1.The relation between serum SCC levels and the disease stages of the patients with squamous cell cervical cancer
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 2004;303(10):55-60
Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of serum squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) antigen in cervical cancer patients. Serum SCC levels were measured in 222 cervical cancer patients, and were evaluated by statistical analysis. Results: 69.3% patients had serum SCC level >2µg/L and 25.2% had serum SCC level >10µg/L. The increase of serum SCC level is related to age, disease stages and could be a significant prognostic factor in cervical cancer

PURPOSE: To assess the characteristics and treatments of ocular surface squamous neoplasms (OSSN). METHODS: We analyzed four representative cases of squamous neoplasms present on the ocular surface and discussed a new paradigm for the diagnosis and management of such lesions. CONCLUSIONS: Conjunctival and corneal tumors differentiated to squamous cells are rare. OSSN has various clinical appearances, and because OSSN itself is either malignant or has potential to become malignancy, precise discrimination and adequate treatment methods are necessary. We hope that the results from this study provide a basic source of information for diagnosing and treating OSSN.

Primary neoplasms arising in vesical diverticulum are rare and present special problems in diagnosis. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment are stressed. We report one case of squamous cell carcinoma in bladder diverticulum with brief review of literature.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1977;15(1):89-93
Keratoacanthoma is a benign, self limited epithelial tumor which is resemble to squamous cell carcinoma clinically and histopathologically. We have experienced a case of solitary Keratoacanthoma 48-year old female which involved left upper cheek, Diagnosis was made by characteristic clinical symptom, and. histopathologic finding.

Neoplasm of the fallopian tube, which account for only a small minority of female genital tract tumors, may have diagnostic difficulties both clinically and pathologically. In most cases, the diagnosis of tubal carcinoma is not suspected preoperatively, and an abnormality of the tube is first appreciated by the gynecologist at the time of operation or by the pathologist on gross or microscopic examination. The predominant cell type of the fallopian tubal carcinoma is known for adenomatous cell type of carcinoma. A case of pure primary squamous cell carcinoma of the Fallopian tube presenting is reported first in Korea.

The synchronous primary lung cancer is very rare cancer, proportion of synchronous lung cancer is about 1~2% of total lung cancer, When pathologic type is same, preoperative diagnosis is very difficult and it may be misdiagnosed as lung to lung metastasis. We have experienced synchronous primary lung cancer of heterogenous squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Mature cystic teratoma is a common type of ovarian tumor. Although squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common carcinoma in malignant transformations of ovarian mature cystic teratomas, SCC arising in a mature teratoma is rare. METHODS: This paper reports four cases of invasive SCC, a case of an adenosquamous cell carcinoma and a case of a pure in situ SCC arising in a mature cystic teratoma including a clinicopathological evaluation and an immunohistochemical study of the p53 protein and p21WAF1/CIP1. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 60 years. The sizes of the mature cystic teratomas in all cases were greater than 7.5 cm in the largest diameter. Five cases showed the nuclear accumulation of the p53 protein with no p21WAF1/CIP1 immunoreactivity. The other case showed the nuclear accumulation of p21WAF1/CIP1 without p53 expression. There was a significant inverse relationship between the p53 protein level and p21WAF1/CIP1 expression. CONCLUSION: A clinicopathological evaluation showed that a SCC arising from a mature cystic teratoma must be included in a differential diagnosis when the patient is over 42 years of age and the size of a mature cystic teratoma is greater than 75 mm in the largest diameter. It is suggested that p53 overexpression is implicated in the malignant transformation, and the p21WAF1/CIP1 expression level is dependent on alterations in the level of the p53 protein in these tumors.
