Borderline clear cell adenofibromatous tumors are rare with only 26 cases reported in the English literature. Five of these cases exhibited microinvasion and 4 demonstrated intraepithelial carcinoma. We report 2 cases, one typical case and the other with microinvasion. The histological findings revealed widely spaced and focally crowded, variably-sized atypical glands or tubules lined by clear, eosinophilic or hobnail cells set in a dense fibrous stroma. One of the two cases had small solid nests or single cells in the stroma around the proliferative glands less than 1 mm in length that was considered to be a microinvasion.

Erythroplasia of Queyrat is an uncommon form of carcinoma in situ involving the glans penis and adjacent mucosal structures. Treatment modalities of Erythroplasia of Queyrat vary widely and topical 5-fluorouracil treatment is very effective and regarded as the choice of t eatment. This article reports a case of erythroplasia of Queyrat involving the perimeatal region of the glans penis and identifies the difficulty of effectively treating erythroplasia of Queyrat which is adjaer to the urethral meatus with 5-fluorouracil and usefulness of electron beam irradiation therapy.

OBJECTIVE: CD44 (Cluster Differentiation 44) is an adhesional molecule postulated to play a role in tumor-cell invasion and metastasis. We have evaluated the correlation between the expression of CD44 variant 6 molecule and the prognostic factors in early stage cervical cancer. METHODS: Total sixty five samples of cervical tumor (23 samples of carcinoma in situ, 19 samples of FIGO stage Ia1, 9 samples of stage Ia2, 15 samples of stage Ib1) were immunohistochemically stained for detecting CD44V6 molecule, and which were compared with FIGO stage, invasion depth, gland involvement, lymphovascular space invasion, and keratinized type. RESULTS: CD44V6 was detected in 60 cases (92.3%). Immunoreactivity was decreased in more than 5 mm stromal invasion depth group (p=0.009), and there were no difference in carcinoma in situ, stage Ia1, and stage Ia2. There were no correlation between the expression of CD44 variant 6 molecule and the FIGO stage, gland involvement, lymphovascular space invasion, and keratinized type. CONCLUSION: CD44V6 expression does correlate with early stromal invasion, but does not correlate with other prognostic factors in cervical cancer. CD44V6 expression may play important role in progression of early cervical cancer.

Villous tumor of the duodenum are rare, only 89 cases having been reported and reviewed in several recent publication. Malignancy is discovered in approximately 30-45% leading to the recommandation that all such tumors be excised regardless of the endoscopic findings. Two cases of villous tumor of the duodenum were reported and locally excised. The pathologic specimens showed carcinoma in situ, no evidence of hematogenous and lymphatic metastasis.

OBJECTIVE: The Bethesda System (1991) recommended that the diagnosis of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) be qualified when possible to indicate whether a reactive process, or premalignant/malignant process, is favored. In order to evaluate the clinical significance of the qualification, we reviewed our hospital's experience with cervicovaginal smears diagnosed as ASCUS. METHOD: A retrospective study from June 1994 to December 2000 was performed on all cervicovaginal smears with the diagnosis of ASCUS. 3759 cases were included in study group. The 1200 cases of 3759 were not followed up. Histopathologic diagnosis and cervicovaginal smear results were reviewed and compared according to the qualification of ASCUS. The Chi-square test was used. RESULTS: Histopathologic diagnosis of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LGSIL) was seen in 46.1%, 47.8%, and 44.3% of the ASCUS FR, ASCUS FD and ASCUS NOS group, respectively. Histopathologic diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HGSIL) was seen in 6.0%, 17.2% and 7.8% of the ASCUS FR, ASCUS FD and ASCUS NOS group, respectively. In ASCUS FR group, 1 invasive carcinoma was detected. In ASCUS FD group, 6 carcinoma in situ (CIS), 2 microinvasive carcinoma, 1 invasive carcinoma and 1 adenosquamous cell carcinoma were detected. In ASCUS NOS group, there were 20 CIS, 5 microinvasive carcinoma, 7 invasive carcinoma and 2 invasive adenocarcinoma. The ASCUS FD group demonstrated significant risk for SIL and more severe lesion but ASCUS FR and ASCUS NOS demonstrated no significant difference. CONCLUSION: ASCUS FD group has increased risk for detection of SIL or more severe lesion than ASCUS FR or ASCUS NOS group. But there were also significant number of SIL and even invasive cancer in ASCUS FR and ASCUS NOS group, so qualification of ASCUS was not useful for management and colposcopy-directed biopsy is advocated even in ASCUS FR group.
