Authors have anthropologically measured the human skeleton from a Dugmoe Tomb of the technopolis of Kwang-ju city. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The human skeleton was thought to be constructed at the beginning of the period of the Chosun, judging from the Dugmoe Tomb. 2. It is female and its stature is estimated as about 163-165cm. The age of the skeleton is estimated to be late 50. 3. The cranial index is 77.09mm and the type is mesocephaly. 4. The cranial length-height index and the cranial breadth-height index were hypsicrane and acrocephaly. 5. The orbital index 95.0mm and the type is hypsiconch. 6. The humerus is comparatively long, slender and has more rounded diaphysis. 7. The femur is similar that of present day, and the type is platyer. 8. The abrasion of the occlusal surface of the teeth was 2.5 point.

We experienced a case of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple (EAN) in a 20-year-old lady. She have had an eczematous, erosive and crusted nipple, on the right si.de, with a serosanguineous discharge for the past two years. The biopsy specimen of eczematous lesion on the affected nipple showed focal erosion and acanthosis in the epidermis. Florid intraductal epithelial proliferation and solid nests were scattered in the nipple stroma without showing any cellular pleomorphism. The lining epithelium maintained two layers of cells the inner colurnnar cells and the outer cuboidal cells. Chronic inflammatory infiltrates of relatively dense lymphohisiocytes were found in the surrounding stromal tissue, Paget cells or underlying malignancy were not seen, and a group of tumor netst was confined to the upper part of the subareolar tissue.

The purpose of this study is to evaiuate the results of the reconstruction of acetabular bone defect with morselized bone graft and screw fixed hemispherical cup in revision of failed acetabular cup. Thirty four revisions of an acetabular component that had been performed in 34 patients between 1988 and 1993 at SNUH, and had followed more than four years were included in this study. The revised acetabulum was evaluated clinically by Harris hip score and radiologically by evaluating the osseous union, incorporation and resorption of graft, the amount of migration and cup angle change of revised components and periacetabular radiolucency. The mean Harris hip score was improved 52 to 84. All of the bone grafts united by 6.4 months and incorporated by 13.1 months. The graft bone resorption less than onefourth of the initial graft thickness was 91.2% (31 cases). There was no significant difference between pure allograft and allograft mixed with autograft in clinical and radiological results. Of 34 cases, 2 cases (5.9%) required rerevision of acetabulum for aseptic loosening. The two complications, postoperative infection and trochanteric bursitis were managed successfully with conservative methods. The results of the present study confirm the success of revision of the acetabulum with use of a hemispherical component stabilized with multiple small screws and morselized bone grafts filling bone defects.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1998;31(1):112-126
To investigate the effectiveness of the interventions in working environment and personal hygiene for the occupational exposure to the lead, the blood zinc protoporphyrin(ZPP) concentrations of 131 workers ( 100 exposed subjects and 31 controls ) of a newly established battery factory were analyzed. They were measured in every 3 months up to 18 months. Air lead concentration (Pb-A) of the workplaces was also checked for 3 times in 6 months interval from August 1987. Environmental intervention included the local exhaust ventilation and vacuum cleaning of the floor. Intervention of the personal hygiene included the daily change of clothes, compulsory shower after work and hand washing before meal, prohibition of cigarette smoking and food consumption at the work site and wearing mask. Mean blood ZPP concentration of the controls was 16.45+/-4.83 microgram/dashliter at the preemployment examination and slightly increased to 17.77+/-5.59 microgram/dashliter after 6 months. Mean blood ZPP concentration of the exposed subjects who were employed before the factory was in operation (Group A) was 17.36+/-5.20 microgram/dashliter on employment and it was increased to 23.00+/-13.06 microgram/dashliter after 3 months. The blood ZPP concentration was increased to 27.25+/-6.40 microgram/dashliter on 6 months (p<0.01) after the employment which was 1 month after the initiation of intervention program. It did not increase thereafter and ranged between 25.48 microgram/dashliter and 26.61 microgram/dashliter in the subsequent 4 results. Mean blood ZPP concentration of the exposed subjects who were employed after the factory had been in operation but before the intervention program was initiated (Group B) was 14.34+/-6.10 microgram/dashliter on employment and it was increased to 28.97+/-7.14 microgram/dashliter (p<0.01) in 3 months later(1 month after the intervention). The values of subsequent 4 tests were maintained between 26.96 microgram/dashliter and 27.96 microgram/dashliter. Mean blood ZPP concentration of the exposed subjects who were employed after intervention program had been started (Group C) was 21.34+/-5.25 microgram/dashliter on employment and it was gradually increased to 23.37+/-3.86 microgram/dashliter (p<0.01) after 3 months, 23.93+/-3.64 microgram/dashliter after 6 months, 25.50+/-3.01 microgram/dashliter (p<0.01) after 9 months, and 25.50+/-3.10 microgram/dashliter after 12 months. Workplaces were classified into 4 parts according to Pb-A. The Pb-A of part I, the highest areas, were 0.365 microgram/m4, and after the intervention the levels were decreased to 0.216 microgram/m4 and 0.208 microgram/m4 in follow-up test. The Pb-A of part II which was resulted in lower value than part I was decreased from 0.232 microgram/m4 to 0.148 microgram/m4, and 0.120 microgram/m4 after the intervention. The Pb-A of part III was tested after the intervention and resulted in 0.124 microgram/m4 in January 1988 and 0.081 microgram/m4 in August 1988. The Pb-A of part IV was also tested after the intervention and resulted in 0.110 microgram/m4 in August 1988. There was no consistent relationship between Pb-A and blood ZPP concentration. The blood ZPP concentration of the group A and B workers in the part of the highest Pb-A were lower than those of the workers in the parts of lower Pb-A. The blood ZPP concentration of the workers in the part of the lowest Pb-A increased more rapidly. The blood ZPP concentration of the group C workers was the highest in part III. These findings suggest that the intervention in personal hygiene is more effective than environmental intervention, and it should be carried out from the first day of employment and to both the exposed subjects, blue color workers and the controls, white color workers.

