103 out of 324 patient with bone marrow biopsy are bone marrow failure. Among them, have fatty feature. Osteo-and sclerosis features are only a little number. 4 other patients were detected as metastatic cancer by bone marrow biopsy before other method detection. Malignant hematopoiectic diseases are seen commonly and polymorphism. Many of them could not be diagnosed exactly if only myelogram but not bone marrow biopsy. In addition, 17 others seen to be normal in history although something suspected in clinic. In conclusion, bone marrow biopsy gives high value in diagnosis of hematopoiesis as well as common internal diseases. it should also review again on real in dication for this technique how to be in time to patient treatment and better than in aspect of economy and little more trouble to patient.

OBJECTIVETo explore the bone marrow feature of hemopoietic system injured by benzene through analyzing 56 benzolism cases.

METHODSThe 56 benzolism cases were divided into mild poisoning group, midrange poisoning group, aplastic anemia group, pancytopenia group and leukemia group. All cases progressed bone marrow aspiration and smear, and counted hundred karyocytes by Wright-Giemsa tinct bone marrow smear to classification and observe the cells' feature.

RESULTSThe megakaryocytes and the extent of bone marrow hyperplasia were decreased by turns of mild poisoning group, midrange poisoning group and aplastic anemia group. The archaeocytes and juvenile cells proliferation in mild poisoning group and midrange poisoning group were inhibited and occurred cell paramorphia which related to intoxication. Comparing with the other groups and normal reference value, the pancytopenia group's percentage of bone marrow cells in karyocytes was significantly decreased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05) and the leukemia group's percentage of bone marrow cells in karyocytes was significantly increased (P < 0.01). The proportion of cell paramorphia and nucleus malformation of granulocytes and red blood cells in pancytopenia group and leukemia group were increased, especially in leukemia group.

CONCLUSIONWe saw the inhibition of archaeocytes and juvenile cells proliferation and some cell paramorphia appearances in mild poisoning and midrange poisoning cases of chronic benzolism. The abnormality changes which can be seen in bone marrow of severe benzolism cases were corresponding with the clinical classification.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of cytogenetic analysis in the detection of bone marrow (BM) involvement in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).

METHODSThe bone marrow samples of 74 patients with NHL were detection by using morphology, cytogenetic test, flow cytometry and molecular biological assay. The detected results of morphology, cytogenetic test, flow cytometry and molecular biological assay alone and thier combined detection were compared, the detective rate and consistencies of the 4 methods were analyzed.

RESULTSThe detection rates of BM involvement by using morphology, cytogenetic, flow cytometry, and molecular biological assays were 21.6%, 17.6%, 23.0% and 33.8% respectively. The detective rate was enhanced to 44.6% by combining the 4 methods. Cytogenetic test showed the result consistent with the other methods.

CONCLUSIONAlthough cytogenetic test shows a lower detective rate than the other methods, but in some patients the cytogenetic test can detect the abnormality of bone marrow which can not be detected by other methods alone, the combination test of 4 detection methods can enhance the detectable rate of BM involvement.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of contrast enhancement of normal bone marrow in L-spine relating to aging and to determine the range of contrast enhancement in normal bone marrow. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analyzed a total of 120 patients (20 per decade) who had undergone lumbar spinal MRI and who ranged in age from the 2nd decade to more than the 7th. Bone marrow revealed no abonormal pathology. Sagittal T1-weighted spin echo sequences were obtained before and after gadolinium administration. For each sequence, a region of interest was drawn within the L1 vertebral body from the midsagittal slice. Signal intensity (SI) values of each sequence were ascertained and the percentage increase in SI was calculated . RESULTS: After contrast enhancement, lumbar MRI revealed no statistically significant in the percentage increase in SI of normal bone marrow in relation to aging. Most patients (99 %) however showed an SI increase of between 10 % and 49 %. In only four, none of whom were aged over 40, was this increase above 50%. CONCLUSION: Lumbar MRI, revealed no statistically significant difference in percentage increase in SI in normal bone marrow relating to aging, but when the increase is above 50 % in a patient aged over 40, bone marrow pathology should be further investigated.
