AIM To study the flavonoids from the leaves of Astragalus membranaceus (Fish.) Bge..METHODS The ethyl acetate and n-butyl alcohol fractions of 75% ethanol extract from A.membranaceus leaves were isolated and purified by silica,ODS and preparative HPLC column, then the structures of obtained compounds were identified by spectral data.RESULTS Thirteen compounds were isolated and identified as quercetin (1),quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2),rhamnocitrin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (3),rhamnocitrin-3-O-β-neohesperidoside (4),rhamnocitrin-3-O-3-D-glucopyranoside (1'''→2'')-β-D-apiofuranosyl (5),complanatuside (6),glycitein (7),4',7-dihydroxy-3-methoxy isoflavone (8),genistein (9),calycosin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10),genistin (11),glycitin (12),tiliroside (13).CONCLUSION Compounds 5,8,13 are isolated from genus Astragalus for the first time, and compound 2 is first isolated from this plant.

Intein is a part of polypeptide in the premature protein with the capability of self-splicing, which is widely applied in protein purification, protein conjuction, cyclopeptide preparation, protein labeling and biosensor. In this review, we summarized the development of intein used in protein purification, discussed intein-mediated chromatographic and non-chromatographic purification systems, and summarized the researches in manipulating intein cleavage reaction. This work is to provide clues for improvement of intein-mediated protein purification.

Localized peripheral neuropathy amyloidosis is a rare disease that mainly occurred in elder people who present with focal neurological symptoms. AL is the main type of amyloid protein. Biopsy is the golden standard for diagnosis. Mass spectrometry and immunohistochemical analysis help to confirm the type of amyloid protein. This paper retrospectively analyzes the clinical and imaging data, auxiliary examinations, histological, and immunohistochemical markers. The patient, a 34-year-old woman, presented with a right neck mass and weakness of the right arm. Brachial plexus magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a tumor-like lesion in the nerve root at C5 and C6 and in upper trunk. Electrophysiological studies revealed damage in the upper trunk of the brachial plexus. Positive staining with Congo red was found in brachial plexus biopsy. Mass spectrometry showed that the type of amyloid protein was AHL(G-λ). The patient underwent nerve graft for treatment. Meanwhile, literature review revealed that the average onset age of localized spinal nerve amyloidosis was 62.4 years old.The radial nerve was the most susceptible, followed by the lumbosacral plexus. Fifty percent of the type of amyloid protein is AL.Until now, no consolidated treatment is available. Here, we summarize the clinical characteristics of localized peripheral neuropathy amyloidosis in order to raise the awareness of the disease.

Coal is one of the major fuels, which brings huge energy and economic benefits to global industry and daily life. large amounts of coal dust produced in the process of coal mining and transportation, which seriously threatens the health of related workers. Productive coal dust exposure not only directly leads to respiratory diseases, but also may cause health damage to various systems throughout the body. Numerous studies have shown that coal dust exposure is closely associated with decreased lung function, coal worker's pneumoconiosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, and the severity of diseases is affected by coal rank, coal dust concentration, cumulative dust exposure, coal dust composition, and individual lifestyle, etc. The article comprehensively summarized the progress of the epidemiological studies on the health hazards of coal miners from coal dust exposure, in order to provide clues for further researches on health damage and protect the health of the occupational population.
