To evaluate the relationship between eating behavior and neurotic trait in middle school students, the authors applied eating scale, Middlesex Hospital Puestionaire and Zung's self-reting depression scale to 419 middle school students(male : 187, female : 232) in Taegu city in 1993. There was no significant relationship between weight devided groups. Female middle school students showed significant high scores(p<0.05) in all scales compared to male middle school students. The correlation between eating scale and the other two scales showed significant correlationship(p<0.05) Among psychosocial factors, the items related to dissatisfaction to present and future self image(each p<0.05, p<0.05), dissatisfaction to present environmental status(p<0.05) and dissatisfaction to future attitude showed significant high score in both sex. The item related to dissatisfaction to present interpersonal relationship (p<0.05) showed significant high score in male middle school students. The items related to eat consumption rate of 61-90% (p<0.05), unsatisfied to relationship with family(p<0.05), unsatisfied to childhood family atmosphere(p<0.05), unsatisfied to past self image(p<0.05) and unsatisfied to present relationship between parent(p<0.05) showed significant high score.

Primary lymphoma of uterine cervix is rare disease, which usually occurs in postmenopausal periods. The usual symptoms are vaginal bleeding, postcoital bleeding. The most common pathologic feature is a diffuse cell type, B-cell line. Pap smear is not helpful in diagnosis because it is stromal origin. Biopsy confirms the diagnosis. Treatment consists of radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy. The prognosis of the disease is dependent upon Ann arbor stage and International index score rather than FIGO stage. We experienced one case of primary lymphoma of cervix and report it with a brief review of literature.

The authors studied anxiety-depression using New Anxiety-Depression Scale (NADS) in the subjects of 2,564 male and 1,252 female college freshmen of Yeungnam University. The authors collected the reports of NADS during the periods from January to February 1987, and applied ANOVA and t-test on anxiety depression scores in order to compare them between various psychosocial factors and sexes. The results are as follows: There was significant difference in the mean average of total scores between male and female students: male students scored 33.41±8.76 and female students scored 35.34±9.02 (P<0.001). The anxiety-depression scores relating to the items of sleep disturbance, apprehension, facial flushing and fatigue were relatively scored higher in both groups. One hundred and thirty nine male students (5.4%) showed seriously higher degree of anxiety-depression scores of 50 or more, while eighty eight female students (7.0%) showed the same scores. There was a strong tendency toward higher anxiety-depression scores in the students who were dissatisfied with their home atmosphere, colleges, departments, familiarity of parents and those who had pessimistic views of self image in the past, presents and future in both groups (P<0.001).

CATCH 22 is a medical acronym for cardiac defects, abnormal faces, thymic hypoplasia, cleft palate, and hypocalcemia, and a variable deletion on chromosome 22. It includes DiGeorge syndrome, conotruncal anomaly face syndrome, and velo-cardio-facial syndrome. It has a prevalence estimated at 1:3,000-1:6,000. Most deletions occur at de novo, but autosomal dominant inheritance is observed in 6-10% of cases. Hormonal disorders are common in patients with CATCH22 syndrome. While hypoparathyroidism was the predominant endocrine disturbance that has been documented in the DiGeorge syndrome, other hormonal defects, such as growth hormone deficiency, hypothyroidism, and hyperthyroidism have been occurred in patients with CATCH22 syndrome. The spectrum of parathyroid gland dysfunction in this syndrome ranges from severe neonatal hypocalcemia to normal parathyroid function. Most patients are usually diagnosed in young age, but a few patients with mild abnormality are presented later in life. We report a case of CATCH22 syndrome with normal parathyroid hormone and calcium level in an adult. The diagnosis of CATCH22 syndrome was confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis.

