Asian Oncology Nursing 2023;23(2):56-63
Purpose:
/Objectives: To determine predictors of fall events in hospitalized patients with cancer, and identification of fall risk.
Methods:
An analysis of medical records was conducted together with a review of standardized fall reports of 565 patients admitted between January 1 and December 31, 2020. The collected data were analyzed with the chi-squared test, Fisher exact test, independent t-test, and logistic regression analysis using STATA 17 program.
Results:
There was a statistically significant increased fall risk; accompanied by a guardian (OR=10.30 CI=2.66~39.94), number of attachment devices (OR=1.30, CI=0.46~0.64), medication (OR=0.17, CI=0.04~0.84), pain (OR=4.73, CI=1.59~14.0), walking problem (OR=29.85, CI=9.31~95.74), chemotherapy (OR=5.20, CI=1.81~14.89), and fall risk score (OR=1.83, CI=1.50~2.24).
Conclusion
These findings can serve as academic evidence to support the role of nurses in assessing the risk of fall events/accidents with regard to cancer patients and the development of individually adjusted fall assessment tools.

Although tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha antagonist is a successful treatment modality for various autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis, many adverse effects have been reported. Cutaneous adverse reactions of TNF-alpha antagonist include skin rash, urticaria, lupus like rash, seborrheic dermatitis and different kinds of psoriasiform dermatitis. We report a case of psoriasiform dermatitis during TNF-alpha antagonist treatment in a 50-year-old woman with RA. The patient has been treated with adalimumab. After 2 months, she developed pruritic erythematous eruption and desquamative lesions on the head and limbs, which were defined as psoriasiform change by a skin biopsy. These skin lesions are successfully treated with combination therapy, including cessation of adalimumab, corticosteroid and phototherapy.

OBJECTIVES: Vaginal birth or trial of labor after previous cesarean section has become one of the most remarkable changes in obstetric practice. The safety and efficacy of a trial of labor and vaginal birth after previous cesarean are well documented. The purpose of this report is to predict the likelihood of vaginal birth in patients undergoing a trial of labor after previous cesarean delivery using factors known at the time of hospital admission. METHOD: In this retrospective study, 120 women who attempted vaginal birth at Kyung-Hee University Hospital from March 1997 to March 1999. An attempt to identify possible prognostic factors for success of such a trial was made and we evaluated the variables of significant predictive value and the patients' characteristics in the success group and failure group of women who attempted VBAC. RESULT: 87 cases(72.5%) in 120 cases succeeded in VBAC and 33 cases(27.5%) failed. In this comparative groups in VBAC, there was significant difference in CPD index(cephalopelvic disproportion index) and Bishop score, but no significant difference in gestational age, the estimated fetal weight by sonography and newborn birth weight. CONCLUSION: In this study, Bishop score and CPD index and age may be useful and valid predictor of success in VBAC and this information could be particularly valuable. The CPD index may prove most important in determining if a vaginal birth should occur after a cesarean section because it can clearly identify some patients who need a repeat cesarean section.

Anesthesia and Pain Medicine 2008;3(4):270-276
BACKGROUND: To reduce or prevent myocardial injury during an ischemia-reperfusion episode, some pharmacological interventions, including administering nicorandil or verapamil, have becomepopular in clinical situations. Nicorandil is a N-(2-hydroxyethyl)- nicotinamide nitrate ester, and it's effective mainly by opening the K+ ATP channels in the mitochondrial membrane, and verapamil is useful for reducing the endothelial injury of coronary vessels during ischemia. In this study, we aimed to determine the cardioprotective effect when both drugs are used simultaneously. METHODS: Isolated rat hearts (the Langendorff perfusion model) were perfused with Krebs-Henseleit bicarbonate buffer. After 30 minutes of controlled perfusion, we added nicorandil or verapamil separately and both drugs were administered together in another group (the mixed group) and we then induced ischemia for 30 minutes. We measured the heart rate, the developed ventricularpressure and the dP/dT during the control period during drug infusion and during reperfusion at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. RESULTS: During reperfusion, the mixed group showed more favorable results for the developed left ventricular pressure (LVP), the dP/dT and the rate pressure product (RPP). The heart rate was significantly decreased as reperfusion processed in all the groups. CONCLUSIONS: For myocardial protection during ischemia-reperfusion, a mixed drug regimen is more beneficial than a single drug regimen, and this occurs without inducing a significant decrease of the heart rate.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology 2007;18(4):284-288
OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to evaluate the expression of c-Met in epithelial ovarian carcinoma. METHODS: Paraffin-embedded tissues from 50 epithelial ovarian adenocarcinomas were stained immunohistochemically for c-Met expression. The expression of c-Met was correlated with clinicopathologic parameters including, histologic type, tumor size, and tumor stage. RESULTS: c-Met expression was found in 29 cases (58%) among 50 ovarian cancers. In clinicopathologic study, c-Met expression of epithelial ovarian carcinomas did not show the correlation with clinicopathologic parameters such as histologic type, tumor size and stage. CONCLUSION: c-Met expression might be a potential prognostic marker for patients with advanced stage epithelial ovarian cancers. However, larger population-based studies should be performed to determine the prognostic potential of c-Met expression in advanced ovarian carcinoma.

A case of recurrent rhinocerebral mucormycosis that has occurred during an induction chemotherapy for acute megakaryocytic leukemia in a 10 year-old boy is reported. He had suffered from high fever, proptosis, right eye ball pain and necrotic inflammation of hard palate during the chemotherapy of leukemia. CT scan of the paranasal sinus showed inflammatory change of right ethmoid and maxillary sinuses, and right orbital cystic mass which displaced medial rectus muscle. Pathologic examination of the inflammatory mass revealed mucormycosis with characteristic hyphae invading vessel walls. He was managed with 2 times of extensive debridement of necrotic tissue and currettage of cystic mass, and intravenous amphotericin-B for 80 days with apparent improvement. Seven months after discharge from the hospital, necrosis of posterior nasal septum and hard palate was noted for second time. It was managed again with 2 times of extensive debridement. Since this last operation he is on follow-up for 16 months uneventfully and is on therapy with low dose Ara-C in continuous remission.

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology 2008;19(1):93-98
Ascites following radical hysterectomy with retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy for invasive cervical cancer has been reported previously. Most of these reports described chylous ascites. The chylous ascitic fluid is milky; further, chylous ascites leads to nutritional problems. Authors present the case of a patient who developed serous ascites following radical hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy. The amount of ascites was approximately 18,000 ml over 52 days. The patient had no nutritional problems or complications. Although the etiology could not be determined, Authors surmise that the ascites may have been due to massive drainage from injured lymphatic channels below the cisterna chyli. Authors could not found any literatures which described massive serous ascites following surgery in gynecologic malignancy and reports this case with review of literatures.
