Verrucous carcinoma is simply very well differentiated malignant neoplasm. It is unique only in that the diagnosis is difficult to make histologically and locally invasive but metastasis is rare. Clinically, verrucous carcinoma is often warty and usually exophytic. It can be multicentric. It looks uniquely epithelial. When biopsy is done, the pathologist uses words such as "hyperplasia", "keratosis" or "fibrosis", however is reluctant to use the word "carcinoma". Verrrucous carcinoma can be present in three forms: oral or mucosal, genital, and plantar. Base of tongue is uncommon site in it. Authors are reporting a case of huge verrucous carcinoma of base of tongue with a view of the related articles.

Verrucous carcinoma(VC) is a low grade and well-differentiated, unusual variant of squamous cell carcinoma, presenting as a warty tumor. It is often underdiagnosed because of its gross appearance and slow growing pattern, and histologically, the diagnosis of VC is usually difficult as a result of its cellular benignity. We present a case of VC on the foot, which had been treated as a wart for over eight months and treated with amputation. VC shoud be considered in the differential diagnosis for any warty lesion, especially, intractable long-standing warty lesion, and the diagnosis for VC is based on the combination of the history of the lesion, clinical features, and histopathological findings from an adequately deep specimen.

Korean Journal of Urology 2004;45(3):297-298
Verruciform xanthoma is an uncommon benign lesion. The most common presentation occurs in the oral cavity; however, it has also been described in other sites, especially the penis. Herein is reported the first case of verruciform xanthoma of the penis in China, the fourteenth case in the literature. Clinically, genital verruciform xanthoma is often confuses with papillomas, verrucous carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, and therefore a histopathological diagnosis is necessary.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(9):486-488
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the clinical, pathological character and differential diagnosis of laryngeal verrucous carcinoma.
METHOD:
Clinical data of one case with laryngeal verrucous carcinoma in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULT:
The diagnosis of verrucous carcinoma was difficult and depend on repeated biopsy. Verrucous carcinoma of larynx is a highly differentiated variant of squamous carcinoma that has peculiar clinical and morphological features. The basement membrane is not invaded. It is prone to distant metastasis, than to local recurrence. The case underwent the partial laryngectomy, and was followed up for more than 4 years with no recurrence.
CONCLUSION
Verrucous carcinoma of the larynx is a special pattern of the well-differentiated squamous cancer. A correct diagnosis requires close cooperation between the laryngologist and the pathologist. The main treatment of verrucous carcinoma is complete surgical excision to reserve larynx function as far as possible and improve the quality of life.

9.A case presentation of verrucous carcinoma originated from verrrucous lekoplakia
Journal of the Korean Association of Maxillofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 2006;28(4):339-347
carcinoma such as verrrucous carcinoma, papillary squamous cell carcinoma and invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Early diagnosis and intervention of premalignant leukoplakia is up-most important to prevent transformation into a oral squamous cell carcinoma. Any change in surface, size and color warrants repeated biopsy. If verrucous carcinoma is evidently derived from the previous leukoplakia, wide surgical excision and periodic follow up is needed. Surgically removed lesion of leukoplakia has the tendency to recur. Follow-up is very important to patient and clinician. Although many therapies have been reported to oral leukoplakia and verrucal carcinoma, accepted treatment principle is not exist so far. But surgical removal is recommended as the treatment of choice.]]>

10.A Case of Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the External Auditory Canal Previously Treated for Verrucous Carcinoma.

Journal of Audiology & Otology 2016;20(3):183-186
Carcinoma in the external auditory canal (EAC) is a rare malignancy with an annual incidence of one per one million people, accounting for less than 0.2% of all head and neck cancers. The most common histopathological type of EAC cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. Verrucous carcinoma is a well-differentiated, low-grade variant of squamous cell carcinoma. It is a locally destructive, invasive, and slow growing tumor that rarely metastasizes. Verrucous carcinoma occurs predominantly in the oral cavity and larynx, and its occurrence in the EAC is extremely rare. In this report, we present a histologically confirmed case of verrucous carcinoma in the EAC and temporal bone, which for several years had been classified as epithelial hyperplasia. Two-and-a-half years after diagnosis of verrucous carcinoma, a recurrent mass was found and the lesion was then confirmed to be squamous cell carcinoma.
