Objective To investigate the relationship among the spinous process open degree, the relative displacement of the lumbar facet joints(LFJ),and the morphologic change of the intervertebral foramina. Methods From Nov 2010 to Jun 2012,a total of 6 human fresh cadaveric spines was used in this study. All the ligaments were kept. The relative displacement of the corresponding segments LFJ,and the change of height and width of intervertebral foramen were measured through the corresponding open L3-4 and L4-5 spinous process, respectively. Results Lumbar degeneration was described with the following indices including the proliferation and displacement of LFJ,deformation of the intervertebral foramen morphogenesis, nerve root oppression, and lumbar intervertebral stenosis. When the interspinous process spacer was opened up to 2 mm,lumbar intervertebral foramen heights at the L3-4 and L4-5 [(15.62 ± 0.73) mm,(14.67 ± 0.75) mm] were significantly increased (t =26.00,16.02,P < 0.01) compared to the original state [(13.89 ± 0.77) mm,(12.48 ± 0.80)mm].When the interspinous process spacer was opened up to 4mm,lumbar intervertebral foramen heights at the L3-4 and L4-5 [(17.13 ± 0.78) mm,(16.74 ± 0.76) mm] were significantly increased (t =36.15,30.69,P < 0.01) compared to the original state. The foraminal height with a 4 mm distraction was significantly greater than the 2 mm distraction (t =20.82,21.72,P <0.01).When the interspinous distraction was 2 mm,L FJ displacement at the L3-4and L4-5 [(0.31 ±0.04) mm,(0.34 ± 0.07) mm] was significantly better than the original state [(0.63 ± 0.03) mm,(0.56±0.05)mm] (t =61.97,58.91,P <0.01).When the interspinous distraction was 4 mm,LFJ displacement at the L3-4 and L4-5 [(0.10 ±0.04) mm,(0.12 ±0.06) mm] was significantly better than the original state (t =18.69,18.88,P <0.01).No significant difference was found in the change of the intervertebral foramen width [(8.65 ± 0.38) mm,(7.78 ± 0.37) mm] at the 2 mm interspinous distraction compared to the original state(P > 0.05),but a statistically significant difference was found at the 4 mm interspinous distraction compared to the original state [(9.03 ± 0.41) mm,(8.05 ± 0.32) mm] (t =7.78,7.97,P < 0.01).Conclusions Spinous process shove off can effectively improve LFJ displacement, and increase the intervertebral foramen height, but the increase of its width needs to shove off enough distance.
3.The state of the art of fetal magnetic resonance imaging.
Chinese Medical Journal 2006;119(15):1294-1299
OBJECTIVETo assess the state of the art of fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in China.
DATA SOURCESBoth Chinese and English language literatures were searched in the databases of PUBMED (1998-2005) and CNKI (1998-2005), 41 published articles about fetal MRI were selected.
RESULTSFetal MRI can serve as an adjunct tool for ultrasonography because of its excellent soft tissue contrast, high spatial resolution, multiplanar capabilities, large field of view and simultaneous visualization of fetal and maternal structures. Since the development of ultrafast MRI sequences provides faster scan time and avoids motion artifacts, it is widely applied in detecting normal or abnormal fetal development, including the central nervous system, thoracic region, abdomen and others. In China, experience in fetal MRI has been scanty, but the technique will be extensively used in the near future because of its multi-faceted advantages.
CONCLUSIONSCompared with ultrasonography, MRI as a complementary imaging for fetal screening is prospective in China or other parts of the world because of its multiple superiorities.

Objective To identify the expression of sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor (S1PR) subtypes, C-myc and His tag proteins of human umbilical vein endothelial fusion cell line, EA.hy926 and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), CRL-1730 for studying the function of apolipoprotein M (ApoM)-S1P axis. Methods Two kinds of cells (EA. hy926 and CRL-1730) were cultured to reach the density of 60%-70% in vitro. Immunofluorescence technique was em?ployed to investigate the expressions of coagulation factorⅧ(FⅧ), ApoM, S1PR1-S1PR5, C-myc and His tag proteins. Re?sults (1) Two kinds of cells both expressed FⅧand ApoM. FⅧpresented scattered particle distribution in CRL-1730, while uniform distribution in EA.hy926. However, ApoM was strongly expressed and widely distributed in cytoplasm of two kinds of cells. (2) S1PR1-3 can be detected on their membrane other than S1PR4 and S1PR5. S1PR1 was highly expressed but S1PR2 and S1PR3 were in a low level expression. (3) Two kinds of cells both expressed C-myc and His tag proteins in cytoplasm. Conclusion Two kinds of cells have the properties of endothelial cells and can express FⅧ, ApoM, C-myc and His tag proteins. It is not suitable for choosing C-myc and/or His tag–conjugated recombinant ApoM to study the fuction of ApoM-S1P axis with these two kinds of cells.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2006;26(7):971-974
OBJECTIVETo screen and characterize the short peptides which bind specifically to interleukin-2 (IL-2) receptor alpha chain (IL-2Ralpha) for acquisition of small antagonists for blocking the binding of IL-2 with IL-2Ralpha.
METHODS12-mer phage displayed peptide library was screened with the target cells of MT-2 cells which expressed IL-2Ralpha at high levels. The binding phage clones were eluted by anti-IL-2Ralpha monoclonal antibody. After 3 rounds of screening, the positive phage clones were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunohistochemistry, and the amino acid sequences of the positive clones were deduced from the DNA sequences.
RESULTSSeven positive clones were screened out of the 17 phage clones bound to MT-2 cells. The positive clone M15 could bind specifically to MT-2 cell and PHA-activated peripheral blood monouclear cells. Amino acid sequence analysis identified 6 sequences, all of which contained hydrophilic residues, and 5 of these 6 sequences included Tyr, Phe and Leu conservative residues.
CONCLUSIONThe peptide sequences containing Tyr, Phe conservative residues identified in this study can bind to cell surface IL-2Ralpha.

