1.Influence of energetic metabolism alteration on cardiac myocyte apoptosis
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2000;0(12):-
A Review Many studies indicate that apoptosis is involved in the progression of congestive heart failure. At present, mechanisms that mitochondria regulates cell apoptosis is widely accepted.Cardiac myocytes have abundant mitochondria, which plays an important role in maintenance of cell physiological function. Recent studies find that cardiac energy metabolic shifts occur as a normal response to diverse physiologic and dietary conditions and as a component of the pathophysiologic processes which accompany cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, and myocardial ischemia. Both clinical and experimental studies show that cardiac function can be improved and apoptosis is inhibited by intervention in energetic metabolism of myocytes. Objective To measure changes of definitive volume of rebuild CT image in three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) treatment planning system (TPS) under different scanning and observing conditions, which may provide a reference in selecting proper condition of scanning and observing, delineating target volume, and delivering treatment plan. Methods A self-made phantom was scanned under different CT scanning conditions, datas were imported to TPS, CT images were rebuilt in three dimensions under different observing conditions, and then the volumes of large, middle and small simulated tumors on CT images were compared with their real volumes. Results The volume defined by rebuilt CT imags in 3DCRT TPS varied according to different scanning and observing conditions. When scanning axial thickness was set at 10. 000 mm, errors of large, middle and small simulated tumor were - 13.60%, - 17. 68% and - 27. 53%, respectively. When 0. 625 mm was set, errors changed to -0. 50%, -0. 68% and -0. 81% ,respectively. When scanning pitch was set at 0. 562, 0. 938, 1. 375 and 1. 750, the errors were - 1.06%, - 1.09%, 5.52% and 4.75%, respectively. Extreme observing condition, window width and window level markedly increased errors of definitive volume of rebuilt CT images with a maximum of 80. 06%. Conclusions This study may provide clues in selecting scanning and observing condition, delineating target volume, and delivering treatment plan.

Objective:To study the coronal microleakage of flared root canal teeth restored with computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)fiber post and core.Methods:60 extracted human mandibular premolars with single canal were divided into 3 groups randomly(n =20).The roots of the teeth were restored with CAD/CAM glass fiber post and core(group A), prefabricated glass fiber post(group B)and gold alloy dowel-and-core(group C)respectively. The specimens were immersed in India ink for 4 weeks.Subsequently all teeth were demineralized, dehydrated and rendered transparent. Then coronal microleakage was ob-served with stereomicroscope.Nonparametric data were analyzed. After that,All the specimens was demineralized completely in nitric acid,Then the interface between the post, resin cement and canal wall was observed and recorded. Results:The microleakage was found in all the 3 groups, group A and C showed less microleakage than group B(P <0.05).But no difference was detected between group A and C(P >0.05).Microleakage mostly appeared at the interface between post and resin cement in group A and C,while in group B,it appeared between resin cement and the wall of root canal totally.Conclusion:CAD/CAMfiber post and core demonstrates less coronal microleakage than prefabricated glass fiber post.

Background:CXC chemokine receptor type 2(CXCR2)is a member of G protein coupled receptor superfamily, and is mainly involved in the growth of tumor, angiogenesis and the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. Studies showed that CXCR2 was associated with the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),but the exact role has not yet been clarified. It was found that the interaction of interleukin-8(IL-8)with CXCR1 and CXCR2 played an important role in the pathogenesis of IBD. Aims:To investigate the expressions and significance of CXCR2 and IL-8 in patients with IBD. Methods:A total of 121 IBD patients in active stage from October 2013 to December 2014 at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University were enrolled and assigned into Crohn’s disease(CD)group and ulcerative colitis(UC)group. Seventy healthy subjects were served as controls(HC). Expressions of IL-8 mRNA and CXCR2 mRNA in peripheral blood and intestinal mucosal tissue were determined by real-time PCR;expression of CXCR2 protein in intestinal mucosal tissue was determined by Western blotting. Results:In peripheral blood, expression of IL-8 mRNA in UC group was significantly higher than that in HC group(P = 0. 017),while expressions of CXCR2 mRNA in CD,UC and HC groups were not significantly different (P = 0. 285). In intestinal mucosal tissue, expressions of IL-8 mRNA in CD,UC and HC groups showed no significant difference(P = 0. 206),while expressions of CXCR2 mRNA in CD and UC groups were significantly higher than that in HC group(P = 0. 002;P < 0. 001),and expression of CXCR2 mRNA in UC group was significantly higher than that in CD group(P = 0. 005);expressions of CXCR2 protein in UC and CD groups were higher than that in HC group(P = 0. 049 P =0. 080). Conclusions:Expressions of CXCR2 mRNA and protein in intestinal mucosal tissue of patients with IBD, especially UC are significantly increased. Down regulation of CXCR2 expression in intestinal mucosa may provide a new target for treatment of UC. IL-8 is significantly highly expressed in peripheral blood of patients with UC,which suggests that IL-8 might be related mainly with UC.

Exposure to low-dose radiation (LDR,mostly less than 100 mGy) may reduce the vulnerability of exposed tissues to subsequent high-dose radiation (HDR)-induced damage,a phenomenon known as adaptive responses, which occurs via mechanisms including anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior.Using the available literature, this review will examine whether there is any effect of LDR on AD.The available evidence shows that although LDR can alter the expression of some genes related to AD such as Apbb1,Lrp1,and Il1α,these alterations do not cause AD-like syndromes in animals, suggesting that LDR may also simultaneously upregulate several protective mechanisms that prevent the eventual development of AD.Furthermore,LDR seems capable of improving the symptoms of AD,as evidenced by the experience of an 81-year-old female AD patient. This patient was diagnosed with AD more than 10 years ago and gradually progressed to advanced AD in 2015,despite routine treatment. The patient then received about 12 computed tomography scans (about 40 mGy each) up until Nov.2017,which significantly improved her quality of life and reduced several AD symptoms. The improvement in this patient's medical condition led to a few recent clinical trials investigating the effects of LDR on AD.To date, there is no efficient therapy available for AD,thus whether exposure to LDR at 100 mGy can provide a preventive or therapeutic effect for AD is an important issue. If LDR is a potential treatment for AD,as suggested by this reported case, this non-invasive approach would also bear the merit that it would be unlikely to cause a significant radiation health risk,as the LDR could be delivered locally to the head without any impact on other organs.
