Objective: To study the effects of long chain PUFA, AA and/or DHA on the fatty acid composition, growth and development of the newborn rats hippocampal neurons in culture. Methods: The primary culture of the hippocampal neurons was carried out in vitro by using serum free medium and supplementing 4 ? mol/L AA, DHA, or AA and DHA, of which the total concentration were 4 ?mol/L, the ratios of AA∶DHA from 1∶2 to 16∶1, in medium. The hippocampal neuronal fatty acid composition was analyzed by gas chromatogram, and the neuronal size and length of hippocampal neurite were measured by image analysis. Results: There were significant positive correlations between the ratios AA∶DHA in medium and the AA percentage and the ratios AA∶DHA in hippocampal neurons. The soma area? body maximum? minimum diameter and process length of hippocampal neurons in the group, which the total concentration of AA and DHA was 4 ?mol/L, and the ratio AA∶DHA in medium was 2∶1 or 4∶1,were higher significantly than other groups and groups with other ratios of AA∶DHA. Conclusion: AA and DHA could promote the growth and development of hippocampal neurons in culture..

Objective To explore the correlation between histological chorioamnionitis (HC) and brain injury in preterm infants. Methods Three hundred and forty-seven cases of infants at the gestational age of 28-31 weeks who were admitted to the neonatology department of our hospital were analyzed retrospectively. They were divided into the HC group and the control group according to the pathological examination. Moreover, HC group was divided into FV group and non-FV group according to the pathological findings of fetal vasculitis (FV). Based on the findings of periodical ultrasonography, the incidences of periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), periventricular-intraventricular hemorrhage (PVH-IVH), and the PVL+PVH-IVH were compared among groups. Results The incidences of PVL in the HC group and the control group were 17.9% and 10.3%respectively. The incidences of PVL+PVH-IVH in the two groups were 5.5%and 1.48%respectively, and the difference between two groups was signiifcant (P<0.05). The incidences of PVH-IVH in the two groups were 28.9%and 26.2%respectively, and the difference between two groups was not signiifcant (P>0.05). In the HC group, the incidences of PVL in FV group and non-FV group were 28.1%and 9.87%respectively, and the difference between two groups was signiifcant (P<0.05). The incidences of PVH-IVH in FV group and non-FV group were 34.3%and 24.7%respectively, and the difference between two groups was not signiifcant (P>0.05). The incidences of PVL+PVH-IVH in FV group and non-FV group were 7.81%and 3.70%respectively, and the difference between the two groups was not have signiifcant (P>0.05). Conclusions HC may increase the ncidences of PVL and PVL+PVH-IVH in the preterm infants, while its effect is minimal on PVH-IVH. FV could increase the incidence of brain injury in preterm infants.

objective To compare the technical survival between Tenckhoff double-cuffed straight catheter (TC)and swan-neck curled tip catheter (SNC) in peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods Clinical data of 208 patients received PD in the Peritoneal Dialysis Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 1999 to December 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were divided into two groups according to indwelling catheter. Technical survival and complications associated with the catheter between two groups were compared. Results Demographics and basic information were similar in both groups. The exit-site infection (ESI) rates of TC and SNC were 22.1% and 19.8% (P=0.786), and peritonitis rates of TC and SNC were 31.1% and 22.1% (P=0.159), which were slightly lower in SNC group, but the difference was not significant. Removal of the catheter was found in 27 (13.0%)patients, including 17 cases in TC group (13.9%) and 10 cases in SNC group (11.6%)(P=0.680).The median survival times of catheter in TC group and SNC group were 25 months and 22 months respectively without significant difference (P=0.103). Conclusions There are no significant differences of ESI rate, peritonitis rate and catheter survival between these two catheters in PD. The expensive swan-neck catheter offers no additional advantage. Doctors should choose the catheter according to the economic status of patients.

Soil archaea and fungi play important roles in the greenhouse soil ecosystem. To develop and apply rich microbial resources in greenhouse ecological environment, and to understand the interaction between microbes and plants, we constructed archaeal 16S rRNA and fungal 18S rRNA gene libraries to analyze the compositions of archaeal and fungal communities. Total greenhouse soil DNA was directly extracted and purified by skiving-thawing-lysozyme-proteinase K-SDS hot treatment and treatment of cetyltriethylammnonium bromide (CTAB). After PCR amplification, retrieving, ligating, transforming, screening of white clones, archaeal 16S rRNA and fungal 18S rRNA gene libraries were constructed. The sequences of archaea and fungi were defined into operational taxonomic units (OTUs) when 97% similarity threshold for OTU assignment was performed by using the software DOTUR. Phylogenetic analysis showed that crenarchaeota and unidentified-archaea were the two major sub-groups and only a few of euryarchaeota existed in the archaeal clone library, total 45 OTUs. All the crenarchaeota belonged to thermoprotei; except for Basidiomycotina, the other four sub-group fungi were discovered in the fungal library, total 24 OTUs. The diversities of archaea were very abundant and a few euryarchaeota (methanebacteria) existed in the archaeal clone library, it might be directly related to the long-term high temperature, high humidity, and high content of organic matter. The limitation of oxygen was the other reason for causing this phenomenon; Ascomycotina (over 80%) was the dominant sub-groups in fungal library. It was because most of the plant fungal diseases belonged to soil-borne diseases which gone through the winter by the ways of scierotium or perithecium and became the sources of primary infection.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2021;23(11):1668-1672
Objective:To explore the correlation between the expression levels of serum estradiol and otolin-1 and the recurrence of postmenopausal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).Methods:A total of 116 postmenopausal female patients who were diagnosed with primary BPPV in the Vertigo Treatment Center of Beijing Geriatric Hospital from January 2018 to December 2019 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into recurrence group (27 cases) and the non-recurrence group (89 cases) according to the recurrence during follow-up. The basic data, laboratory indexes and complications of the two groups were compared. The serum estradiol level was detected by electrochemiluminescence and the serum otolin-1 level was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive value of serum estradiol and otolin-1 in the recurrence of postmenopausal BPPV patients; Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of recurrence in postmenopausal BPPV patients. Results:The proportion of severe cough in the recurrence group was higher than that in the non-recurrence group ( P<0.05); the level of estradiol in the recurrence group was significantly lower than that in the non-recurrence group ( P<0.05), and the level of otolin-1 was significantly higher ( P<0.05); ROC results showed that the areas under the curve (AUCs) of serum estradiol and otolin-1 for predicting the recurrence of postmenopausal BPPV patients were 0.852 (95% CI: 0.774-0.911) and 0.722 (95% CI: 0.631-0.801) respectively, and the cut-off values were 18.09 pg/ml and 361.79 pg/ml respectively; Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that severe cough, estradiol ≤18.09 pg/ml, and otolin-1 >361.79 pg/ml were independent risk factors for recurrence in postmenopausal BPPV patients ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The serum estradiol level of patients with postmenopausal BPPV recurrence decreases, and the level of otolin-1 increases. The abnormal level is an independent risk factor affecting the recurrence of patients with postmenopausal BPPV.
