Introduction: The internet revolution raised a new type of addiction, which is social media addiction. Social media advertisements are mostly targeting women. Therefore, the excessive use of social networking sites could influence females’ body image perception. However, obesity can either be a risk factor or a cause of negative body image. The aims of this study were to assess perceived body image and social media addiction among Princess Nourah University students and to determine the association between them. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of 307 female students at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University at KSA using a multistage systematic random sampling technique whereas every 9th student was included if she is eligible. Data collected through survey includes socio-demographic characteristics, social media addiction scale adapted from Young K. Internet Addiction Test (IAT), body image questionnaire in addition to measuring their weight and height. Results: The findings revealed that 73% of the study participants perceived negative body image and 50.1% of them were moderately addicted to social media. On assessing the association using chi-square test, body image and social media addiction was not significantly associated (p=022). While on assessing the association between social media addiction and BMI, they were significantly associated (p=0.001). Conclusion: A statistically significant association was found between social media addiction and BMI. No significant association was found between body image and social media addiction. Thus it is recommended that future research try to investigate the main cause for social media addiction and identify the ways to avoid its potential negative consequences.

PURPOSE: This study was to analyze the relationship the physical disability, cognitive disorder and body image. METHOD: The research was a descriptive relationship study. A sample is composed of 101 hospitalized stroke patients. Data were collected from November, 2005 to December, 2005. The survey instruments used in the study Sharon and Glen's physical disability scale, Lim's cognitive disorder scale and Osgood's body image scale. The collected data were analyzed frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearsons' correlation coefficients. RESULT: The level of physical disability the score was 2.26, cognitive disorder 1.84 and body image 3.54. and they were relation to significant correlation. The body image showed significant negative correlation with physical disability, cognitive disorder. Physical disability showed significant positive correlation with cognitive disorder(r=.639, p=.000), and significant negative correlation with body image(r=-.420, p=.000). Cognitive disorder showed significant negative correlation with body image(r=-.620, p=.000). There were significant differences of body image by general characteristics as follows: age(p=.000), occupation(p=.004), education(p=.008), disease(p=.007). monthly income(p=.006), burden of medical expenses(p=.001), duration of stroke(p=.008). CONCLUSION: There was a significant correlation between physical disability, cognitive disorder and body image. there will be considered useful nursing intervention effect to physical disability, cognitive disorder and body image of stroke patients.

Background: The increasing body image dissatisfaction and disordered eating attitudes among adolescents have become a public health concern globally. Detection and prompt intervention could save adolescents from physiological and psychological health problems. Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the body image and eating behavior among senior high school students at Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria enrolled in the school year 2020- 2021 and if there is any relationship between their eating behaviors and body image. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on August 2020 to July 2021 at Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria in Dumaguete City. The study utilized the questionnaires: Eating Attitude Test- 26 (EAT-26) in identifying the risk for eating disorders and the Stunkard Scale for the assessment of body image. The participants of the study were Grade 11 & 12 Senior high school students enrolled in the school year 2020-2021. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation were calculated for each variable (age, sex, height and weight). The Spearman’s rank-order correlation was used to analyze the data in determining any relationship between the body image and eating behaviors of the participants. Result: Body dissatisfaction was noted in a portion of female respondents. EAT-26 was considered positive and confirmed the presence of eating attitudes that were associated with risks for the development of eating behavior disorders in 55% of the sample population. A positive correlation between EAT-26 scores and the body image was also observed among female respondents. Conclusion The results indicate that attention must be given to eating behavior risks within this group.

Recently, medical image processing systems which take advantages of computer information technology have been used usefully in the hospitals. In particular, the 3D volume rendering technique with a sets of 2D medical images can visualize the organs of human body into 3D image virtually and such systems have started to be used widely to find diseases and to build up the plan of treatment. In this paper, we introduce a medical image processing system which uses a public graphic library VTK so that the system can be developed in the low price with the same power compared to other commercial systems. The system supports 2D and 3D image processing such as image editing, filtering, 3D image reconstruction and etc. by accepting multiple 2D original medical images.

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among pereption of obesity, experience of weight control control and satisfaction with body image in adolescence. The subjects were 221 high school students(91 boys, 130 grils), aged 16.7 years living in a rural area. To determine the perception of obesity, knowledge about obesity, belidfs about obese people, and attitudes towards obese people were measured. The results were as follows: There was high correlation between beliefs about obese people and attitudes toward obese people. When the perception of obesity was compared by sex, girls had significantly more accurate knowledge, stronger beliefs that obesity couldn't be controlled by oneself, the higher the eating disturbance score was. It also appeared that BMI was positively correlated with the positive attitude towards obese people.

