1.Sub-band Structure of N-doped TiO_2 Prepared by NH_3-treating of Nanotubed Titanic Acid
Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2009;37(z1):406-
A representative nitrogen doped titanium dioxide sample (denoted as N-doped TiO_2) was prepared by treating nanotubular titanic acid (H_2Ti_2O_5·H_2O,NTA in short) in flowing NH_3 at an elevated temperature of 500℃ for 4 h.The sub-band structure within Eg of N-NTA-500 was determined by means of photoluminescence (PL) spectrometry and ultraviolet-visible light-near infrared (UV-Vis-NIR)diffusion reflectance spectrometry (DRS).Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of N-NTA-500 was evaluated by performing the redox reaction of propylene under the irradiation of alternate on-and-off visible light, using commercially available P-25 titania as a comparison. It was found that a large amount of single-electron-trapped oxygen vacancies (denoted as Vo~·) formed a sub-band within the Eg of N-NTA-500,contributing to extend the optical absorption of N-doped TiO_2 into visible light region. The sub-band width, the bottom energy above the top edge of valence band, and the top energy below the bottom edge of conduction band were determined to be 0.24 eV,1.79 eV,and 0.99 eV,respectively. Results and discussion:Each of the four PL spectra at an excitation wavelength of 360-390 nm can be deconvoluted into two bands. The peak positions of the two deconvoluted PL bands for each of the four PL spectra at λ_(ex)=360-390 nm are unchanged and located at 465 nm and 570 nm,respectively, implying that they are not originated from the back band-to-band transition but the e~--h~+recombination on two surface states. The band at 465 nm represents the emission on shallow surface state (2.66 eV above valence band edge),while that band at 570 nm represents the emission on deep surface state (2.17 eV above valence band edge). Moreover, the PL peak intensity decreases with increasing excitation energy, indicating that the photogenerated energy-enriched electrons are firstly relaxed to the bottom of the conduction band and then transferred to the surface state, and the larger the value of E_(ex),the more the energy loss. Therefore,it can be concluded that the excitation at λ_(ex)≤400 nm for N-NTA-500 is dominated by band-to-band transition, while E_g of the N-doped TiO_2 is identical to that of TiO_2 (anatase),I.e.,3.1 eV at 400 nm.The emission mechanism with respect to band-to-band transition of N-NTA-500 in an excitation wavelength range of 360-390 nm is depicted.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of warm needling in treating neck-back myofasical pain syndrome. Method Sixty patients with neck-back myofasical pain syndrome were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The treatment group was intervened by warm needling therapy, while the control group was by electroacupuncture. The short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and Physion MD muscle resistance detector (Japan) were adopted to measure the count of tender points (red points and yellow points), Pain Rating Index (PRI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Present Pain Intensity (PPI) before and after the treatment, and the clinical efficacies were also compared.Result The total effective rate was 83.3% in the treatment group versus 66.7% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The SF-MPQ scores (PRI, VAS, and PPI scores) were significantly changed in the treatment group after the intervention (P<0.05). In the control group, VAS and PPI scores were significantly changed after the treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, there were significant differences in comparing the SF-MPQ scores between the two groups (P<0.05). The counts of red and yellow tender points were significantly changed in the treatment group after the intervention (P<0.05). The count of red tender points was significantly changed in the control group after the intervention (P<0.05). After the treatment, there were significant differences in comparing the number of red and yellow tender points between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Warm needling is an effective approach in treating neck-back myofascial pain syndrome.

Background and purpose:The study hasfound that tumornecrosis factor-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) can enhance the cytotoxic effect of chemotherapeutic drugs on tumor cells. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of the tumor TRAIL and cisplatin combined application on the growth and apoptosis of human ovarian cancer cell lines SKOV3 and OVCAR3, and the possible mechanism. Methods:Under the combined application of cisplatin and TRAIL, MTT method and flow cytometry were used to detect the proliferation and apoptosis of SKOV3 of OVCAR3 cells; the mRNA expression levels of death receptors, DR4 and DR5, were detected by real-time lfuorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTFQ-PCR). At the same time, the protein expression levels of DR4 and DR5 were detected by Western blot.Results:SKOV3 and OVCAR3 cells were sensitive to TRAIL protein, and with the increasing of TRAIL protein concentration, cell growth inhibitory rate up to 64%. When the
combination application of TRAIL and cisplatin, the inhibition rate of the two cells reached more than 92%, and the two drugs showed high synergistic effect, compared with the single drug group (P<0.05). Flowcytometry analysis indicated that the synergistic killing effect of TRAIL and cisplatin was mainly due to the cell apoptosis. RTFQ-PCR and Western blot detection results showed that the DR4 and DR5 were up-regulated under the combined application of TRAIL and cisplatin. Conclusion:In vitro, TRAIL and cisplatin combined application can signiifcantly inhibit the proliferation of human ovarian cancer cells and induce tumor cell apoptosis. TRAIL can obviously enhance the sensitivity of cisplatin to tumor cells. The mechanism may be related to the increased death receptor DR4 and DR5 expression level.

International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2009;31(3):218-220
The article made a study on the earliest literature and the initial time of the "Five Orbiculi" theory in TCM. By analyzing the masons for different locations of "Five Orbiculi" recorded in ancient TCM books, the author argued against that the term of "Five Orbiculi" originated from ancient India and the "Five Orbiculi" theory was a product with the combination of traditioinal Chinese and Indian cultures. The author further put forward that the "Five Orbiculi" theory most probably was a Chinese traditional medical innovation under the influence of Internal Classic of Medicine, a great development to the theory recorded in Miraculous Pivot On Serious Confusion.
