1.Magnetic resonance imaging of patients with polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection for facial plasty

Objective To investigate MRI signal features and MRI appearances of patients with advanced stage in polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection for facial plasty.Methods In this study,MRI of 11 cases with 23 polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection of facial plasty for 6 to 10 years were retrospectively reviewed.All images were acquired with GE 3.0T MR imaging unit.MR sequences,including FSE T1WI,FSE FS T2WI,and STIR were applied with 8-channel brain coil.MRIs sliced through the maxillofacial region in the transverse,coronal and sagittal planes.Results In 11 cases of 23 polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection,there were different degrees of capsule rupture and induration in 6 polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection,and the images showed sporadic callosities such as subcutaneous nodules and nodules in glands or muscles ; hydrogel migration in 8 polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection.Secondary deformity occured in 80 % cases,in which the most cases were induced by hydrogel migration.Conclusions Magnetic resonance imaging can make clear of the type of rupture and the distribution leakage of polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel for facial plasty and it is an ideal approach for advanced patients with polyacrylamide hydrophilic gel injection for follow-up.
2.Fas and Fas-L expression in human adenocarcinoma of uterine cervix.

OBJECTIVETo study the significance of Fas and Fas-L expression in adenocarcinoma of uterine cervix.
METHODSBoth carcinoma tissue and their surrounding tissues from 36 patients with adenocarcinoma of uterine cervix, previously untreated either by radiation or chemotherapy, were studied for the expression of Fas and Fas-L by immunohistochemical stain with DNA apoptosis fragment detected by TUNEL.
RESULTSThe TUNEL labeling index was negatively correlated with differentiation of adenocarcinoma of cervix. Compared to highly differentiated and moderately differentiated tumor, the TUNEL labeling index was reduced obviously in poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (P < 0.01). Fas expression was detected in 31 cases (86%) while there were only 3 weakly stained in the normal endocervical glands around the carcinoma. The 5 unstained carcinomas were 3 highly differentiated and 2 moderately differentiated. The positively stained Fas was associated with differentiation; the stronger the stain, the less differentiation there was. The Fas-L expression was detected in all adenocarcinomas while there was only 1 weakly stained in the normal ones. No significant difference was found in the expression of Fas-L in carcinomas with different degrees of differentiation. No correlation was observed between Fas and Fas-L expression.
CONCLUSIONSThe Fas expression is positively correlated with the different degrees of differentiation and Fas-L expression may be associated with the escape from of immunal surveillance.

3.Advances in the mouse models of myeloid leukemia.

Mouse animal models are the most commonly used experimental tools in scientific research, which have been widely favored by researchers. The animal model of mouse leukemia appeared in the 1930s. During the past 90 years, researchers have developed various types of mouse leukemia models to simulate the development and treatment of human leukemia in order to promote effectively the elucidation of the molecular mechanism of leukemia' development and progression, as well as the development of targeted drugs for the treatment of leukemia. Considering that to myeloid leukemia, especially acute myeloid leukemia, there currently is no good clinical treatment, it is urgent to clarify its new molecular mechanism and develop new therapeutic targets. This review focuses on the various types of mouse models about myeloid leukemia used commonly in recent years, including mouse strains, myeloid leukemia cell types, and modeling methods, which are expected to provide a reference for relevant researchers to select animal models during myeloid leukemia research.

4.Burden of cervical neoplasia in mid-western rural Nepal: a population-based study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the burden of cervical neoplasia in mid-western rural, Nepal using cytology, visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and visual inspection with Lugol's iodine (VILI). METHOD: A cross-sectional, population-based study was conducted. Total of 2,279 married, non-pregnant women aged 20–65 years participated in a screening clinic from May 2016 to January 2017. All eligible women completed self-report of socio-demographic and reproductive health data followed by screening tests. Biopsies were obtained from areas on the cervix assessed by VIA and or VILI to be abnormal. Final disease was confirmed by biopsy report. RESULTS: A total of 96.09% (n=2,190) women were eligible for this study with mean age 32.78±9.33 years. The overall rate of positive cytology, VIA, and VILI were 3.69%, 12.45%, and 16.89%, respectively. Sixty-two cases were biopsy proven cervical neoplasia. Altogether 78 (3.69%) cases were cytologically abnormal: 25 (1.18%) were atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance, 33 (1.56%) were low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, 11 (0.52%) were high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, and 9 (0.42%) were squamous cell carcinoma. Illiterate women appeared to be at higher risk for cervical neoplasia (p < 0.001). Similarly, age ≥ 46 years (p < 0.013), participant's multiple marriages or sexual partners (p < 0.005), and positive human immunodeficiency virus status (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with abnormal cytology. CONCLUSION: Based on cytology report, there is 3.69% prevalence of cervical neoplasia among women in a rural region of mid-western, Nepal. A “screen and treat” approach would be more attractive in low resource settings.

5.Epidemiological characteristics of Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

Objective:To investigate the epidemic status and molecular characteristics of Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (referred to as Xinjiang). Methods:From April to June 2020, 312 samples of Ixodes were collected in 6 areas of Yili, Alashankou, Hutubi, Qinghe, Fuhai and Wujiaqu, Xinjiang. Nested PCR and fluorescence quantitative PCR were used to detect Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks. The positive samples by both methods were genotyped and identified by nested PCR products. Results:The positive rates of nested PCR and fluorescence quantitative PCR were 8.97% (28/312) and 11.86% (37/312), respectively. Among them, the fluorescence quantitative PCR positive rate of Qinghe was the highest of 35.29% (12/34), and the positive rate of Fuhai was the lowest of 2.00% (1/50). The positive samples by both methods was 26. Genotyping results showed that 12 samples were highly homologous to Borrelia garinii, 10 copies to Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, and 4 copies to Borrelia afzelii. Conclusions:The positive rate of Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks in Xinjiang is higher, which has confirmed that there are 3 pathogenic Borrelia burgdorferi genotypes in Xinjiang. The dominant genotype is Borrelia garinii, followed by Borrelia burgdorgferi sensu stricto genotype and Borrelia afzelii genotype.
