2.Bilateral Warthin tumor of the parotid gland: A case report.
Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2008;38(1):57-62
The Warthin tumor is a benign neoplasm that occurs mostly in the parotid gland. The tumor frequently occurs in the tail of the parotid gland. A 75-year-old man was referred to Wonkwang dental hospital with a chief complaint of swelling on the right submandibular area. Numerous salivary stones were observed in the right submandibular gland on computed tomography(CT). And the two tumorous lesions were incidentally found in the parotid gland bilaterally. The tumorous lesions showed homogeneous enhancement on the CT and intermediate signal intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images. This tumorous lesions also showed contrast enhancement on fat suppressed T1 weighted MR images. We report common CT and MR features of this case of Warthin tumor in the parotid gland with literature review.

3.Evaluation of diagnostic ability of CCD digital radiography in the detection of incipient dental caries.
Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2003;33(1):27-33
PURPOSE: The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the diagnostic ability of a CCD-based digital system (CDX-2000HQ) in the detection of incipient dental caries. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 93 extracted human teeth with sound proximal surfaces and interproximal artificial cavities were radiographed using 4 imaging methods. Automatically processed No. 2 Insight film (Eastman Kodak Co., U.S.A.) was used for conventional radiography, scanned images of conventional radiograms for indirect digital radiography were used. For the direct digital radiography, the CDX-2000HQ CCD system (Biomedisys Co. Korea) was used. The subtraction images were made from two direct digital images by Sunny program in the CDX-2000HQ system. Two radiologists and three endodontists examined the presence of lesions using a five-point confidence scale and compared the diagnostic ability by ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) analysis and one way ANOVA test. RESULTS: The mean ROC areas of conventional radiography, indirect digital radiography, direct digital radiography, and digital subtraction radiography were 0.9093, 0.9102, 0.9184, and 0.9056, respectively. The diagnostic ability of direct digital radiography was better than the other imaging modalities, but there were no statistical differences among these imaging modalities (p> 0.05). CONCLUSION: These results indicate that new CCD-based digital systems (CDX-2000HQ) have the potential to serve as an alternative to conventional radiography in the detection of incipient dental caries.

Embolization of a carotid cavernous fistula(CCF) by means of a detachable balloon is a well-established method for treating CCFs while preserving a patent parent internal carotid artery(ICA). However, failure to embolize the CCF may occur on a few occasions. Herein we describe a stent-assisted Guglielmi detachable coil embolization that completely occludes the fistulous opening rather than fills the cavernous sinus. By applying this technique, we successfully treated a CCF, without compromise of the parent ICA in patients who has failed with balloon technique previously.

7.The Roles of Glycated Albumin as Intermediate Glycation Index and Pathogenic Protein.
Kwang Joon KIM ; Byung Wan LEE
Diabetes & Metabolism Journal 2012;36(2):98-107
The conventional glycemic indices used in management of diabetic patients includes A1c, fructosamine, 1,5-anhydroglucitol, and glycated albumin (GA). Among these indices, A1c is currently used as the gold standard. However, A1c cannot reflect the glycemic change over a relatively short period of time, and its accuracy is known to decrease when abnormalities in hemoglobin metabolism, such as anemia, coexist. When considering these weaknesses, there have been needs for finding a novel glycemic index for diagnosing and managing diabetes, as well as for predicting diabetic complications properly. Recently, several studies have suggested the potential of GA as an intermediate-term glycation index in covering the short-term effect of treatment. Furthermore, its role as a pathogenic protein affecting the worsening of diabetes and occurrence of diabetic complications is receiving attention as well. Therefore, in this article, we wanted to review the recent status of GA as a glycemic index and as a pathogenic protein.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1983;19(1):78-87
Plain chest films are the most useful modality in diagnosis of primary lung cancer, but it is difficult tointerpret the radiologic findings by histological types. Authors reviewed chest films of 324 cases ofhistologically confirmed primary lung cancer from Jan. 1974 to April 1982 at Seoul National University. The resulsare as follows; 1. Incidence was most common in the 6th decade as 34.4%. Male to female sex ratio was 3.8:1 andthere was no sex difference in Adenocarcinoma. 2. Distrubution of histologic types of primary lung cancer asfollows; Squamous cell Carcinoma 50.6%, Small Cell Carcinoma 22.5% lange Cell Carcinoma 9.3% Bronchegenic adenocaranoma 10.5% Bronchioloalveolar Cell Carcinoma 1.9%. Adenosquamos Carcinoma 0,6%, Carcinoid Tumor 0.3%, AdenoidCystic Carcinoma 0.3%. 3. Radiologic findings by histologic types as follows; a) Squamous cell carcinoma commonlypresent as collapse(51.8%) peripheral mass (40.8%), pneumonitis(37.2%), hilar involvement(34.8%), and in singleabnormality, peripheral mass (44.4%). b) Small cell carcinoma commonly present as hilar involvement(78.1%),mediastinal wideing or mass (53.4%) and in single abnormality, hilar involvement(58.3%). c) Large cell carciomacommonly present as hilar involvement(50%) pneumonia(46.7%), collapse (40%), peripheral mass(36.7%) and in singleabnormality, large peripheral mass (33.3%). d) Bronchogenic Adenocarcinoma commonly present as peripheralmass(44.1%), collapse (41.2%), pleural effusion (35.2%) and in single abnormality, peripheral mass(50%). e)Solitary peripheral mass commonly present as lobulation(48%) and spiculated margin (51%), but no specific findingsby histologic types. Cavitary formation was most common in Squamous cell carcinoma.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1986;22(5):794-800
The authors analysed retrospectively 56 cases of bile duct cancer, which were confirmed by histologically in47 cases and highly suuspected by clinically and radiologically in 9 cases. The resutls were as follows: 1. Themost prevalent age groups were 5th decade and a male to female ratio is 2.7:1. 2. The location of bile ductcarcinomas were common bile duct in 36%, common hepatic duct in 25%, junction in 13%, porta haptis in 11% anddiffuse involvement in 5%. 3. The accuracy of predicting obstruction is by ultrasonography was 76%. 4. Correctdiagnosis as bile duct carcinoma was made in 29 cases(43%). 5. The echogenicity of bile duct carcinoma compare toliver parenchyme was hyperechoic in 10 cases(34.5%), isoechoic in 14 cases(48.3%) and hypoechoic in 5cases(17.2%). 6. Posterior acoustic shadowing was seen in 5 cases. 7. The shape of obstruction site was abruptcut-off in 12 cases(41%), funnel shape in 7 cases(24%) and indistinct in 10 cases(35%).

10.Summary of the American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes 2016.
Journal of Korean Diabetes 2016;17(2):79-82
Since 2005, the American Diabetes Association has published the annual Clinical Practice Recommendations, which include the "Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes." This publication has been recognized as one of the primary references for medical care in diabetes. In this paper, I provide a summary of the "Executive Summary on Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes-2016" in Korean. This Korean version of the executive summary will be a good reference for daily clinical practice of diabetes care.
