The radiographic measurement of the renal size and position provide important information of disease of thekidney and the adjacent organs. The author analyzed the 213 cases of intravenous pyelography of normal Koreanchildren from 0 to 18 years of age (135 males and 78 females) and measured the following points; the length of thekidney, the width of the kidney, the level of both hila, and the ratio of the kidney length to the total height ofupper 4 lumbar vertebral bodies plus intervertebral discs. The results were obtained as follows; 1. Above 4 yearsof age, the annual increase rate of the kidney length was 0.31cm, and that of the height of lumbar vertebrae was0.44cm in male and 0.55 cm in female; the height of lumbar vertebrae grew more rapidly than the kidney length. 2.The age group of the most rapid growth in the length and the width of the kidney was 16 to 18 years of age inmale, and 13 to 15 years of age in female, and that of the most delayed growth was 4 to 6 years of age in bothsexes. 3. The size of the left kidney was usually larger than that of the right. But, the right kidney was largerthan the left in 20% of the cases. 4. The right hilum was usually lower than that of the left. In the 12% of thecases, however, the right hilum was higher in position than the left. 5. The width of the kidney in most childrencorresponded to the 45 to 60% of the kidney length. 6. The kidney size in age group between 16 and 18 years waswithin the range of that of normal adults. 7. The ratios of the kidney length to the height of upper 4 lumbarvertebral bodies plus intrevertebral discs were as follows; > 1.1 below 3 years of age. 1±0.1 between 4 and 12 years of age. > 0.9 above 13 years of age.

A clinical and radiological study was done on 96 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax, encoutered in the Dept. ofRadiology, Busan National University Hospital during last 3 years from March. 1979 to March 1982. The results weresummarized as follows; 1. In the age distribution, the ages between 20 and 39 years were most highest, as 54 cases(56.3%). In the sex distribution, the ratio of male to female was 5:1 in male predominance. 2. The underlyingpathology of the total 96 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax were of tuberculous origin in 33.3% andnon-tuberculous origin in 66.7%. And below 20 years, most were of non-tuberculous origin. 3. In the cases of lungcollapse over 2/3, non-tuberculous origin was more than tuberculous origin and had characteristics of significantmediastinal shifting, in contrast to lower percentage of fluid level by chest radiography. 4. The rupture of blebsor bullae was the main immediate causes of spontaneous pneumothorax, independent of the underlying pathology. 5.In only 27 cases (28.1%) among total 96 cases, bullae or blebs could be detected on the chest radiography. 6. Intreatment of spontaneous pneumothorax, the closed thoracotomy with under water seal drainage is accepted to be thegeneral method of treatment. But open thoracotomy is considered as the best useful therapeutic procedure toprevent the recurrence, whenever bullae of blebs are found on the chest radiography. 7. In the cases of closedthoracotomy, the recurrent rate was 25.0% and most cases were found at the ipsilateral side of the first attack.8. Within a week, the collpased lung were well expanded in most cases of total 96 cases, after closed thoracotomy.

BACKGROUND: We have studied the 67Ga SPECT to determine the activity of pulmonary tuberculosis, especially in patients with minimal extent of the disease on chest radiographs. Because active minimal pulmonary tuberculosis is sometimes difficult to diagnose by means of initial chest X-ray, sputum examination and 67Ga planar imaging, we compared 67Ga planar imaging with SPECT to evaluate minimal pulmonary tuberculosis activity. METHODS: 67Ga planar imagings and SPECTs of 69 patients suspected of minimal pulmonary tuberculosis by the initial chest X-ray were performed and compared to each other. Active pulmonary tuberculosis was defined by a positive AFB smear and/or culture in the sputum and changes shown on the serial chest X-ray findings. RESULTS: 1)67Ga planar imaging imagings showed positive uptakes in 24 patients and no uptakes in 13 patients, which confirms active pulmonary tuberculosis. But SPECT imagings showed positive uptakes in 25 patients and no uptakes in 12 patients. 2) Patients confirmed with inactive pulmonary tuberculosis showed no up-take on 67Ga planar imaging. Only one of the 32 patients confirmed as having inactive pulmonary tuberculosis showed positive uptake on 67Ga SPECT imaging. CONCLUSIONS: According to the results of our study, 67Ga planar imaging and SPECT are both sensitive in detecting the activity of minimal pulmonary tuberculosis. The difference between the two methods is not statistically significant, and the negative predictive value of the 67Ga SPECT is not higher than that of 67Ga planar imaging.

Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health 2025;58(3):269-277
Objectives:
This study was performed to investigate the prevalence of falls, mental health issues, and health behaviors among older adults, as well as to analyze the association between multiple falls and mental health status in this population.
Methods:
We utilized data from the 2017, 2019, and 2021 Korean Community Health Survey, a nationwide survey organized by region and conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Participants were categorized into no-fall, single-fall, and multiple fall groups based on responses to an index question regarding fall experiences and the number of such incidents reported in the survey. The chi-square test was applied to understand the characteristics of the elderly population in the community. Subsequently, multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to clarify the association between falls and mental health.
Results:
Integrated data analysis revealed that 11.3% of participants experienced a single fall, while 5.7% reported multiple falls. Participants from low-education and low-income backgrounds exhibited relatively high rates of falls. Additionally, non-drinkers and non-smokers reported falls more frequently than their counterparts who consumed alcohol and smoked. Multinomial logistic regression revealed significant associations between multiple falls and mental health factors. In particular, the severity of depression was directly proportional to the likelihood of experiencing multiple falls, with an odds ratio of 2.95 (95% confidence interval, 2.49 to 3.50).
Conclusions
We identified associations between various mental health-related factors—including sleep duration, subjective stress, the presence of depression, and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 score—and the occurrence of multiple falls.

Korean Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine 1995;7(2):320-331
To find the severity and the type of the cervicobrachial syndrome, through physical examinations and laboratory tests were made toward 137 patients complaining the cervicobrachial syndrome (CBS) through the health interview among 313 workers occupied in a microwave-oven assembling factory from December 1993 to February 1994. Results were as follows. 1. The prevalence of spontaneous pain was 94.9%, while 78.1% suffered from muscle tenderness, 63.5% suffered from muscle induration and 62.0% showed kinesalgia. 54.7% of patients showed positive cervical X-ray findings and 28.5% showed positive Morley test. 2. The muscle induration was associated with the total duration of the job among female workers. 3. The severity of neck tenderness was negatively correlated with the strength of the grip at both hands, positively correlated with the duration of overtime in male and the severity of the wrist tenderness was negatively correlated with the height in female. 4. X-ray findings, muscle induration, Morley test results, muscle tenderness on the neck and muscle tenderness on the shoulder were associated with subjective symptoms of the workers.5. The muscle tenderness was associated with the number of the complaints at upper extremities among the sufferings in daily life significantly and the electromyogram (EMG) finding was associated with; the number of the complaints: about neuropsychological system among the sufferings in daily life significantly. In conclusion, the results of the physical examination were related with the subjective symptoms of the cervicobrachial syndrome. The muscle induration, the muscle tenderness, cervical X-ray findings and the Morley test results were more useful for the diagnosis of CBS. More efforts to objectify the subjective symptoms were asked.
