Heat shock protein of 72 kDa (HSP70) has a role in the functional modulation of sex steroid hormone receptors and in p53-associated oncogenesis and inhibits apoptosis associated with bcl-2. However, the exact role of HSP70 in the development of endometrial adenocarcinoma has not been well established. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of HSP70 in relation with ER, PR, p53 and bcl-2 expressions and apoptosis in benign and malignant endometrial lesions. Immunohistochemical studies for HSP70, ER, PR, p53, bcl-2 and TUNEL method for apoptosis were performed in 30 cases of adenocarcinoma and 30 cases of benign endometrial lesions consisted of each 10 cases of disordered proliferative endometrium (DP), simple or complex hyperplasia (HP), and atypical hyperplasia (AH). There were no significant differences of HSP70 and bcl-2 expression rates and apoptotic index (AI) between DP, HP, AH, and adenocarcinoma. p53 expression rate in adenocarcinoma was 36.7%, but no p53 expression was identified in DP, HP and AH (p<0.05). In adenocarcinoma, HSP70 expression rate was higher in ER and PR negative adenocarcinoma (p<0.05), and p53 expression rate was higher in nonendometrioid type and FIGO grade II and III (p<0.05), but no significant difference of bcl-2 expression rate according to the histological type and FIGO grade. AI was higher in nonendometrioid type (p<0.05). There was no correlation between HSP70, p53 and bcl-2 expressions, and no significant difference of AI according to HSP70, ER, PR, p53, and bcl-2 expressions. In conclusion, higher HSP70 expression rate in poorly differentiated and ER and PR negative adenocarcinoma suggests that HSP70 inhibits ER and PR expression and may be involved in the development of poorly differentiated endometrial adenocarcinoma.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2023;64(7):613-619
Purpose:
To explore the subjective eye health status of Korean adolescents by the extent of Internet use in 2009-2010 and smartphone use in 2020.
Methods:
We secondarily analyzed the results of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey performed by the Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency that enrolled Korean adolescents aged 12-18 years. Changes in internet use time from 2009 to 2019 and smartphone use in 2020 were examined. Questionnaires exploring subjective eye health were administered in 2009, 2010, and 2020. We performed complex logistic regression analysis.
Results:
A total of 748,490 subjects were enrolled. Korean adolescents used the Internet for an average of 2.48 hours (h) on weekdays and 4.06 h on weekends in 2019, thus significantly more than the 2009 averages of 1.93 h on weekdays and 2.96 h on weekends (both p < 0.001). In 2009 and 2010, the average internet use time on weekends significantly and positively correlated with subjective eye problems (odds ratio = 1.161, p < 0.001). The average smartphone use time was 4.72 h on weekdays and 6.56 h on weekends in 2020. In that year, the average smartphone use time on weekends (odds ratio = 1.049, p < 0.001) and smartphone overdependence (odds ratio = 8.636, p < 0.001) significantly and positively correlated with the presence of subjective health problems.
Conclusions
Internet and smartphone use time on weekends affect subjective eye health.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2024;65(2):167-171
Purpose:
To report a case of papillophlebitis treated with an intravitreal bevacizumab injection in an adolescent patient.Case summary: A 15-year-old female with no medical history presented with a 3-day history of blurred vision and a floating sensation. The initial visual acuity (VA) was 0.0 logarithm of minimal angle of resolution (logMAR) in the left eye. A fundus examination revealed a blurry disc margin, peripapillary hemorrhage, and venous engorgement. Optical coherence tomography indicated subretinal fluid (SRF) accumulation. Both color vision and pupillary reactions were normal in bilateral eyes. Blood tests revealed no significant abnormalities. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed mild focal papillitis, but the patient did not report eye movement pain or discomfort. The diagnosis was papillophlebitis; however, high-dose steroid treatment was not initiated due to the absence of a significant decrease in VA. A single injection of intravitreal bevacizumab was administered to address the SRF. At the 9-month follow-up, VA remained at 0.0 logMAR, and the retina demonstrated anatomical stabilization after complete absorption of the SRF without recurrence.
Conclusions
Papillophlebitis can manifest during adolescence. Treatment of a 15-year-old patient with intravitreal bevacizumab obviated the need for high-dose steroid therapy and produced favorable outcomes, including preservation of VA and anatomical stabilization of the retina.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multisystemic autoimmune disease in which the kidneys are frequently involved. Clinical diagnosis of SLE is based on the criteria of American Rheumatism Association (ARA). A few cases who were classified as SLE by the ARA criteria but were antinuclear antibody (ANA)-negative have been reported. It was reported that critical factor in ANA positivity is the choice of substrate. It is generally accepted that the cultured cell of human origin, especially HEP-2 cell, is better than tissue section or animal cells. Thus, the ANA test is negative only in approximately 2M of SLE patients when human tissue culture cells are used as substrate. We report a 25-year-old man admitted to our hospital because of generalized edema. He was found to have active lupus nephritis(WHO class IV), photosensitivity and pancytopenia. The result of FANA test which used HEP-2 cell as substrate was repeatedly negative, but anti-ds DNA and anti-Ro antibody were positive.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2003;33(5):521-524
The authors describe three patients of syringomyelia associated with posterior fossa tumor. The lesions were diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging. Total removal of tumor without decompression of foramen magnum was done and regression of syringomyelia and improvement of symptoms were demonstrated. It is suggested that the blockage of cerebrospinal fluid flow at the foramen magnum by tonsilar herniation may play an important role in syrinx formation.

Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research 2024;30(1):54-64
Purpose:
This descriptive survey study aimed to examine the effects of grit, social support, job crafting, and evidence-based practice competency on job satisfaction among nurses. Methods: The participants of this study were 211 clinical nurses with experience of more than six months. Data were collected using through an online survey from February 1 to February 17, 2023. The questionnaires was consisted of general characteristics, grit, social support, job crafting, evidence-based practice competency, and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics(frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 28.0 program.
Results:
The average scores of the main variables were 3.08±0.44 out of four for grits, 3.67±0.52 out of five for social support, 4.20±0.64 out of five for job crafting, 4.84±0.71 out of seven for evidence-based practice competency, and 3.72±0.55 out of five for job satisfaction. In the regression model, the factors affecting the nurses’ job satisfaction were grit (β=0.66, p<.001) and social support (β=0.11, p=.046), which explained 78.7% of the variance in job satisfaction. Job crafting and evidence-based practice competency were correlated with job satisfaction; however, there was no statistically significant effects of these variables on job satisfaction.
Conclusion
Based on the findings of this study, grit and social support showed the most significant effects on the job satisfaction of nurses. Therefore, active support is needed to develop a strategy to improve nurses’ grit and to create a supportive work environment, which would be helpful to increase their job satisfaction.

Renal leiomyoma, a rare benign tumor, is a challenging diagnostic and therapeutic condition. The preoperative diagnosis of renal leiomyoma is very difficult, and the only definite method to distinguish between a leiomyoma and other renal tumor is postoperative microscopic evaluation. We report a case of leiomyoma of the kidney which was managed by radical nephrectomy under the impression of malignant renal mass which was incidentally found by ultrasonographic examination for health check in a 43-year-old woman.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2005;43(5):593-598
BACKGROUND: Nickel-sensitive patients may suffer from persistent dermatitis even if they avoid cutaneous contact with nickel-plated items. Therefore, an endogenous cause of nickel-induced dermatitis has been suggested. In Western countries, many studies suggested that reduction of dietary intake of nickel might benefit nickel-sensitive patients. OBJECT: We measured the nickel content of Korean foods, since a nickel-restricted diet is essential for nickel-sensitive patients. METHOD: We ground the food, then nitric acid, sulphuric acid, and fluoric acid were added to the ground foods to dissolve organic matter. We then measured nickel content in these samples using Inductive Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry. RESULTS: A green tea bag contained 235.57mg Ni/kg, a black tea bag 62.79mg Ni/kg, chocolate 27.87mg Ni/kg, crisps 12.70mg Ni/kg, wheat flour 12.15mg Ni/kg, Welsh onion 0.026mg Ni/kg, garlic 0.016mg Ni/kg, milk 0.004 mg Ni/kg, egg 0.002mg Ni/kg, and salt 0.0mg Ni/kg. CONCLUSION: High nickel concentrations were found in green tea bag, chocolate, crisps, wheat flour, coffee bean, peanuts, and kimchi etc. On the other hand, rice, barley and spice had low content of nickel. Formulation of nickel-restricted diet using these results is expected to be helpful in the treatment of nickel-sensitive patients.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2003;33(4):358-362
OBJECTIVE: The authors report the evaluation of the surgical outcomes and postoperative complications for the 39 cases of parasagittal meningioma. METHODS: Thirty-nine patients have undergone operations for parasagittal meningioma between March 1994 and March 2002. The medical records and neuroimaging studies of thirty-nine patients were surveyed retrospectively to find out the perioperative clinical status, radiologic findings, operative methods, and postoperative complications. RESULTS: Preoperative symptoms were motor weakness(12), seizure(11), headache(11) and so on. The parasagittal meningioma was classified into lateral attachment(27), partial occlusion(4) or total occlusion(8) according to the degree of infiltration and into anterior one third(7), middle one third(28) or posterior one third(4) from the viewpoint of the origin site. The degree of tumor removal was classified into Simpson Grade: Grade I(13), Grade II(24), Grade III(2). Suture of the opened sinus was done in seven patients going through an operations. Four patients of them underwent sinus opening for mass removal and the others due to operative injury. Total removal of the sinus segment was carried out in six patients. The draining veins of six patients got injuried, those of four patients and the others respectively were coagulated and sutured. Postoperative complications were motor weakness(11), CSF leakage(9), seizure(1) and hemorrhage(1). CONCLUSION: However, most of the weakness is transient, the preservation of intracranial collateral circulation is important to minimize the motor weakness. The effort for complete tumor removal is required in parasagittal meningioma to take recurrence into account.
