1.The effect of long-term corticosterild treatment on height velocity in childhood.
Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1993;36(2):185-194
The auther analysed 29 patients who were treated with prednisolone, including nephrotic syndrome (13 cases), acute leukemia(10 cases), bronchial asthma (2 cases), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (2 cases) and ulcerative colitis (1 cases) patients in childhood, after remission induction, pro9longed alternate or interrupted treatment was used. The auther observed patterns of height velocity of these patients from 1.6 to 10.3 years. The results were as follow 1) Of the total 29 patients who were treated with prednisolone, most of them showed normal height velocity within the percentile channels, but 4 cases (13.8%) of them showed delay in height velocity. 2) The 4 cases who delayed in height velocity, including 2 cases of bronchial asthma and 2 cases of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis patients, received prednisolone daily about 0.4~1.5mg/kg from 3 to 6 years alternatively or interruptedly. Height velocity was decreased from bet ween 3 and 25 percentile channel at first to below 3 percentile channel at last contiously. 3) In these 4 cases, height velocity was inversely proportion to dosage of prednisolone.

2.Clinical Significance of DNA Ploidy in Epithelial Ovarian Malignancy.
Byung Young LEE ; Hyun Chan KIM
Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1996;7(4):283-290
Prognosis and biologic behavior of malignant ovarian tumors have been assessed by clinical staging, morphological grading and many other variables. Recently DNA ploidy measured by flow cytometry has been suggested as an additional important indicator of the tumor behavior and prognosis. The author measured DNA ploidy, S-phase fraction and DNA Index in 36 patients of epithelial ovarian tumors(17 were malignant, and 19 were borderline) by flow cytometric analysis of paraffin embedded tumor blocks. Comparing with FIGO stage, tumor grade, histologic type and others, the author investigated the clinical significance of the results of flow cytometric analysis. Korean Journal of Urology 1982;23(8):1191-1193
Herein we report an experience of the vaginal ureterolithotomy. The patient was a 48-year-old woman with a juxtavesical left ureteral stone, which was vaginally palpable. Although this operation has limited indications, it is a safe and easy method of removing stones from the lowermost ureter especially in the women. This method seems to have considerable value to be attempted in the carefully select patients.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 1999;42(2):307-320
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this survey is to introduce the recent adolescent sexuality, such as the level of sexual knowledge of adolescent, their actual state for the attitudes and behaviors toward sex, and in Korea in comparison with the past and to seek the answers to the improvement of the teproductive health statos of the adolescents. METHOD: The total number of 11,433 girls was drawn fiom middle and high schools girls in Seoul, Pusan, Incheon, Kwangju, Taegu, Taejeon and Ansan. Among them, the number of 82 girls was drawn fiom factory workers in Ansan. For the data collection, the survey was conducted during the period fiom Feb 15, 1994 to May 23, 1995 by using prepared questionaire. RESULT: Of those who respond to this study, 37.6% had sexual problems, which was that of acquaintance of the opposite sex(44.7%), menstruation(33.1%), and sexual maturity(13.1%). Among them, only 5.5% had a feeling of satisfaction about sex education. In regard to the attitude toward the friendly relationsbip with the oppasite sex, the approval rate respondents was 80.4%. Many respondents felt chastity and a virtue, but only 60.1% answered that pemarital chastity should be kept. For the each age group, age at sexual intercourse is revealed that among the respondents about 31.5% are experienced sexual intercourse for under 14 yearss old group, 25.3% for 15 years old, 26.3% for 16 years old, 12.6% for 17 years old, 3.3% for 18 years old, 1.0% for 19 years old. The major information source of knowledge source was school(38.4%), mass-media such as TV/radio(22.6%), book and magazine(19.9%), friends(16.2%), and parents (1.5%). CONCLUSION: In order to cope with the problems of adolescent sexuality, a drastic and strong policy measures should be taken by the government. At the same time, the public should be aware of the urgency of adolescent sexual problems. The most effective countermeasures appear to be education. Sexual education is necessary for the youth that they should bave an adequate sexual knowledge, attitudes and behaviors in their adolescent period.

10.Intraocular Pressure After Cataract Extraction in Silicone tube Implanted Glaucomatous eye.
Hye Rim CHO ; Chan Ju LEE ; Byung Chae CHO
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1991;32(9):789-794
The functioning filtering bleb constructed after trabeculectomy in glaucomatous patient might be fail after cataract operation probably due to transient collapse during cataract extraction and inflammatiry reaction of the filtering bleb which result in unsuccessful intraocular pressure control. To compare if the results were identical in cases with the use of encircling band to enlarge the aqueous absorbing scar tissue to trabeculectomy, intraocular pressure was followed for more than 6 months after cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation in 7 eyes that previously underwent silicone tube insertion with the use of encircling band. There were no cases with increased intraocular pressure needed to control postoperatively. Therefore it could be possible to concluded that inflammatory reaction of the filtering bleb or transient collapse during cataract extraction has no negative influences on intraocular pressure in silicone tube implanted eye using encircling band.
