Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) in the treatment of condyloma acuminatum. Methods Thirty-six cases of condyloma acuminatum were treated with ALA-PDT. Results After the treatment, 33 (91.67%) patients were cured, 35 (97.22%) improved. Relapse occurred in 3 (8.33%) patients. Side effects were noted in 2 (5.56%) patients. Conclusions ALA-PDT is a relatively simple, effective and safe treatment with a lower recurrence rate for condyloma acuminatum, especially for small skin lesions or lesions at specific area. However, the high expense required for multiple treatments with ALA-PDT may restrict its application.

OBJECTIVETo investigate clinical effect and safety of bone-setting manipulation in treating isolated systolic hypertension combined with cervical spondylosis.
METHODSFrom January 2012 to January 2015, 320 patients suffered from isolated systolic hypertension combined with cervical spondylosis were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. In treatment group, there were 160 patients including 84 males and 76 females with an average age of (39.82 ± 10.33) years old, average blood pressure was (149.61 ± 10.75)/(81.01± 8.25) mmHg, NPQ score was 24.61 ± 8.14; treated with flexion top spin and lock bone-setting manipulation of cervical spine, once every two days for 20 days. While in control group, there were 160 patients including 90 males and 70 females with an average age of(41.37 ± 9.42) years old, average blood pressure was (151.48 ± 11.32)/ (79.65 ± 9.32) mmHg, NPQ score was 25.78 ± 9.53; treated with manipulation of reposition cervical spine by rotation, once every two days for 20 days. Blood pressure and NPQ score were tested and compared for evaluating clinical effects.
RESULTSBefore and after a period treatment, systolic pressure in treatment group was (149.61 ± 10.75) mmHg and (129.67 ± 12.26) mmHg; (151.48 ± 11.32) mmHg and (132.02 ± 11.73) mmHg in control group. After treatment, systolic pressure in both two groups was obviously decreased, and treatment group was better than control group. Before and after a period treatment, diastolic pressure in treatment group was (80.01 ± 8.25) mmHg and (78.15 ± 10.34) mmHg, (79.65 ± 9.32) mmHg and (76.89 ± 9.79) mmHg in control group, and there was no significant difference between two groups. NPQ score in treatment group was 24.61 ± 8.14 before treatment, 12.46 ± 7.94 after treatment, while in control group was 25.78 ± 9.53, 14.17 ± 8.86; NPQ score of the two groups after treatment was better than before treatment, while there was no obviously significance between two groups after treatment. The whole clinical effect in treatment group was better than control group.
CONCLUSIONBone-setting manipulation for isolated systolic hypertension combined with cervical spondylosis at early stage could receive good clinical result, and flexion top spin and lock bone-setting manipulation of cervical spine was better and safety than manipulation of reposition cervical spine by rotation.