This studies were examined and compared the immunohistochemical distribution of the two calcium -binding proteins calbindin D -28K and parvalbumin positive neurons in the brain stem and spinal cord after transection of spinal cord in rats. In this experiment, calbindin D -28K immunoreactive neurons were mainly found in many pyramidal cells distributed in the brain stem and spinal cord of rats. Calbindin D -28K neuropil labeling was strongly noted in brain stem and in spinal all segments of the spinal cord. In contrast to parvalbumin, little differences were found in distribution, size and morphology of calbindin D -28K cell body or neuropil staining in the brain stem and spinal cord. Parvalbumin immunoreactive cells were demonstrated in all lamina of the gray matter of the spinal cord. These immunoreactive cells had the most high density in the layer I and II dorsal horn and several nuclei of the ventral horn of the all segments of the spinal cord. These immunoreactive cells between the brain stem and spinal cord were quite different markedly in number, cell size and morphology The number of parvalbumin positive cells were more than twice in the brain stem and spinal cord compared to the calbindin D -28K positive cells. Calbindin D -28K and parvalbumin -immunoreactive somata were round, oval, spindle and polygonal in shape, and the positive neurons were unipolar, bipolar, multipolar and horizontal in shape. The diameters of the somata of the two positive neurons were 30 ~40 micrometer, respectively. Also dendrites of two positive neurons were densely arrayed in arborization.

Journal of the Korean Society of Laryngology Phoniatrics and Logopedics 2018;29(1):24-29
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of surgical extent on voice using acoustic and aerodynamic measurements in a serially followed thyroidectomy patients. MATERIALS AND METHOD: From October 2015 to January 2017, 108 patients who had undergone thyroid surgery and voice test for preoperative, 2, 3, and 6 months postoperatively were classified into five operative types. The radiological stage preoperatively and histopathological stage postoperatively were classified according to the invasion of thyroid capsule and surrounding tissue. For each classification, the results of the voice analysis according to the period were compared and analyzed. RESULTS: The difference of voice according to surgical extent, radiological stage, and histopathologic stage showed significant difference only with Maximal phonation time (MPT) over time. However, in the analysis of interaction between each classification and period, Phonation threshold pressure (PTP) only showed significant results. CONCLUSION: Differences in imaging and histopathologic stages have no significant effect on recovery of voice symptoms after thyroid surgery. As the extent of operation increases, the pressure to start vocalization is relatively higher, which also varies with time after surgery.
