The authors attempted a clinical study on 45 patients of the Pathologic fracture treated at Orthopedic Department, the National Medical Center in the period of 1959 through 1969. Sixty eight established pathologic fractures in 45 patients were analsyed and classified, namey 21 Osteomyelitis, 15 Bone tumors, 3 Osteogenesis Imperfecta and etc. Treatment was variably selected according to the underlying diseases and type of fractures. Special consideration and review of literatures for the different circumstances of pathologic fractures were empirically depicted.

Three cases of Volkmann's ischemic contracture in the lower extremity, which is relatively rare manifestation, are reported, One case has occurred as a complication of snake-bite, another was followed by CO intoxication and the third was caused by a direct trauma, which gave a rupture of the main artery in the thigh. The common clinical manifestation were deformity of the foot as equinus, equinovarus and cavus deformities. One case had an additional flexion contracture of the knee. One case was opearted by Achilles tendon lengthening, posterior capsulotomy of the ankle, and plantar fasciotomy, another case was operated by supracondylar osteotomy of the femur in order to correct flexion deformity of the knee followed by B-K amputation, the third was operated by triple arthrodesis of the foot with dorsal wedging.

The authors studied anxiety, using Zung's self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), in the subjects of 127 male and 38 female patients with anxiety disorder. The authors investigated 165 patients in Yeungnam university hospital from January, 1987 to June, 1991. In order to analyze the data on anxiety scores Pearson's product moment coefficient correlation method and factor analysis were carried out by SPSS/PC+ program. The results were as follows: There was significant difference in the mean averages of total anxiety scores among patients with anxiety disorder and male and female college freshmen: patients with anxiety disorder scored 42.40±7.74, male students scored 32.91±5.70, female students scored 34.48±6.00. The anxiety scores relating to the items of body aches & pains, fatigue, anxiousness, panic and urinary frequency were relatively high in patients with anxiety disorder. The anxiety scores on the items of restlessness, apprehension, dyspnea, sweating, and insomnia were relatively low in patients with anxiety disorder. Twenty-nine anxiety disorder group (17.5%) showed significantly high anxiety scores of 50 or over. The inter-rater reliability of Zung's self-rating anxiety scale was 0.71.

The common bile duct and the duct of Wirsung cojoin at the level of the duodenum, forming the major. papilla of Vater. Existence of a double major papilla, i.e., two neighboring independent papillary structure:, is infrequent. In our endoscopy unit we have experienced one case of double papilla of Vater wherein canulation of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct could be accom plished through either orifice independently.

This study was performed in order to explore the immunologic relationship between the skin lesions induced by the human serum and the lymphatic organs. For these purposes, the authors induced the dermatitis in the rabbits by the injections of pooled human serum with Freunds complete adjuvant into the skin, and administered prednisolone and azathioprine as immunosuppressive drugs to the rabbits. Immunologic asmy was performed by the measurement of the plasma ceIls and immunogobulin-bearing B lymphocytes in lymph node and spleen. The results were as follows: 1. By the injections of human serum pyroninophilic cells and immunoglobulining B lymphocytes in lymph node and spleen were increased. 2. By the administrations of prednisolone and azathioprine, pyroninophilic cells and immunoglobulin-bearing B lymphocytes in lymph node and spleen were all decre RSCd.

The knee is a weight-bearing joint which is subjected to a great variety of static and dynamic loads. The comminuted fracture of the knee is caused by severe violent trauma, which requires well planned therapeutic procedures because of restoration of joint surface and avoidence of subsequent joint stiffness. authores have experienced 8 cases of various types of comminuted fractures of the knees at the department of orthopedic surgery, The National Medical Center, during the years from 1967 to 1972 They were analized and concluded as following. 1. The mode of the injury was considerably higher in falling type of trauma as 4 out of 8 cases Type III of comminuted fracture of the tibial plateau had higher incidence, 4 out of 5 cases and Grade III type of comminuted fracture of the femoral condyle was 2 out of 3 cases 2. 2 cases out of 8 had complicated injuries, such as peroneal nerve injuries in the Type III of comminuted fracture of the tibial condyle and meniscus injury in 1 case. 3. Conservative treatment was given to 2 cases in 1 of Group 1 and 1 of Group III type of comminuted fracture of femoral condyle, and open reduction & internal fixation was given to 6 cases with satisfactory result in all cases Average healing time was 73.5 days. 4. 1 case was complicated after operation by superficial wound infection but healed up without difficulty.
