Forty patients(9 male and 31 female) with tsutsugamushi disease were evaluated clinically. The diagnosis of tsutsugamushi disease was confirmed by indirect immunofluoresent test or isolation of causative agent. More than 77% of patients were over 40 years of age. After the incubation period(5 to 13 days, average 8 days) symptoms developed suddenly. The frequent symtoms were fever(100%), chill(100%), headache(100%), rnalaise(97%), and myalgia(95%). On physical exammination the rash, eschar, and lymphadenopathy were found in 97%, 82%, and 67% respectively. Eschar was observed in the trunk, especially axillary, abdominal and inguinal area. Serum transarninase(SGOT snd SGPT) was elevated(89 and 87%). Urinalysis revealed proteinuria in 35%(12/34) and hematuria in 19%(7/36). Chest roentgram and ECG demonstrated abnormalities in 39%(14/36) and 73%(26/36) respectively, The treatment with doxycycline was very effective in all cases.

5.Use of Medical Resources by Preterm Infants Born at Less than 33 Weeks' Gestation Following Discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Korea.
Journal of Korean Medical Science 2015;30(Suppl 1):S95-S103
This study was aimed to provide data on the use of medical resources by preterm infants following discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The cohort included preterm infants (n=2,351) born at 22-32 weeks' gestation who were discharged from the NICUs of 44 Korean hospitals between April 2009 to March 2010. Mean duration of post-discharge follow-up was 425+/-237 days. After discharge from the NICU, 94.5% of total infants visited a pediatric outpatient clinic (11.5+/-9.8 mean visits), 42.9% visited a pediatric clinic for respiratory problems irregularly (4.9+/-6.6 mean visits), and 31.1% utilized emergency center at least once. Among all visits to the emergency center, 24.7% resulted in readmission and 50.8% of those visits were due to respiratory problems. At least one episode of readmission was required by 33.6% (788/2,346) of total infants, and 18.4% (431/2,346) of total infants were readmitted with respiratory problems at least once. Among all infants readmitted for respiratory problems, 16.2% (70/341) were diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus infection which accounted for 30.3% of viral etiologies confirmed by laboratory testing. Infants born at <30 weeks' gestation had more frequent total readmission and respiratory readmission than those > or =30 weeks' gestation (2+/-1.7 vs. 1.7+/-1.2, P=0.009, 1.8+/-1.2 vs. 1.5+/-1.1, 0.027, respectively). Overall, use of medical resources is common, and respiratory problems are the leading cause of use of medical resources. Total readmissions and respiratory readmissions are more frequent in more immature infants.

We report a case of tuberculosis verrucosa cutis in a 64-year-old male patient, who had multiple verrucous plaques on his right hand for twenty years. His past history revealed a previous history of injury on his lesion site. Histologic features consisted of hyperkeratosis, acanthosis in the epidermis with inflammatory infiltrate and tuberculoid granuloma in the dermis. It was suspected that the patient had tuberculosis verrucosa cutis, but no bacilli was found in the lesion in the AFB stain. Then we performed PCR, which showed a positive result. We started antituberculosis medication, and the lesions cleared up after 6 months of treatment with isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. The lesions were later confirmed to be tuberculosis by the AFB culture. We suggest that early diagnosis of tuberculosis verrucosa cutis can be made by using PCR.

Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2000;26(5):437-445
OBJECT: This study is focused on the comparison between CO2 laser and scalpel by examining the overal process of wound healing after partial glossectomy of rats so that the result from the research could be easily applied to actual clinical environment. METHOD AND MATERIAL: In this research, 2mm defect was formed on both lateral borders of the tongue of rats by using CO2 laser and scalpel respectively. 4rats were sacrified each time on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 14th and 21th day according to a general method. After fabricating 5 micrometer paraffin specimen, H&E staining and MT staining were performed. RESULTS: Compared to scalpel, wound healing by CO2 laser leads to a earlier initiation of vascular proliferation and re-epithelization. Therefore, some influence is exerted on the early stage of wound healing. However, the two methods seem to undergo the similar healing process.
