Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1999;17(5):770-773
We report a diabetic woman who developed paroxysmal hemichorea during an episode of non-ketotic hyper-glycemia. A MRI showed a high signal intensity on T1-weighted images and a low signal intensity on T2-weighted images in the contralateral putamen. SPECT on the 30th day after the onset revealed an increased blood flow in the contralateral striatum. Although these abnormalities in the left putamen are considered to be the cause of her involuntary movement, the exact pathophysiological mechanisms of these abnormalities are not yet clear and further investigations are needed.

3.Clinical Study of Augmentin in G-U Tract Infection.
Korean Journal of Urology 1986;27(5):654-658
Augmentin is a formulation of amoxycillin trihydrate and potassium clavulanate, a fused beta-lactam molecule produced by the fermentation of straptomyces clavuligerus. Most clinically important resistance is due to the production by bacteria of antibiotic destroying enzymes. In the case of penicillins and cephalospolins these enzymes are termed beta-lactamse as they destroy the beta-lactam ring of these antibiotics completely inactivating them. The presence of clavulanic acid extends the spectrum of amoxycillin to include beta-lactamse producing strains of common pathogens such as Staphylococcus, H influenza, E. coli, Neisseria spp, Proteus spp, Salmonella and Shigella. On clinical study of Augmenting in the field of Genitourinary tract infection cases. We selected randomly 30 patients, 20 males and 10 females, age from 21 to 71, in the period from October, 1985 to February, 1986. Among the total 30 patients, 15 were uncomplicated urinary tract infection and 15 were complicated urinary tract infection. Of the 15 patients with uncomplicated urinary tract infection, 14 patients had not bacteriuria after therapy and 1 patient was not changed. The clinical efficacy rate was 93.4%. Of the 4 patients with persistent infection, 2 patients had resistant P. aeruginosa, and 2 patients had S marcescens persistantly. The clinical efficacy rate was 73.4%. In 2 cases, mild diarrhea was developed, but medication was not stopped. The liver and renal function were normal range before and after treatment.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1993;27(2):108-114
DNA aneuploid cells are poorly characterized in both biochemical and morphological terms. This study was performed to see the relationship between DNA ploidy and morphometric and photometric nuclear features. DNA contents of tumor cells were measured by image cytometry in 46 cases of micro- or early invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Also measured were nuclear area, perimeter, maximum diameter, chromatin pattern index, and staining intensity. Among the 46 cases, 20 cases which had both DNA diploid and aneuploid cell subpopulations were selected, and the two subpopulations were discriminated statistically. Multivariate discriminant analysis seperated clearly the two subpopulations, whereas univariate analysis failed. For canonical discriminant function, nuclear area was selected first, followed by staining intensity in each case. Other variables selected afterwards were nuclear perimeter, maximum diameter, and/or chromatin pattern index in random fashion. Correlation coefficient between the canoncial discriminant function and the variables were 0.20~0.40 for nuclear area and 0.25 or less for the others. The above results suggest that DNA ploidy is a parameter more or less independent on individual morphometric and photometric parameters.

6.A Clinical Observation on Cystoscopic Manipulation of Distal Ureteral Stones with Dormia Stone Dislodger.
Korean Journal of Urology 1982;23(4):511-514
The cystoscopic manipulation was done in 52 cases of ureteral stones who visited the Department of Urology, Soon-Chun-Hyang College Hospital during the period of 18 months from May. 1979 to August. 1980 using Dormia stone disloger and the following results were obtained. 1. With the Dormia stone dislodger, 27 cases of ureteral stone were removed successfully. 2. The ureteral stone passed in 8 cases within 72 hours after manipulation. 3. Of the 27 cases, 2 cases were middle ureteral stone and 25 cases were lower ureteral stone. 4. The largest stone measured 6.5 x 13 mm. 5. There were no major complication but minor complication occurred such as fever, pain and gross hematuria.

Korean Journal of Nosocomial Infection Control 2006;11(2):87-91
BACKGROUND: Silver has been used for disinfection and sterilization. We aimed to confirm the in-vitro antibacterial effects of nanocrystalline silver-coated gauze. METHODS: Fourteen clinical isolates each of Escherichia coli and Acinetobacter baumannii were used. Bacterial suspensions made in tryptic soy broth were exposed to Ordinary and silver-coated gauze. Bacteria were then harvested from the gauze immediately and after 24 h incubation, cultured on blood agar plates and eunmerated for viable counts. The number of colonies was converted into common logarithms for comparison. RESULTS: The number of colonies recovered from silver-coated gauze was significantly lower than those recovered from ordinary gauze when harvested immediately after exposure (E. coli, 3.06 vs 1.73; A. baumannii, 3.13 vs 1.98; P<0.001). After 24 h incubation of exposed gauze, silver-coated gauze produced less than 1 CFU/mL, whereas ordinary gauze produced a number of colonies significantly higher than it did immediately after exposure (E. coli, 4.13; A. baumannii, 4.46; P<0.001). Conclusion: Compared with ordinary gauze, silver-coated gauze was shown to have 99.99% antibacterial effect.

Metastatic tumors of the epididymis are rare and only 10 cases were reported. The primary tumor sites were kidney, stomach, prostate, ileum, sigmoid colon and pancreas. We recently observed a case of metastatic carcinoma to the epididymis from a primary cancer in the sigmoid and transverse colon.

Korean Journal of Urology 1986;27(5):752-756
The urachus lies between the peritoneum and transversalis fascia and extend from the anterior dome of the bladder toward the umbilicus. The urachal sinus is opened at the umbilicus superiority and not connected with the bladder. This may become symptomatic at any age with an infected discharge. We experienced a case of infected urachal sinus in a 21 years old girl, so we report this case with review of literatures.
