3.The Extensibilty of the Albino Rabbit Sclera after Cryoapplication and Diathermy.

The extensibility of the albino rabbit sclera was measured after cryoapplication and diathermy on the equator of sclera and these extensibilities were compared with normal control. For cryoapplication, 95% alcohol and solid carbon dioxide mixture was used and this cryoprobe was applied on the equator of rabbit sclera of right eye for 3 seconds. Castroviejo apparatus was used for diathermy and nonperforating surface diathermy was performed on the equator of rabbit sclera of left eye for one second with current of 30mA. Immediately after cryoapplication and diathermy, the extension rates of sclera were 2.556% and 6.039%, respectively. The extension rates of one week after cryoapplication and diathermy were 3.234 % and 4.127%, respectively. The extension rate of two weeks after diathermy was 3.489%. Normal control was 3.055%.

Traditional medical device sterilization processes are mature, but there are constraints when using on medical devices by new materials. With increasing environmental concerns, using of ethylene oxide sterilization has been limited by global environmental protection administrations. Exploring new sterilization methods for medical devices is urgently needed. This paper reviews the supercritical carbon dioxide sterilization technology by arranging the exploratory work of industry researchers. In the paper, we introduce the theory of supercritical carbon dioxide sterilization technology, microbial inactivation ability, material influence research and sterilization equipment. Then we discuss the concerns and possibilities of the technology applied to the medical device industry basing on the good manufacturing practices.

9.Treatment of xanthelasma palpebraum with the carbon dioxide laser

14 patients with xanthelasma palperbraum of the eyelids have been treated with the CO2 laser. The lipomatous yellow plaque are accurately photovaporized in a bloodless field until the lesion is totally eradicated. The operation with the CO2 laser does not depend on a shape, size, position of the lesion. Satisfactory cosmetic results were achived in 13 of 14 patients without significant scarring.

10.A case of Mucocutaneous Colloid Milium in an adult Filipino female with chronic kidney disease

A 65-year-old female with chronic kidney disease (CKD) presented with a six-month history of asymptomatic translucent skin-colored and yellow plaques on the face. Similar yellow papules and nodules were noted in the oral cavity and eyelid margins. Biopsies were taken from the face and oral cavity showed homogeneous eosinophilic deposits with clefts in the dermis consistent with colloid milium. The patient was treated with fractional and surgical carbon dioxide (CO2) laser with improvement after one session.
