee.