OBJECTICES AND METHODS: The purpose of this study was to examine availabilities of stop-signal task as a screening test for ADHD and as a research tool. Stop-signal task was applied to 40 ADHD patients and 18 normal children. Followings are the results of this study. RESULTS: There were significant differences between ADHD group and control group in ZRFT, mean delay x block and primary-RT of stop-signal task performance(p<0.05). There was no significant difference in results of continuous performance test. SSRT of stop-signal task had significant correlation with hit reaction time of continuous performance test, and primary-RT and primary-SD with attentiveness and hit reaction time of continuous performance test. There was no significant correlation between scores of ADDES-HV and stop-signal task performance. In change of primary-SD according to intelligence, primary-SD decreased as intelligence increased but made plateau after IQ 110, and in change of SSRT according to age, SSRT decreased as intelligence increased but made plateau after 10 year-old. In discriminant ability, mean delay x block and primary-RT showed highest discriminant ability (each 75%). In addition P-inhibit showed 63.89%, SSRT showed 58%, ZRFT showed 67%, and primary-SD showed 58% in discriminant ability. There was no significant difference in stop-signal task performance between ADHD with hyperactivity and ADHD without hyperactivity. CONCLUSION: In this point of view, stop-signal task was proved to be a useful research tool for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as useful screening test tool.

The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of attention deficit disorder evaluation scale-school version(ADDES-SV). Between October 1996 and November 1996, ADDES-SV was administered to 263 elementary school students in the second grade and between Jun 1996 and October 1996, 28 attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patients. In the reliability test, the test-retest reliability coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.88, that of impulsivity was 0.80, that of hyperactivity was 0.83 and total score was 0.83. In the reliability test by internal consistancy, the Cronbach alpha coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.98, that of impulsivity was 0.87, that of hyperactivity was 0.87(p<0.05). The half-sprit reliability coefficient by first-second half method showed high correlation and that of inattention was part 1: 0.96, part 2: 0.96 impulsivity was part 1: 0.95, part 2: 0.93, hyperactivity was part 1: 0.92, part 2: 0.94(p<0.05). Inter-rater reliability by pearson correlation coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.92, that of impulsivity was 0.87, that of hyperactivity was 0.89 and total score was 0.89. The concurrent validity between ADDES-SV and CAP scale was 0.85 in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patient group and 0.79 in normal control group(p<0.05). In discriminant validity test between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patient group and normal control group, the patient group showed higher score(p<0.05). The total discriminant capacity of the patient group in ADDES-SV was 94.6%. In this point of view, ADDES-SV scale showed high reliability and validity in applying to Korean subjects and was proved to be the useful screening test tool for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder research.

STUDY DESIGN: The results of posterior occipitocervical fusions were analyzed retrospectively based on the results of post-operative radiographs. OBJECTIVES: To investigate subjective methods for the evaluation of occipitocervical stabilization by posterior fusion. SUMMARY OF LITERATURE REVIEW: Few studies have been performed that describe the methods utilized for the evaluation of the union of the instrumented segments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Occipitocervical fusions were performed in 16 patients from 1995 to 2004. The patients underwent occipitocervical fusions with autogenous iliac bone grafting and wire fixation (5), loop and sublaminar wire fixation (3), C-D occipitocervical rod (2), and contoured reconstruction plate (6). The stability and failure of the instrumentation in the fusion sites were evaluated with flexion/extension lateral radiographs. The stability was evaluated by a change in the degrees and distances between the occiput and cervical vertebrae. RESULTS: Two of five patients who had undergone wire fixation with autogenous bone grafting were considered to have a nonunion because of persistent segmental instability: greater than 2 degrees and 2 mm three months postoperatively. In the other patients, we were unable to determine the presence of a solid fusion mass at the fusion site, because of overlapping of the instrumentation devices and graft bones. However, since there was no definite motion that indicated segmental instability and instrumentation breakage or loosening on flexion and extension radiographs, we considered these as stable fixations. CONCLUSION: It was difficult to evaluate whether or not the grafts were incorporated into the recipient sites, due to the complexity of the occipitocervical junction and the overlapping of the instrumentation. After removal of the external immobilization 3 months postoperatively, although flexion/extension radiographs taken 6 months postoperatively, demonstrated no motion at the fusion site, the occipitocervical fusions were judged to be stabilized rather than fused.