PURPOSE: This study was designed to analyze the correlation on body image, self-esteem and self-efficacy of Female Students in College. METHOD: The research population included convenience sample of 696 subjects composed of Female Students in College. Data collection was done from July, 2002 to October, 2002 using a written inquiry. The data were analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULT: The results of this study were as follows: 1. The relationship among body image, self-esteem and self-efficacy were found to have statistically significant positive correlations. 2. The difference of body image, self-esteem and self-efficacy according to the characteristics in subjects were found to have statistically significancy of grade, age, personality and degree of adaptation. The difference of body image according to the monthly income of the family was found to be statistically significant. CONCLUSION: There is a significant correlation between grade, age, personality, and monthly income. Further study needs to be done to validate this study and develop degrees of adaptation to improve body image, self-esteem and self-efficacy.

The aim was to determine the differences in parents' perceptions of boys' and girls' body shapes and the explanations for the emphasis on body shape care of children. Subjects were low-income parents (n = 158) of preschoolers attending preschools in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Parental perceptions of children's body shapes were assessed based on their rankings (scale of 1 to 7) of four attributes (ideal, healthy, fat and thin) for boy and girl figures. Parental responses to five questions on the importance of body shape were also obtained. Parental rankings of ideal and healthy body shapes were significantly lower for girls than boys (p < 0.001). However, mothers' and fathers' rankings of boys' and girls' body shapes were not significantly different. for both boys and girls, parental ratings for ideal body shape were significantly lower than for healthy body shape (p < 0.001). The majority of parents indicated that children's body shape is important for their future health, self enhancement, social interaction and career. With the increasing prevalence of body dissatisfaction among Malaysian children, these findings contribute to the understanding of parental roles in the development of body image and perhaps, in the etiology of body dissatisfaction among children.

INTRODUCTION: The Philippines tops globally for time spent on social media. This study aimed to explore the association between social media addiction, body image, and social comparison among young adult Filipino women aged 18-25 years old in Metro Manila. METHODS: The Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS), Body Image Questionnaire (BIQ), and Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) were used to assess social media addiction, body image, and social comparison, respectively. PRR (CI 95%) assessed the association between SMA and BI, and SMA and SC. RESULTS: Majority of participants had social media addiction (91.11%), while most reported a neutral body image (87.64%). Additionally, more than half of the participants exhibited a high tendency towards social comparison (53.15%). The study found a positive association between social media addiction and negative body image, as well as a significant positive association between social media addiction and social comparison. Obesity showed a significant positive association with negative body image perception, while being overweight was significantly associated with a lower likelihood of having a positive body image. Spending at least 4 hours per day on social media was significantly associated with a higher tendency towards social comparison. CONCLUSION These findings suggest the presence of social media addiction among young adult Filipino women and its association with body image and social comparison. Awareness of these associations can contribute to the development of targeted interventions and educational programs to promote healthier social media use and positive body image among young adults.

PURPOSE: This study was carried out to find factors affecting weight-control behavior intention in female college students based on the theory of planned behavior. METHODS: The subjects were 453 female students from everywhere other than the Gangwon Province and Jeju Island. Data were collected by using a questionnaire. RESULTS: The factors affecting weight-control behavior intention in female college students within 2 weeks were attitudes and subjective norms. These two factors accounted for 20.0% of weight-control behavior intention. Also, when body shape satisfaction and BMI were added to variables of the theory of planned behavior like attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control, these 5 factors accounted for a total of 34.1%. CONCLUSION: Due to their distorted perception in preferring skinny body shapes, female college students are likely to attempt at inappropriate weight control behavior. Through intervention with such factors as attitudes and body image satisfaction, which have been derived from the results of this study, healthy weight control behavior should be pursued in practice.

The study purpose was to examine weight control status and related factors among 370 high school girls in Seoul. Factors examined included interest toward weight control, body satisfaction, body image, beliefs regarding weight control and self-efficacy. 65.1% had attempted to control weight and were categorized into attempt group. Those in the attempt group had higher body weight (p<0.001) and BMI (p<0.001) than the counterparts. They tried to control weight 2.9 times on average (22.4 days each time). The major information sources for weight control were internet (62.8%), and TV/ radio (17.1%). Exercise was most commonly used for weight control, followed by reducing meal amount and skipping dinner. The attempt group was less satisfied with body size (p<0.001) and perceived their body sizs as heavier than the counterparts (p<0.001), but they showed more interest toward weight control (p<0.001). The ideal body size of society or the body size that they want was very thin in both groups. Twelve out of 20 beliefs regarding weight control were significantly different between the two groups. The attempt group believed more strongly on the advantages such as increased self-confidence, appearance, attractiveness (p<0.001) and 'good for making friends' (p<0.01). In contrast, the attempt group believed less strongly about the disadvantages including harmful effects on health (p<0.001), parents' dislike, feelings of discouragement (p<0.01) and becoming (p<0.05). The attempt group showed lower overall self-efficacy to control overeating (p<0.05) than the counterparts. Especially, the attempt group felt less control of overeating in situations such as eating-out, after school, when they are with family (p<0.01) or with friends, when they feel hungry, during examination periods and when others offer food (p<0.05). This study suggested that weight management education for adolescents include strategies for changing body image and beliefs regarding weight control, as well as increasing self-efficacy to control overeating.