BACKGROUND: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as bone cement, has been widely used in the orthopedic surgery. It ensures the immediate stability of prosthesis and the minimal micromotion at the cement-bone interface, allowing early weight-bearing after surgery. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the biomechanical performance of Sanders type III fracture of the calcaneus by using PMMA bone cement as a treatment. METHODS: Eight adult cadaveric ankle and calcaneus specimens were selected and served as normal controls after detection of biomechanical properties. Another eight specimens were collected and randomized into experimental group and control group to make a model of Sanders type III fracture in the calcaneus. In the experimental group, PMMA bone cement was injected into the defect area. In the control group, the artificial bone was implanted in the defect area and a steel plate was used to fix the lateral calcaneus. Biomechanical properties of the specimens in the experimental and control group were detected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Strain and stress of the calcaneus: The stress distribution of the calcaneus in the normal control group was consistent with that in the experimental group, and there was no significant difference between the two groups. The stress of the calcaneus in the experimental group was similar to that in the control group with no significant difference. (2) Displacement and axial stiffness of the calcaneus: Compared with the normal control group, the calcaneal displacement in the experimental group only decreased slightly, and there was no significant difference between the two groups, and likewise, the calcaneal displacement in the control group increased slightly. In the experimental group, the axial compression strength was (21.98±1.88) MPa and the axial compression stiffness was (1 633±150) N/mm. Therefore, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the normal control group (P > 0.05). (3) Contact strength of the subtalar joint: Fractures basically recovered with good outcomes after PMMA bone cement injection. To conclude, by using PMMA bone cement in the treatment of calcaneus fractures, the scientific validity and clinical utility can be ensured.

OBJECTIVETo explore the causes of nonspecific chronic cough in children and relationship between transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) gene polymorphisms and nonspecific chronic cough.
METHODSA total of 195 children with chronic cough were followed up half a month, one month and three months after their first visit to hospital. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to examine polymorphisms of the TRPV1 gene in the children. A total of 205 healthy or surgical children without chronic cough served as the control group.
RESULTSThe etiologic distribution of the 195 children with chronic cough was as follows: 96 (49.2%) cases of cough variant asthma (CVA), 48 (24.6%) cases of CVA complicated by upper airway cough syndrome (UACS), 34 (17.4%) cases of post-infectious cough, and 17 (8.7%) cases of UACS. Three genotypes were identified in both groups at positions rs222747 (CC, GC and GG), rs222748 (CC, TC and TT) and rs8065080 (CC, TC and TT). The frequencies of genotype and allele at position rs222747 did not accord with the law of Hardy-Weinberg. There was no significant difference in frequencies of genotype and allele at positions rs222748 and rs8065080 between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSCVA, UACS and post-infectious cough are common causes of nonspecific chronic cough in children. TRPV1 gene polymorphisms at positions rs222748 and rs8065080 may be unrelated to nonspecific chronic cough in children.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2006;26(2):208-210
OBJECTIVETo investigate the coping strategies of the community-based population in Shenzhen.
METHODSTotally 5,940 subjects from the communities in Shenzhen were sampled and tested with the Simplified Coping Style questionnaire.
RESULTSThe most common coping strategies adopted by the community residents in Shenzhen were "consoling themselves" (33.1%) and "looking at the bright side of things" (31.4%), and the least adopted coping strategy was "relieving distress by smoking, drinking, taking medicine and eating" (57.8%); the strategies left out from their choices were mostly negative strategies. The scores for positive coping strategy factors of community residents in Shenzhen were greater than those of negative ones, with a mean difference of 0.43. The scores of both positive and negative coping strategy factors of these residents were significantly lower than those of general population in other mainland cities (P<0.001), with mean differences of 0.12 and 0.36, respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe community residents in Shenzhen adopt mostly positive strategies for coping with frustration, which benefit their status of self-rated health.
