Objective To observe the management effect of pressure pain point and painful tubercle in occiput-neck part on tension-type headache (TTH). Methods 380 TTH patients were treated by palpating the central and both sides part from the external occipital protuberance to the spinous processes of neck; recording the total number and position of pressure pain points and painful tubercles; kneading, hitting and pressing all recorded pressure pain points and painful tubercles. Results After 1-6 times treatment, 283 were cured and 58 were effected. The efficiency ratio is 89.7%. Conclusion Muscle obstacle in occiput-neck part plays an important role in TTH. Massage therapy has a significant effect on pressure pain points and painful tubercle.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2011;17(11):1052-1055
Objective To explore the factors related with the quality of life in the elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods 92elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis were tested with short-form 36 health survey scale (SF-36), visual analogue pain scale (VAS), 5times' movement of sit-to-stand, 10 m walking speed, 3 m timed-up and walking test. At the same time, the radiological grades of knees andthe total amount of chronic diseases were collected. Results The VAS of knee pain, the course of knee osteoarthritis, the total amount ofchronic diseases and 10-m walking speed were related with SF-36 score (P<0.01). Conclusion Knee pain, course of knee osteoarthritis, totalamount of chronic diseases and walking ability are related with the quality of life in the elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis, especiallyfor knee pain.

Objective To investigate the effect of different dosage of pulsed magnetic field on expression of platelet-derived growth factor-A (PDGF-A) in rabbits with carotid atherosclerosis after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Methods Carotid atherosclerosis were modeled in 50 New Zealand rabbits with air-drying lesion combined with high fat feed. All animals were treated with double side carotid endarterectomy after 2 months, and were randomly divided 3 groups: 0.6 T group, 1.0 T group and the blank control. The expression of platelet-derived growth factor-A were detected with immunohistochemistry 1 month, 2 months and 3 months after CEA. Results The expression of PDGF-A in treated groups were lower significantly than that in controls (P<0.05) 2 month after CEA, and it was the lowest in 1.0 T group, lower in 0.6 T group 3 month after CEA. Conclusion The pulsed magnetic field therapy can decrease the expression of PDGF-A, which might be helpful to prevent the carotid from restenosis.

Objective To observe the clinical effect of manipulation combined with physical therapy on middle-elderly knee osteoarthritis (KOA).Methods 32 KOA patients (49 knees) were treated with manual operation, such as manipulation relaxing the end of quadriceps, triceps, surae and other manipulation method for knee joint and combined with physical therapy. Results 11 cases (18 knees) were clinical curative, 16 cases (23 knees) had good effective, 5 cases (knees) had effective. The good effective rate was 84%.Conclusion Manipulation combined with physical therapy is effective on middl-elderly KOA patients.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2007;13(12):1159-1160
Objective To observe the effect of multidisciplinary rehabilitation on activity of daily living (ADL) and injured nerve function of old stroke patients. Methods 78 old stroke patients were randomly divided into the simple rehabilitation group (36 cases) and multidisciplinary rehabilitation group (42 cases). The patients of the simple rehabilitation group were treated with Bobath method only, those of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation group were added with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. The treatment course of two groups was 6 weeks. All patients in two groups were assessed with Modified Brathel Index (MBI) for ADL before treatment and every week after treatment and the evaluation of National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was also performed for injured nerve function at same times. Results After 3 weeks treatment, the scores of MBI and NIHSS of all patients improved, but there was no significant difference compared with that before treatment ( P>0.05). After 6 weeks treatment, the NIHSS scores of the patients in the multidisciplinary rehabilitation group was significant superior to that before treatment ( P<0.05), the MBI scores was also superior to that before treatment ( P<0.01); while, the NIHSS and MBI scores of the patients in the simple rehabilitation group also improved compared with that before treatment, but no significant difference ( P>0.05).Conclusion Both multidisciplinary rehabilitation and simple rehabilitation are all effect on ADL and injured nerve function of old stroke patients, but the effect of multidisciplinary rehabilitation is superior to that of simple rehabilitation (using Bobath method only).

ObjectiveTo determine the test-retest reliability of isometric muscle strength measurement for the lower limb with functional squat system (FSS) in elderly people. Methods20 elderly participants were measured the isometric muscle strength in 5 s of each lower limb with FSS, and retested a week later. The maximal voluntary contraction and the average strength of each lower limb were recorded. ResultsThe intraclass correlation coefficient were 0.77~0.88 (P<0.01). ConclusionIsometric muscle strength measurement of the lower limb with FSS shows acceptable test-retest reliability in elderly.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2003;9(5):316-317
ObjectiveTo explore the convenient and effective therapeutic methods for acute lumbar strain on the basis of classification and mechanism of acute lumbar strain.MethodsAcute lumbar strain was classified into post-lumbar joint disturbance type, post-lumbar joint embedded type, muscular strangulated type, muscular strain, sacroiliac joint malposition and mixed type. The repulsion reposition, orthodromic allocation, repulsion ilium and moving leg combioned with high electric frequence were chosen according to the patients' age and somatic condition.ResultsAfter 1-3 times curing, the symptom and appearance of the patients were obviously improved, even more recovery. In these 100 cases,52 patients were cured,39 patients were obviously improved, 9 patients were better than before, the rate of obvious effect was 91%.ConclusionsManipulation combined with high electrical frequence is a convenient, safe and effective method for acute lumbar strain.

Objective To determine the difference between two standardized grip strength test, the American Society of Hand Therapists(ASHT)recommended and the Chinese National Physical Fitness Evaluation Standard(CNPFES)recommended. Methods 32 healthy young adult,right-hand dominant subjects were measured with their grip strength under the both methods. Results The measurement of grip strength using methods the ASHT recommended was smaller than that of the CNPFES(P<0.05),for all their left and right hand. Conclusion The measures of grip strength are different between ASHT and CNPFES standard. It is important to keep the testing conditions while measuring grip strength, and ASHT is suggested.
