Objective To compare retrospectively the clinical outcome of total knee replacement with and without patellar replacement. Methods From January 1994 to December 2000, 109 knees in 86 patients treated for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis were evaluated postoperatively using a questionnaire and physical examination. There were 17 males and 69 females with the age ranging from 37 to 80 years (average 65.7 years). The osteoarthritis was 8 knees and rheumatoid arthritis 69 knees. Forty-two knees underwent patellar replacement, and 67 knees with reserved patella. The patients were scored using HSS Score for knees and Feller Score for patella. AP and lateral views of the knee as well as 30? and 90? axial views of the patella were taken in radiography .The data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results Replacement and non-replacement groups showed no obvious difference in post-operative knee function and the incidence of complication. The two groups showed statistical significant differences in scoring on climbing and descending stairs and rising from sitting position, the results suggested the replacement group scored slightly better than the nonreplacement group. Post-operative anterior knee pain occurred more commonly in the non-replacement group and showed significant difference (P

Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma concentration of osteopontin (OPN) and disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).Methods The plasma concentration of OPN in 28 healthy controls and 38 SLE patients was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results The plasma concentration of OPN was significantly higher in SLE patients compared to that in the healthy controls (420?203 ng/mL vs 73?14 ng/mL,P<0.001),in the patients with proteinuria com- pared to that in the patients without proteinuria (623?88 ng/mL vs 288?135 ng/mL,P<0.001),in the patients with active disease compared to that in those with inactive disease (529?143 ng/mL vs 185?66ng/mL,P<0.001),in the patients before treatment compared to that in the patients after treatment (556?130 ng/mL vs 142?22 ng/mL,P<0.001).The plasma concentration of OPN in patients with arthritis was not different from those without arthritis (489?153 ng/mL vs 375?222 ng/mL,P>0.05).Plasma concentration of OPN showed a significant positive correlation with systemic lupus erythematosus disease ac- tivity index (SLEDAI) (r=0.93,P<0.001),but a significant negative correlation with serum C3 level (r=-0.49,P<0.05).There was no correlation between plasma concentration of OPN and antinuclear an- tibody titre, erythrocyte sedimentation rate,or serum level of C4.Conclusions These data show that plas- ma OPN level has some correlation with the SLE activity, renal damage and progression or amelioration of SLE.OPN could be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE.

Surface electromyogram (sEMG) may have low signal to noise ratios. An adaptive wavelet thresholding technique was developed in this study to remove noise contamination from sEMG signals. Compared with convention- al wavelet thresholding methods, the adaptive approach can adjust thresholds based on different signal to noise ratios of the processed signal, thus effectively removing noise contamination and reducing distortion of the EMG signal. The advantage of the developed adaptive thresholding method was demonstrated using simulated and experimental sEMG recordings.

Chinese Journal of Immunology 1986;0(04):-
Objective: IFN-y is produced by both activated T and NK cells in response to mitogen or antigen and has a broad range of immunoregulatory activity. IL-12 has been described as a strong inducer of IFN-?production and promotes the differentiation of naive CD4+T cells toward the Th1 phenotype, priming them for IFN-?production, and consequent induction of cell-mediated immunity. Aim is to know endogenous production of IL,12 from PBMC inducing production of IFN-?in vitro, which is involving in mechanism of T cells to be activated. Methods: Induced IFT-? secretion from human PBMC by stimulated with anti-CD3 , PHA, anti-CD3 plus anti-CD28 and antigen(MLC) Also inhibited IFN-?production by neutralizing antibodies to IL-12 and IL-12R?1 significantly. Results: IFN-?secretion from human activated PBMC is endogenous IL-12dependent, and activated T cells induce the production of IL-12 from APC by a mechanism involving the interaction between CD40L on T cells and CD40 on APC. Conclusion: These results suggest that endogenous IL-12 plays an important role in the normal host defense against infection by a variety of intracellular pathogens and also plays a central role in the genesis of some forms of immunopathology including autoimmune diseases and transplantation rejections.

