5.Clinical, radiographic, and histological findings of florid cemento-osseous dysplasia: a case report.

Cemento-osseous dysplasias are a group of disorders known to originate from periodontal ligament tissue and involve, essentially, the same pathological process. They are usually classified into three main groups: periapical, florid, and focal cemental dysplasias depending on their extent and radiographic appearances. Radiographically, florid cementoosseous dysplasia (FCOD) appears as dense, lobulated masses, often symmetrically located in various regions of the jaws. The best management for the asymptomatic FCOD patient consists of regular recall examinations with prophylaxis. The management of the symptomatic patient is more difficult. A case of FCOD occurring in a 52-year-old edentulous Korean female is reported which is rare with regard to race and sex.

6.Distribution of IL-4, IL-8 and GM-CSF in Nasal Turbinate Mucosa Following Sulfur Dioxide Exposure In Vitro.

There is increasing evidence that airway epithelial cells, when exposed to various gas-derived air pollutants, play an important role in airway inflammation by releasing inflammatory cytokines. However, there is little information on air pollutant-induced cytokine expression at the tissue level and on the role of sulfur dioxide (SO2), one of the major ambient air pollutants, in cytokine production. We studied whether or not a low concentration of sulfur dioxide induces an increase in tissue expression of interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and granulocyte/macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF). After exposing surgically obtained normal human nasal turbinates to 0.05 ppm SO2 for one hour, we conducted specific immunohistochemical staining to assess the tissue expression of each cytokine. We found that the percent expression of IL-8 and GM-CSF in the surface epithelium was significantly higher in each SO2-exposed tissue than in the matched control tissue. However, there was no significant difference in the number of submucosal IL-4-positive cells between exposed and control specimens. These results suggest that exposure to a low concentration of SO2 increases airway inflammation, apparently by inducing an increase in the expression of GM-CSF and IL-8.

7.A comparison between the right side and the left side of head skin in a patient who received more than 450 sessions of left stellate ganglion block: A case report.

Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is an effective method that is used by pain clinicians to treat patients who have pain in the head, neck and arm area. SGB acts mainly by increasing regional blood flow via peripheral vasodilation and decreasing pain sensation by reducing the afferent sensory signals of the sympathetic nervous system in the region. This patient had received more than 450 sessions of left SGB continually for the past 6 years to relieve her left-sided facial pain caused by facial trauma. Out of our curiosity, we tried to obtain some objective dermatological measurements like skin elasticity, water content, and hair follicle density on her scalp and we found that the values were different between the left side of her face and the right side of her face. Here, we report the results and we want pain clinicians to know that repeated SGBs may improve skin elasticity, water content in the skin, and increase the number of hair follicles on the scalp.

Symptoms include decreased alertness, disorientation, speech disturbance, agitation, difficulty in recognizing family and familiar locations, and amnesia. Patients mainly visit to emergency department due to acute mental problems. But there are no specific findings in neuroradiologic examinations and laboratory tests in ACM patients. And ACM is not widely known disease to physicians. So it takes long time to exclude other disorders and dysfunctions until to reach the diagnosis. Patient’s history of migraine, family history, and spontaneous relief of symptoms after deep sleep without medication can be helpful in diagnosis. We experienced a rare case of ACM of 13-year-old male patient, therefore we report the case with literature review.
