Objective To observe the effects of sodium arsenite (NaAsO2) on the expression of transcription factor nrf2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) in Chang liver cells, and to explore the possible mechanism by using buthionine sulfoximine ( BSO), a GSH synthesis inhibitor. Methods Chang liver cells were treated with NaAsO2 at the doses of 5, 10 and 20 ?mol/L, alone, for 24 h, or pretreated with BSO (3 mmol/L, 12 h). Western blot assays were used to detect the protein expression of Nrf2 and HO-1. Methods: 5 cases with serious maxillofacial or mandibula r deformities underwent distraction by using 2 types of intraoral distraction d evice.Mandibular lengthening and maxillary widening for micrognathia and maxilla ty constriction was performed in 1 case with Treacher Collions syndromes. M axillary distraction osteogenesis for maxillary hypoplasia in 2 cases.Simultaneo us maxillary and mandibular distraction in 1 case with hemifacial microsomia. T ransport distraction for mandibular body rectangle defect in 1 case. Objective:To study the ultrastructural characters and mineral content of the newly formed bone induced by distraction osteogenesis(DO) in the canine mandibular defects.Methods:4 beagle canines were used to establish 2.0 cm segmental mandibular defect surgically. Intraoral bifocal distraction osteogenesis was used to repaire the defects. After a 10-day latency, the transport disc was advanced at a rate of 0.5 mm? 2/day until the bone fragment was docked at the planned position. Specimen retrieval at 35 weeks after completion of distraction, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) analysis was then performed. The mineral content was measured by electron dispersive spectroscopy.Results:35 weeks after application of DO the mandibular defects were completely filled with regenerated bone. The regenerated bone was compact, sturdy and mature. The new bone was closed to the transport disk. The Ca/P content ratio was 1.80 in the regenerated bone and 2.02 in the transport disk.Conclusion: DO may induce new bone formation and may be used to repaire mandibular defects.

Objective:To explore the roentgenographic and biomechanical characters of distraction osteogenesis(DO) in the treatment of mandibular defect.Methods:4 beagle dogs were used to establish 2.0 cm mandibular defect model,after 6 months, a 1.5 cm transport disc was surgically created adjacent to the defect area in an intraoral way, and intraoral device was placed on the transport disc and the base bone segments.A reconstructive plate was applied to stabilize the bone segments. After a 10 day latency period, the transport disc was advanced at a rate of 0.5 mm ? 2/day until the bone fragments were docked at the planned position.35 weeks after completion of distraction the animals were sacrificed,specimen retrieval,roentgenography and the stress testing were performed.Results:The regenerated segments were comparable with the corresponding segments of native mandible,and exact location of junction between the regerated and preexisting bone could not be determined easily. Roentgenographic revealed that the defects were reconstructed with outer cortical layer and trabecular medullary cavity of the bone.The regenerated segments remained less radiodense than the native mandible.Stress test demonstrated that the average ultimate strength of regenerated segmens was (69.4?19.2) MPa,that of the corresponding normal mandible was (86.9?31.9) MPa,and that of junction between transport disc and base bone was(46.9?8.4) MPa. Conclusion:Intraoral distraction osteogenesis may be feasible in the treatment of mandibular defect.

Ginseng is a typical adaptogen which has resistance to various stresses. This effect is related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. As the main active ingredients, saponin has the similar structure to steroids. The regulation characteristics of ginseng saponin on the HPA axis are narrated from the aspects of total saponin and saponin monomers in this paper after the introduction of adaptation definition and HPA axis regulation mechanisms. Pharmacological effects of ginseng saponin and the regulation effect of HPA axis are summarized finally.

Objective To study the clinical significance of magnetic resonance imaging in evaluation of diagnosis and treatment of tibia plateau fractures accompanying with knee joint injures.Methods From July 2000 to November 2005,52 cases of tibia plateau fractures were examined by X-ray and Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),which could accurately diagnose the splitting and depression degree of tibia plateau fractures and the knee joint injures.Results There were 52 cases of tibia plateau fractures,including 14 cases lateral plateau fractures,11 cases medial plateau fractures,11 cases total plateau fractures,18 cases tear-off fractures of tibia.MRI could accurately display fractures accompanying with knee joint injures,including fragmentation of catilago articularis,lancination and displacement of meniscus,lancination of collateral.According to MRI displacement direction of tibia plateau fractures and areas of depression could be accurately evaluated before operations.Conclusion MRI can accurately diagnose the feature of tibia plateau fractures and knee joint injuries.And according to the scope of fractures,the best treatment methods can be chosen.

Objective To investigate the features and prognosis of noncompaction of ventricular myocardium (NVM) in Chinese.Methods The clinical features of 16 NVM patients were analyzed and 15 patients were followed prospectively.Results Familial occurrence were found in seven patients.Six came to hospital for heart failure and two for chest pain.Arrhythmias were found in six patients.Six patients were asymptomatic.Fifteen patients were followed prospectively for 52.06?8.46 months.In the follow-up,three patients died and heart failure occurred in one asymptomatic patients.One patients accepted permanent pacemaker.Five patients were still asymptomatic.Conclusion In general,the prognosis of NVM is poor,but the outcome is better in patients without symptom.The early diagnosis is important.

Objective To investigate the change of endocrine, cAMP and potential mechanism in asthenia cold syndrome rats. Method The rats were randomly divided into normal group and asthenia cold model group. The model group were treated with intramuscular injection of hydrocortisone for 14 days, and the normal group with NS. The content of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and adenylate cyclase (AC), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), dopamine (rT3), cortisol (COR), cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) was detected by radioimmunoassay (RIA). The content of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) was detected by chemiluminescence. Result The content of T3, T4, rT3, COR, cAMP were decreased, the activity of AC was decreased, the conent of ATP was increased. Conclution The function of the endocrine system was suppressed in asthenia cold rats, which can down-regulate cAMP and lead to asthenia cold syndrome.