As the medical college students are scattered to each practice hospital, the status of the secondary clinical medical colleges' education management to interns is weakened, and the problems and contradictions are becoming increasingly prominent. In the process of internship education management, through the establishment of the secondary medical colleges' interconnection management working mecha-nism, we can effectively solve the outstanding problems in the current internship edu-cation management, to achieve mutual trust between the secondary clinical medical college and the training hospital, and en-hance the effectiveness of the management of interns.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;30(6):520-524
Background Growth factor-induced proliferation and migration of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells are the major pathological changes of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).Arsenic trioxide ( As2O3 ) is an active ingredient of Chinese traditional medicines, which has an inhibition on proliferation and migration of tumor cells. However,it is not clear whether As2O3 could inhibit growth factor-induced proliferation and migration of RPE cells. Objective This study was to explore the effects of As2O3 on epidermal growth factor (EGF)-induced proliferation and migration of ARPE-19 cells. Methods RPE cell line (ARPE-19 cells) were cultured.Different concentrations of As2O3(0,0.5,1.0,2.0,5.0,10.0,20.0 μmol/L) were added in the culture plate to treat ARPE-19 cells with or without 10 mg/L EGF in serum-free group for 24 and 48 hours, respectively. The MTT colorimetric assay was used to check the cell viability and evaluate the drug toxicity. The effects of As2O3 on EGF-induced proliferation of ARPE-19 cells were analyzed to get an effective and avirulent concentrations of As2O3.The effects of As2O3 on EGF-induced migration of ARPE-19 cells were observed by scratch-wound assay and the Boyden chamber assay. Results MTT assay showed that the A values were gradually declined with the increase of As2O3 concentrations after As2O3 treatment without EGF for 24 hours and 48 hours ( Fgroup =38.269,P =0.000 ; Ftime =0.874,P =0.358 ).Compared with the control group,no significant differences were seen in the A values of ARPE-19 cells in 0.5-5.0 μmol/L groups (all P>0.05).Meantime,As2O3 reduced the A values of ARPE-19 cell with 10 mg/L EGF in dose- and time-dependent manner ( Fgroup =152.155,P =0.000 ; Ftime =51.649,P =0.000 ).There were not significant differences in 10 mg/L EGF-induced cell growth after 0.5,1.0,2.0 μmol/L As2O3 was added for 24 and 48 hours ( Fgroup =2.215,P =0.126 ;Ftime =2.230,P =0.155).However,when 5.0-20.0 μmol/L As2O3 added, the A values of 10 mg/L EGF-induced ARPE-19 cells lowed, showing a significant difference in comparison with the control groups ( all P<0.05),with the cellular inhibiting rate 12%,32%,37% in 24 hours and 39%,44% and 53% in 48 hours.Scratch-wound assay showed that EGF-induced horizontal migration of ARPE-19 cells was slow after 0.5-2.0 μmol/L As2O3 treated, and the same results also appeared in cell lognitudinal migration by Boyden chamber assay, with the inhibitory rates 22%,33% and 46% respectively. Conclusions As2O3 is avirulent on ARPE-19 cells within definite concentration range. At ≤ 2.0 μmol/L concentrations,As2O3 dose not affect EGF-induced proliferation of ARPE-19 cells, but it suppresses EGF-induced cell migration. At ≥ 5.0 μmol/L concentrations,As2O3 plays an inhibitory role to EGF-induced proliferation of ARPE-19 cells.

A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) using benzoic acid as template molecule, 4-vinyl pyridine (4-VP) as functional monomer, ethylene dimethacrylate (EDMA) as cross-linker, was prepared by bulk polymerization. The needle-type gas concentrator was developed using the MIP as adsorption medium. The device was coupled with gas chromatography (GC) for the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The effect of polymerization conditions on adsorption property, such as polymerization time, ratio of the reagents, pre-polymerization time, type of solvents, type of template molecules, has been evaluated. The results of gas chromatographic analysis demonstrated that the optimum conditions for getting the best adsorption performance of the synthesized were polymerization time 6 h at 60 ℃, the ratio of the reagents (template molecule : functional monomer : cross-linker) 1∶ 4∶ 20, pre-polymerization time of 3 h, acetonitrile as solvent, benzoic acid as template.
