We described a case of diffuse biphasic cutaneous amyloidosis, a unique form of localized cutaneous amyloidosis. A 41-year-old man has gradually developed a lichenoid papular and a grouped spotted pigmented macular eruption on the trunk and upper extremities over the past 15 years. Histopathologic examination revealed that amyloid deposits were present in the papillary dermis. It was confirmed by Congo red staining, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. There was no evidence of systemic amyloidosis.

BACKGROUND: Contact immunotherapy using diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP) has been used in the treatment of alopecia and warts. DPCP seemed to be a promising agent for viral disease including molluscum contagiosum (MCI). OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of DPCP immunotherapy on MC in children. METHODS: Twenty three patients with multiple lesion of MC were treated with DPCP immunotherapy. RESULTS: Twelve patients (52.2%) showed cure, and eleven patients (47.8%) showed treatment failure. No severe side effects were seen. CONCLUSION: DPCP immunotherapy may be an effective treatment in children with MC without serious side effects.

One hundred sixteen C57 BL mice were painted with either 8-MOP, 5-MOP or TMP solution in concentrations of 0.02%, 0.1%, and 0.5% each and UVA irradiated. Skin biopsies were performed at 1, 3, 5 and 7 weeks after LJVA irradiation. The results measuring the number, area, and perimeter of the melanocytes after topical PLJVA were higher in the TMP-painted group than in the 8-MOP or 5-MOP painted groups. In all groups, the weekly changes showed an increasing value through five weeks. In comparing the drug concentrations used, 0.1% of chemicals produced the same or higher values than 0.5%. There have been few studies on the effects of 5-MOP in photochemotherapy. In tho study 5-MOP produced a pigment-producing effect similar to 8-MOP. Therefore, if topical PIJVA with 5-MOP is used in clinical practice, we could expect a significant therapeutic effect in vitiligo.

PURPOSE: Change in sexual activity after acetabular fracture has not been elucidated to date. Hence, the purpose of this study was to reveal: (1) how acetabular fracture affects the status of sexual activity; (2) how acetabular fracture affects patient satisfaction about sexual activity; and (3) what are the concerns of patients regarding sexual activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 2014 and December 2014, a self-reported questionnaire was conducted with patients who had been sexually active before the treatment for acetabular fracture. Out of the nineteen patients who participated in the questionnaire, twelve men and three women were included for final analysis; patients who were treated conservatively were excluded. RESULTS: All patients had hip pain (mean visual analogue scale score, 2.9; range, 1-7) at 1 year after the trauma. Fourteen patients (93.3%, 14/15) resumed sexual activity within 1 year (mean, 3.9 months; range, 2–6 months). After excluding one patient who did not recover to allow sexual activity, the frequency of sex was decreased in 11 patients (78.6%, 11/14). Sexual satisfaction was decreased in seven patients (46.7%, 7/15). Old age was associated with decreased sexual satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Half of the patients showed a decreased satisfaction from sexual activity after acetabular fracture, with hip pain being the most common problem. Although our study was a small, single-center study, it provides information regarding sexual activity of patients after acetabular fracture.

BACKGROUND: It is crystal clear how important healthcare providers are well-aware of reasonable knowledge on osteoporosis, because they are at the forefront of such management. However, no study has been yet assessed in the knowledge on osteoporosis among healthcare providers particularly in nurse. Therefore, we evaluated the knowledge on osteoporosis of nurses. METHODS: In April 2017, 67 nurses were evaluated using a modified Facts on Osteoporosis Quiz (FOOQ). RESULTS: Although nurses grasped some points of osteoporosis, their knowledge was insufficient concerning effects of weight, physical exercise and calcium intake during adolescence. CONCLUSIONS: The level of knowledge on osteoporosis was evaluated in nurses, and the effect of weight, physical exercise, and calcium intake during adolescence should be focused in an educational program on osteoporosis for nurses.

PURPOSE: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a grave complication. Urinary tract infection (UTI) as a source for PJI is controversial. Our purposes were, (1) to evaluate the incidence of PJI after elective primary THA and (2) to determine whether UTI was associated with a risk of PJI after elective primary THA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 527 patients who underwent elective primary THA by using universal aseptic technique from May 2003 to October 2007. UTI group (13 patients) was defined as patients who underwent THA in status of having an UTI, and the remaining patients were defined as control group (514 patients). We compared the incidence of PJI in both groups. RESULTS: During the study period, the incidence of PJI was 0%, regardless of existence (or presence) of UTI. CONCLUSION: There was no significant association between UTI and PJI, when cautiously performed THA.

An unusual case of glroependymal cyst involving the lateral ventricle, 3rd ventricle, cerebellopontine angle cistern and prepontine cistern, simultaneously, is reported. The glroependymal cyst is benign developmental cyst that mainly occurs in the cerebrospinal axis in relation to ventricle, but occasionally occurs in relation to extraventricular system, such as subarachnoid space, brain stem and cerebral parenchyme. The histological characteristics of ependymal cyst wall are ependyma-like epithelium and neuroglial tissue.
