The common sites of solitary bone cyst(SBC) are humerus, femur and less common sites are tibia, calcaneus, ilium, fibula, radius and ulna. Ischium rib, scapula, spine, clavicle and patella are rare sites of solitary bone cyst. As mentioned above, SBC of patella is very rare and on view of literatures we could find only one reported case which was treated by patellectomy. We also experienced one case of SBC located at patella, so we report this case with review of literatures.

5.Issues of Disability Evaluation: Difficulties, Inappropriateness and Proposals.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2009;52(6):558-566
The issues concerning the disability evaluating system in Korea are controversial to say the least. Evaluating systems are so complicated that they continually cause confusion to medical examiners even though they must evaluate patient's medical status accurately, objectively and reasonably to provide adequate compensation for patients. However, controlling associations or educating curricula for disability evaluation are not in place. This study investigates the impending problems of disability evaluation in Korea and discussed what should be done to improve the situations. Social environments, evaluating standards, examiners' capability and education are reviewed in an effort to present an adequate proposals to Korean medical examiners.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 2001;36(5):489-491
Sparganosis is caused by tapeworm larva of the genus Spirometra, which commonly invades the subcutaneous tissue, and less frequently invades the abdominal wall, intestine, muscle, thorax, breast, eye, brain, spinal cord etc. We experienced a rare case of living sparganosis, which was found in the flexor muscle of the distal forearm. Ultrasonography was helpful in the diagnosis of sparganosis

Interlocking medullary nails have been widely used in the treatment of long bone fractures especially in tibia and femur. But with increasing use of nails, many preoperative, intra-operative and post-operative complications have been reported. We have experienced 3 cases of very rare complication, fracture of tibia shaft which occurred during removal of interlocking medullary nail after complete healing of original tibial fracture. We report these rare complications with literature review.

In orthopedic practice, patients sometimes ask certain kinds of medical documents certifying their disability grading. But many orthopedic surgeons are not accustomed to issue such medical certificates. So we want to review the way of evaluation and grading of disabilities for such different kinds of medical certificates(for examples: disability grading certificate for use in traffic accident, industrial accident, liability of national compensation, private insurance, the handicapped, military service and others) and compare the differences between them.

10.Is Suction Drainage Necessary after Total Knee Arthroplasty?.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 2004;39(2):186-191
PURPOSE: To assess the effectiveness of suction drainage following total knee arthroplasty in terms of blood-saving and local complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 67 patients who underwent primary total knee arthroplasty were evaluated. There were 35 drained and 32 undrained total knee arthroplasties. The total amount of blood loss and transfused were calculated in each patient. Any local or systemic complications were recorded. RESULTS: No significant difference was noted between drained and undrained total knee arthroplasties regarding; wound healing, recovery of knee motion, or associated local or systemic complications. However, blood loss (1078 cc versus 298 cc) and transfusion amounts (2.8 unit versus 0.6 unit) were significantly higher in the drained group than in the undrained group. CONCLUSION: Following primary total knee arthroplasty, a lack of drainage did not cause significant wound healing problems, but it reduced blood loss and transfusion requirements. Wound drainage following total knee arthroplasty has been a tradition, but this study shows no benefits from a postoperative drainage system in primary total knee arthroplasty.