Objective To investigate clinical features and therapeutic protocols of vulvovaginal-gingival syndrome(VVGS). Methods Clinical data were collected from 11 female patients with VVGS and analyzed. Results Among the 11 patients, the mean and median ages at a definite diagnosis of VVGS were both 46 years, and the average disease duration was 4 years. Painful erosive erythema was found on the vaginal vestibule in 7 patients, on the gingiva in 10, as well as on the bilateral buccal mucosa in 5. Additionally, 8 and 4 patients reported dyspareunia and vaginal hemorrhage, respectively. Seven patients were treated with low-dose oral methylprednisolone combined with hydroxychloroquine or colchicine, and the other 4 were treated with oral hydroxychloroquine alone. Furthermore, all of the 11 patients applied topical tacrolimus 0.1%ointment. Finally, 8 patients were cured or markedly improved. No obvious adverse reactions were observed in any of the patients. Conclusions VVGS mostly occurs in middle-aged women, with the vaginal vestibule and gingiva as predilection sites of painful erythema and dyspareunia as common symptoms. Patients have good responses to methylprednisolone combined with hydroxychloroquine, and hydroxychloroquine alone also shows good efficacy in patients with mild VVGS. Tacrolimus 0.1%ointment can be one of drugs for topical maintenance treatment of VVGS.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide- enhanced(USPIO)-enhanced MR imaging for monitoring synovitis of antigen-induced arthritis in rabbit model and explore the optimal MR imaging sequences. Methods Nine female white rabbits with antigen(0.5 ml mBSA,2 mg/ml)induced arthritis of the right knees were used in the study. The left knees of these rabbits and both knees of another 3 rabbits served as the control.Nine to 28 days(mean 21.3 d)after successful model induction, all knees were imaged before and 24 h after intravenously injection of USPIO (0.3 ml/kg),among which 2 rabbits were also imaged at 48 and 72 h after administration of USPIO respectively. The MR protocol included spin-echo(SE) T_1WI,fast spin-echo(FSE)T_2WI,gradient echo (GRE)T_2~* WI and short tau inversion recovery(STIR).Images were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively based on signal characteristics and patterns of the synovium.Paired t-test was used for the analysis of the signal intensity of inflammatory synovial membrane before and 24 h after injection of USPIO. MR findings were correlated with histopathology. Results Arthritis was successfully induced in all 9 right knees with intraarticular injection of mBSA.Pathological examination revealed hyperplasia of synovium with infiltration of USPIO-loaded-macrophages.MR depicted synovial thickening(thickness 2.07?0.97 mm) and joint effusion.Synovium and joint fluid appeared as slightly hypo- or iso-intense on T_1 WI and hyper- intense on T_2 WI or T_2~* WI.Twenty four hours after USPIO injection, significant T_1 enhancement(ASNR 41.91%?27.94%),negative T_2 and T_2~* enhancement(△SNR -34.92%?11.77% and -57.24%? 16.05%)were demonstrated in the region of synovial inflammation respectively. The signal at 48 h and 72 h changed less than that at hour 24.No signs of arthritis occurred in all left knees and in all knees of the artificial model group. Conclusion Iron oxide phagocytized into macrophages can be a root cause resulted in signal change on USPIO-enhanced MR images. The gradient echo sequence should be the optimal sequence to be used in USPIO-enhanced MR imaging in antigen-induced arthritis.

Objective To prepare recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) sustained-release microspheres and evaluate their morphology, rhEGF releasing activities and cell proliferation activity in vitro and compare difference of rhEGF sustained-release microspheres and rhEGF in facilitaring ulcer healing in diabetic rats. Methods (1) rhEGF sustained-release microspheres were prepared by the modified double emulsion method. Morphology of the microspheres was detected by transmission electron microscope and size distribution measured by laser granularity meter/Zeta electric potential meter. ELISA assays were applied to determine rhEGF releasing. (2)Proliferation of mouse fibroblasts was analyzed by MTr method. (3) Diabetic rat models were prepared and divided into four groups, ie, rhEGF sustained-release mierospheres group (Group A), rhEGF stock solution group (Group B), blank sustainedrelease mierospheres group (Group C) and PBS meustruum control group (Group D), which were given drug once a day. The wound healing rate was calculated by taking photographs at days 3,7,14 and 21. Skin specimens from the wound edge were harvested partially for observation of hydroxyproline (HYP) contents. Immunohistochemistry was employed to detect integrin 131 and keratin-19 and measure their positive staining area ratio. Results (1) The particle diameter of rhEGF sustained-release microspheres was 193.5 nm, with relative uniform particle diameter distribution. There showed no conglutination among rhEGF susrained-release microspheres, with good dispersibility. Releasing drug lasted for 24 hours and accorded with Higuchi release kinetic model. (2) Different concentrations of rhEGF sustained-release microspheres could promote the proliferation of mouse fibroblast, especially the concentration of 10 μg/L (P <0.05, compared with the control). (3) From the 7th day after treatment, Group A had the fastest wound healing rate, with statistical difference compared with other three groups (P < 0.05). Group A had higher HYP contents and positive area ratio of integrin β1 and keratin-19 than Group B. Conclusions rhEGF sustained-release microspheres prepared by the modified double emulsion method have uniform particle size and can last release for 24 hours. Compared with rhEGF stock solution, rhEGF sustained-release microspheres have faster and better ulcer healing and higher healing quality in diabetic rats.
