Objective No consensus has yet been achieved on the relationship of serum albumin with the functional out-come of acute ischemic stroke. The aim of our study was to determine whether the serum albumin level was associated with the short-term functional outcome of acute ischemic stroke in well-nourished patients. Methods Totally, 113 patients with first-ever acute ischemic stroke were recruited from Nanjing Stroke Registration Program between January and June 2015.Baseline data including de-mographic and body parameters, vascular risk factors, and laboratory results were collected. The NIH Stroke Scale ( NIHSS) was used to evaluate the severity of neurological deficits and the modified Rankin Scale ( mRS ) employed to assess the short-term functional outcome.According to the mRS at discharge, the patients were divided into a good outcome group ( mRS<3 ) and a poor out-come group ( mRS≥3 ) .The independent predictors of the short-term functional outcome were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results Of the 113 acute ischemic stroke patients included, 52 (46.0%) were in the good outcome group, and 61 (54.0%) in the poor outcome group. Those in the former group had a significantly higher BMI, lower serum LDL-C, lower WBC count, and lower NIHSS at admission than those in the latter .Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that low serum albumin, NIHSS at admission, and arteriole occlusion were independent predictors of the poor short-term functional outcome ( OR=0.684, 95% CI:0.490-0.956, P=0.026). Conclusion Low serum albumin is an independent predictor of poor short-term functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke patients in well-nourished status.

Microbiology 2008;0(09):-
A bacterial strain which could grow well on the substrate of PAEs as the sole source of carbon and energy was isolated from contaminated sludge in the river of WeiFang in ShangDong province and it was designated as JDC-3. Based on the morphology, biophysical and biochemical properties as well as molecular characteristics, this isolate was preliminarily identified as Delftia sp.. A fragment of phthalate dioxygenase gene was successfully amplified from the genus of Delftia for the first time using a set of degenerate primers. Meanwhile, the degradation capability of JDC-3 was determined by HPLC using DMP as test substrate. The results showed that the optimal pH and temperature were at 7.0~8.0 and 30?C~35?C respectively. The degradation kinetics of JDC-3 was studied in different initial DMP concentration under optimal conditions. The results indicated that the degradation dynamic equation was ln C =-0.06837 t + A when DMP concentration was lower than 300 mg/L,with half life of 12.48 h. The degradation rate decreased and half life of JDC-3 prolonged as the initial concentration kept on increasing.

OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in early diagnosis of breast cancer.
METHODSCEUS was performed in 107 cases of ultrasound BI-RADS(®) category 3 or category 4 small breast tumors (diameter no greater than 10 mm) before surgery. The range, type and patter of enhancement of the tumor and the surrounding tissues were observed, and the time-intensity curve (TIC) was analyzed for TIC curve type, basic and peak intensity, enhancement intensity, rising slope, and enhancement intensity. The results were analyzed comparatively between benign and malignant tumors.
RESULTSThe peak intensity, enhancement intensity index and peak time in CEUS were statistically significant between benign and malignant breast tumor (t=-2.310, -2.592, -2.127, P=0.021, 0.010, 0.033), and the intensity difference and rising slope also differed significantly (t=-3.422, -3.388, P=0.001, 0.001). TIC curve type, enhancement pattern, enhancement types and enhancement range were statistically significantly between benign and malignant breast tumor (P<0.001).
CONCLUSIONBenign and malignant BI-RADS(®) category 3 or 4 small breast tumors differ in the peak intensity, enhancement intensity index and peak time in CEUS. More nodular hyperplasia showed no enhancement in CEUS, and 97.8% of the lesions without enhancement are benign. In enhanced breast nodules, malignant breast lesions show more quick wash-in and wash-out type and quick wash-in and slow wash-out type, and the latter is more common; benign lesions often show a slow wash-in and slow wash-out type. In CEUS, the range of enhancement in malignant nodules is wider than that in two-dimensional ultrasound.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the distribution of tetracycline-arginine-glycine-aspartate-tyrosine (T-RGDY) in mice and its effect on bone.
METHODS125-labeled T-RGDY was studied for its distribution in mice and for its effects on bone by histomorphometry in ovariectomized rats.
RESULTSThe 125I-labeled T-RGDY was more concentrated in the osteoporotic bone than in the normal bone. Compared with ovariectomy group, the morphologic index such as trabecular bone volume/total tissue volume (TBV/TTV), TBV/sponge bone volume (SBV), and mean trabecular plate thickness (MTPT) in T-RGDY group significantly increased (P < 0.05). As compared with sham operation group, MTPT significantly increased in T-RGDY group (P < 0.05), while TBV/SBV and mean trabecular plate density significantly decreased (P < 0.05), and TBV/TYV and mean trabecular plate spacing were almost the same as those in sham operation group (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONT-RGDY may concentrate in bone tissue to a certain degree, which is closely related with the status of bone remodeling. T-RGDY may inhibit the bone loss caused by ovariectomy.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of Yufeining, a traditional Chinese medicine, on induced sputum interleukin-8 (IL-8) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at the stable phase.
METHODSThirty-six patients with COPD were divided into trial group (18 cases) and control group (18 cases) randomly. The trial group was treated with Yufeining pills taken orally for half a year; the control group was not given any medicine. Routine lung function was recorded before and after treatment. Total cell count (TCC), differential cell counts (DCCs) and IL-8 in induced sputum were determined at the baseline and 6 months later.
RESULTSThe indices of lung function improved significantly after 6 months' treatment in trial group (P < 0.05); TCC and absolute neutrophil count decreased significantly compared with baseline in the trial group (P < 0.05); Sputum IL-8 concentration dropped significantly after 6 months' treatment, from a mean of 5.216 +/- 2.914 microg/L to 4.222 +/- 2.140 microg/L (P < 0.05). There were insignificant changes in the parameters in the control group between baseline and 6 months later.
CONCLUSIONYufeining could improve lung function, decrease sputum TCC, absolute neutrophil count and IL-8 concentration, and relieve airway inflammation in patients with COPD in the stable phase.
