Background. Ultrasound remains to be an ideal imaging tool for the diagnosis of various conditions in the body. However, the cost and unavailability of the commercial acoustic gel continue to hamper the tool's diagnostic value in low-resource communities.
Objectives. The study aims to investigate the feasibility of extracts of common Philippine succulents as ultrasound acoustic gel, based on image quality parameters, organoleptic characteristics, spreadability, pH, and viscosity.
Methods. Aloe Vera, common houseleek, burro's tail, snake plant, echeveria, crown of thorns, panda plant, and jade plant were extracted and filtered before subjecting them for a physical evaluation. The evaluation analyzed the organoleptic characteristics, spreadability, pH, and viscosity of the formulated gels. The commercial acoustic gel was used as the reference gel. Three experienced ultrasonographers blindly evaluated a total of 243 images obtained using the formulated gels based on four image quality parameters.
Results. The formulated gels had optimal appearance, texture, homogeneity, and pH value. However, all of the extracts had a lower viscosity than the commercial reference gel. The extract obtained from the burro's tail exhibited the highest viscosity among the tested extracts. There was no significant difference in the image quality parameters among the commercial and formulated gels.
Conclusion. The extracts obtained from the succulents are feasible as an acoustic gel for ultrasound imaging based on the physical and image quality analyses. The tested plants are readily available and easy to produce compared to commercial acoustic gel.

Primary mixed germ cell tumor is a very rare tumor in the cranial cavity. It is composed of varying combination of germ cell neoplasms, such as germinoma, embryonal carcinoma, choriocarcinoma and teratoma. The authors experienced a case of mixed germ cell tumor developing in the floor of the third ventricle, in a twelve years old boy. He was admitted to the hospital, because of headache, eyeball pain, diplopia and vomiting. Brain CAT scan revealed a round tumor density in the floor of the third ventricle. Tumor marker study, preoperatively checked, revealed beta-HCG, 439.8 mIU/ml and alpha-fetoprotein, under 20 ng/ml. On operation, there was a dark brown firm mass up to 3.0 cm in the third ventricle, that invaded into the foramen Monro. With microscopic examination, this tumor is composed chiefly of germinoma, with embryonal carcinomatous region, choriocarcinomatous region and focal mature teratomatous region. The authors diagnosed this case as mixed germ cell tumor.

6.About the compound with biological effect extracted recently from leaves of Clerodendron fragrans
Pharmaceutical Journal 1998;272(12):10-12
The new flavonoid was isolated from the leaves of clerodendron fragrans Vent. Its structure was confirmed by various spectrum of IR, UV, MS, 1H, C13-NMR, DEPT, COSY as 5, 7, 8-trihydroxy-4, -methoxy flavone (I). That flavonoid composition presented good antioxiadant activity. Its effect on cathepsin activity in human blood was studied and showed that flavonoid increased cathepsin activity at optimum concentration.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2005;15(1):73-78
MOH-decision of minister of health, No 3947/2004/QD-BYT, 8/11/2004 amendent of “Regulartion of registation of vaccines and medico-biologicals” medical bio products.
Complemetary to article 3, section 5 of the regulation of vaccine registration, medical bio products issued together with the decision No 1012/2003/QD-BYT dated 30/07/2003 as follows: vaccines, biomedical products were registered, within the valid time, if the price is changed differently from the registered document, the registree have to report to the Ministry of Health. The new amended form 3, 4 and 9 are to replace the old form 3, 4 and 9 in the regulation of registration of vaccines and biomedical products.

8.Some biochemical parameters related to blood glucose mutation of total blood storage at the Central Institute of hematology and transfusion
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;494(11):6-8
The study was carried out in six stored blood by CPD-A1, at the first, 4th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 35th and 42nd days of the blood stored. The results showed that: The plasma glucose and pH; 2.3-DPG concentration were decreased, plasma lactat was increased gradually during blood stored by time, the difference was significantly than that in the first point of time with p<0.001. The plasma G-6-PD and PK activities were significantly decreased during blood stored by time.

9.Study on extraction isolation, identification of biological effects and content of steroid hormon on some echinoderms of Vietnam
Pharmaceutical Journal 2004;44(6):13-18
The extraction, the activity and the content of hormons (testosteron, estrogen and progesteron) from some Echinodermata at Viet Nam were reported. The subjet: Echinodermata collected at Thanh Hoa and Nha Trang. The result: The solven system of methylen chloroid and of methanol have higher effect than of ethanol and ether ethylic. The extracts from egg of sea star, sea urchin tested on white rat and rabbit were proved to have activity of testosteron, estrogen and progesteron. Egg of sea star, sea urchin, pyloric ceaca of sea star and meat of Bohadschia argus Jaeger have adequately steroid hormones (testosteron, estrogen and progesteron). In pyloric ceaca of see star, the content of testosteron, estrogen and progesteron are higher than in their egg

10.Comparison of bioavailability of rifampicin in fixed dose combination (3-FDC) with standard separate tablet
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;510(4):85-88
Study on 12 healthy volunteers using 2 types of medication: rifampicin, isoniazid, and pyrazinamid standard separate tablets and in fixed dose combination of rifampicin + isoniazid + pyrazinamid (3- FDC). Results: rifampicin is one of essential anti-tuberculosis drugs that have most advantages of pharmacodynamics on both intra- and extra-cellular bacteria. Cmax (maximum concentration in plasma) and AUC 0-∞ (Area Under the Concentration-Time Curve) of rifampicin in 3- FDC is lower than that in standard separate tablet, Tmax (Time to Maximum Plasma Concentration) of rifampicin in 3- FDC is more slowly than in standard separate tablet. These findings showed that the bioavailability of rifampicin in FDC tablet that was using in treating tuberculosis is much lower than in standard separate tablet.
