Objective To study the clinical features of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) in order to improve the clinical diagnosis. Methods Clinical data of fifty patients with PBC were retrospectively studied. The clinical features, results of laboratory tests, pathological findings of all the fifty patients were analyzed. Results forty-four patients were female (88%), and the mean age was 44.94?12.33 years at the time when definite diagnosis was made. The most frequent symptoms complained were fatigue (34/50, 68%), anorexia (24/50, 48%) and pruritus (13/50, 26%).The major signs included jaundice (32/50, 64%), splenomegaly (24/50, 48%) and liver palms (14/50, 28%). Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and r glutamyl transpeptidase (r-GT) levels were markedly elevated in most patients, and the levels of ALP and GGT declined during the advanced stage. The levels of ALT and AST were elevated slightly. The total level of serum bilirubin was elevated in thirty-two patients (64%). Positive anti-mitochondrial antibody (AMA)/AMA-M2 were found in forty-one patients (82.0%). Pathological examination was done in 32 patients, it was shown that 28 patients (87.5%) were in early stage and 4 patients (12.5%) in advanced stage. Conclusion PBC occurs mainly in middle- and old aged women. The main clinical manifestations are fatigue, anorexia and pruritus. The elevated level of ALP, r-GT and positive AMA/AMA-M2 may be crucial to diagnosis of PBC.

Professor XIE Qiang's Tihu Guanding needling method, a kind of acupuncture method which takes acupoints of the Conception Vessel as the primary and acupoints of the Governor Vessel as the secondary. Acupoints Lianquan (CV 23), Tiantu (CV 22), Qihai (CV 6), Zhongwan (CV 12), Baihui (GV 20) and Dazhui (GV 14) are adopted as the basic ones. Other points can be added according to various symptoms, for instance, Yingxiang (LI 20) and Yintang (GV 29) for rhinopathy, Tinggong (SI 19) and Yifeng (TE 17) for otopathy, Yan'an (Professor XIE's experience) and Shanglianquan (EX-HN 21) for pharyngopathy and Kaiyin 1 (Professor XIE's experience) and Kaiyin 2 (Professor XIE's experience) for laryngopathy. During the needle retention, rotation manipulation should be done every 5 min at Lianquan (CV 23). And the patient should be told to put the tip of one's tongue at the the palate as well as to do deep breathing to communicate the Conception Vessel and the Governor Vessel. Moxibustion is adopted at Yongquan (KI 1) to induce the up floating fire to mingmen (where the primary yang is stored). The therapeutic effect on treatment of persistent otorhinolaryngologic diseases with the above mentioned method is approve to be good.

Objective To investigate the inhibitory effect of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor celecoxib alone and in combination with somatostatin (SST) analog octreotide on human gastric cancer. Methods Fifty one gastric cancer patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. The patients in control group(n=15)took no medicine before gastric cancer resection. Celecoxib group(n=18)patients took celecoxib orally 0.2 g/d for 7 days before surgery. Combination group(n=18) patients took celecoxib orally 0.2 g/d and were injected octreotide 100 ?g/d subcutaneously for 7 days before surgery. The resected specimens were examined histologically, including status of tumor necrosis, inflammatory cells infiltration and fibrous tissue proliferation. The microvessel density (MVD) and the expression of COX-2 in gastric cancer were evaluated by immunohistochemical methods. The apoptosis of tumor cells was measured by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferse-mediated-dUTP nick end labeling. The expression of somatostatin receptor (SSTR) -1,SSTR-2 and SSTR-3 mRNA in gastric cancer tissue obtained by biopsy in all patients were detected by using real time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR. AIM To evaluate whether l glutamine monofluorophosphate(MFP) together with Alendronate sodium may further increase bone mass in ovariectomized rats. METHODS Forty two 3 month old Sprague Dawley female rats were randomized into six groups:group 1 rats were sham operated(Sham),group 2 rats were ovariectomized controls(Ovx),and groups 3～6 were ovariectomized and received either 1 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of alendronate sodium ,270 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of calcium gluconate,5 6 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of MFP or combination of 5 6 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of MFP and 1 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of alendronate sodium for 3 months. All animals received double bone fluorochrome labeling prior to sacrifice. At the end of experiment,the left tibiae were havested for histomorphometrical evaluations. RESULTS Alendronate sodium increased trabecular bone volume significantly with suppressed bone resorption and bone formation. Administrated calcium gluconate had no influence on the bone mass. MFP also could not restore cancellous bone of ovariectomized rats. Administration of both MFP and alendronate sodium increased bone mass significantly but did not increase bone mass compared with alendronate sodium. CONCLUSIONS The results indicated administration of both alendronate sodium and MFP could not further increase bone mass of ovariectomized rats.

