3.The Maturation of Circulating Primitive Erythroblasts in Human Embryos. A Karyometrical Study.

The primitive erythroblasts in 21 cases of embryonic hearts from 4 to 9 weeks of gestation were studied with a light microscope. The nuclear diameter, the motosis, and the loss of nuclei of the primitive erythoblasts were analyzed quantitatively. The results obtained were as follows. 1. At 4 weeks of gestation, the blood cells consisted of proerythroblasts, along with basophilic polychromatophilic primitive erythroblasts. The nuclear diameter ranged from 3.20 µm to 9.20 µm, but the main range was from 4.20 µm to 6.00 µm. It was revealed that 9.50% had diameter of more than 6 µm. 2. At the fist half of the 7 week gestation when hepatic hemopoiesis developed, the blood cells consisted of basophilic, polychromatophilic, and eosinophilic erythroblasts. Cells of more than 6 µm in nuclear diameter were about 1.10% and thereafter gradually disappeared. The range of the nuclear diameters was from 2.60 µm to 7.00 µm, while a range from 3.40 µm to 5.20 µm wqs the main. The proportion of cells less than 4 µm in nuclear diameter was 39.58% and thereafter rapidly increased. 3. From the second half of 7 weeks to 9 weeks of gestation, the erythrocytes originating from hepatic hemopoiesis increasingly replaced the circulating primitive erythroblasts, which became mature during this time. The erythrocytes showed 72.88% at 9 weeks of gestation. The proportions of cells less than 4 µm in nuclear diameter in the first and second haIves of 8 weeks and 9 weeks were 52.73%, 80.02%, and 89.09%, which represented the rapid destruction of nuclei. 4. Mitosis in the primitive erythroblasts occurred principally up to the early 6th weeks, and very weakly at 8 weeks. 5. As the crown-rump length increased, the average nuclear diameter decreased very significantly (P<0.01, y=-0.2811X + 0.3171). The results suggest that distrilbution of the nuclear diameter, the maturity, the rate of nuclear loss, and the mitotic figure offer credible data for estimating embryonic age.

4.Diagnostic Value of Computed Tomography in Acetabular Fracture.

We retrospectively analyzed 22 patients pelvic CT, in whom the acetabular fracture were suspected in plain film. And compared and analyzed the computed tomogram findings and plain radiographic findings. The results were as follows. CT enables better evaluation of shape, extent, and degree of separation of fragment. CT was helpful in detecting the combined fracture and soft tissue injuries. CT showed intraarticular loose bodies, which were invisible on plain film. In patients with pelvic trauma, no necessary changing position during CT examination. CT was useful demonstrates the remnant of intraarticular osseous fragment and adequacy of reduction after surgery.

7.Congenital Synovial Sarcoma in Ankle: Report of A Case

Synovial sarcoma is a highly malignant tumor which arises from synovial tissue derived from mesothelium and its occurrence is very rare. Furthermore, congenital synovial sarcoma which developed from aggressive deposition of tumor cells during intra-uterine fetal life is extremely rare. Authors present a case of congenital synovial sarcoma which is found in the right ankle of one month old boy, because of its rarity of occurrence.

9.Granular Corneal Dystrophy.

Granular corneal dystrophy is characterized by the presence of milk-white spots in the superficial stroma typically lying underneath Bowman's membrane in the axial region of the cornea. This corneal dystrophy was first described by Groenouw in 1890. Since then, not only this dystrophy but also many other types of familial corneal dystrophies have been described. In 1938 Bucklers classified the corneal dystrophy into three types; granular, lattice and macular corneal dystropy. Granular corneal dystrophy was inherited as an autosomal dominant characteristics. It begins in the first decade of life becoming obious at about the age of puberty. The early leasions are small, discrete, grayish-white spots in the superficial stroma of both corneas, and as the condition advances, the lesions are more evident and of various sizes and shapes. This opacities are confined mostly to the axial portion of the cornea. There is no decrease in coreal sensitivity nor any vascularization. Gradually the opacities enlarge, thicken and coalesce into irregular granules hooks, rings and streaks of whitish color and glassy structure. The progress of the disease is usually slow, and moderately good vision often remains in the fourth or fifth decade. The main histopathologic feature is the deposition of a hyalin-like material in the corneal stroma. When the opacification or the irritative epis:xles become disabling, corneal grafting may be indicated. The cases reported here are granu'lar dystrophies which involved four daughters of one family.

10.Statistical and mycologic studies on dandruff.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggested that Pityrosporum may play an important role in the pathogenesis of dandruff. OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to study the statistical and mycobgic findings of dandruff in normal subjects for better understanding of this condition. MEHTODS: Scales frorn the scalp of 384 students were studied stastistically by answer sheets and clinically by a dermatologist. Mycologic studies of Pityrosporum were also performed by direct smear, culture and inoculation to guinea pigs. RESULTS: There were 76.0% subjects with dandruff. Clinically grading the subjects by Kligrnan's scale, grade III and IV(mild caling) were the most. Dandruff developed commonly at the age of 14 to 16, and no seasonal change was observed. Spores of Pityrosporum were observed in all subjects by KOH microscopic examination with Cohens method, and the grading of the dandruff was not related with the number of the spores. In most subjects, P. orbiculare and P. ovae were found together. Positive culture colonies were observed in 93.7%. Inoculation of the cultured colonies to guinea pigs resulted in an experimental dermatitis. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that Pityrosporum may involve in the pathogenesis of dandruff; however, it is still unclear whether Pityrosporum is a main causative agent of dandruff.