Objective To explore the baggy eyelids anaplasty through posterior orbital septum fat displacement. Methods Orbital septum and posterior orbital septum fat were exposed through palpebral margin incision, internal orbital septum fat was released and sutured with arcuate expansion of capsulopalpebral fascia at the middle lower eyelid, which was taken as the function of tighting the flaccid lower eyelid at transverse direction. On such a basis, the muscle and skin were repaired and so did orbital septum and baggy eyelids.Results Ofthe 38 patients with this operation, baggy eyelids anaplasty was performed with satisfactory results.Conclusion The method of baggy eyelids plasty through posterior orbital septum fat displacement could reduce hemorrhage, prevent enophthalmos and decrease baggy eye palindromia, with better long-term effects.

Objective To investigate the effects of probiotics on the occurrence of ovalbumin (OVA) induced food allergy and the regulatory effects on immune function of rat models. Methods Thirty female Brown-Norway rats aged 3 weeks were randomly divided into blank control group,food allergy group and probiotics intervention group(n=10).The levels of serum OVA-IgE and intestinal sIgA were measured by ELISA method.Splenic lymphocytes were isolated and cultured in vitro,and the Treg lymphocyte subgroups in the spleen were analyzed by flow eytometry.The levels of IFN-γ,IL-4 and IL-10 in the supernatant of cultured splenic lymphocytes were measured by ELISA method. Results The serum OVA-IgE level in food allergy group was significantly higher than that in blank control group(P<0.05),while that in probiotics intervention group was significantly lower than that in food allergy group(P<0.05).Compared with food allergy group and blank control group,the level of intestinal sIgA in probiotics intervention group was significantly higher(P<0.05).The percentage of CD4~+CD25~+T lymphoeytes in food allergy group was significantly lower than that in blank contml group(P0.05).The levels of IL-4 and IL-10 in food allergy group were significantly higher than those in blank control group(P<0.05).Probiotics intervention group had significantly lower levels of IL-4,IL-10 and IFN-γ than food allergy group(P<0.05).The ratio of IFN-γ/IL-4 in food allergy group was significantly lower than that in blank control group(P<0.05),while that in probiotics intervention group was significantly higher than that in food allergy group(P<0.05). Conclusion Probioties intervention could prevent the occurrence of food allergy in animal models by modulating the Th1/Th2 eytokine balance.

7% (OR=4.640,95%CI=1.064 to 20.239,P=0.041) were the high risk factors for myocardial ischemia in patients with type 2 diabetes.Conclusion Poor control of the 4 factors is the high risk factor for myocardial ischemia in patients with type 2 diabetes.Overall and effective control of such risk factors can decrease the incidence of myocardial ischemia and improve its treatment.

Objective To analyze antimalarial assosiated retinopathy detected by different methods with of modern ocular fundus examination, and explore screening strategy and the diagnosis of hydroxych-loroquine assosiatedretinopathy according to clinical experience and international guidelines. Methods Full fundus examination was performed in two patients with antimalarial retinopathy. The related literature were reviewed. Results Two patients had bull's eyes maculopathy and abnormal visual fields. Conclusion Clin-icians' alertness to hydroxychloroquine related retinopathy may improve early diagnosis of hydroxychloroquine toxicity. New objective tests are more sensitive than visual fields examination. Visible bull's-eye maculopathy is a late change, and the goal of screening is to recognize toxicity at early stage.
