Objective To observe the change of liver sinusoid in BALB/c mice infected with Schistosoma japonicum and explore its relationship between the degree of hepatic fibrosis and liver function. Methods A model was established in BALB/c mice infected with cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum. The liver specimens of mice were used for pathological examination with routine and picric acid-sirius red staining to know the degree of hepatic fibrosis by semi-quantity. The expressions of C-IV and vWF in liver sinusoid were assayed through the immuhistochemistry staining. The serum ALT and AST were detected by the automatic biochemistry analyzer, and the ultramicrostructure of the liver tissue was observed by a transmission electron microscope. Results The number and diameter of fenestrations in SEC reduced 4 weeks after the infection. The fenestrations were disappeared and the base membrane established 8 weeks after the infection. The expressions of C-IV and vWF in liver sinusoid and the degree of hepatic fibrosis increased with the time after infection. The levels of serum ALT and AST were not correlated with the infection time. Conclusions The phenotype alteration of the hepatic sinusoidal endothelium may be a vital issue triggering the liver fibrosis induced by Schistosoma japoncium.

Objective To investigate the species of Acaroid mites breeding in the stored traditional Chinese animal medici?nal materials and the relationship between its community and habitats. Methods A total of 30 samples of traditional Chinese animal medicinal herbs were collected from Wuhu City,Anhui Province,China. The mites were isolated by the directly micro?scopic and floatation microscopic examinations, and then identified and counted under a light microscope. Results Acaroid mites was represented in 28 of the 30 samples, and the breeding rate accounted for as high as 93.3%(28/30). Totally,13 spe?cies of Acaroid mites were identified, which belonged to 4 families and 9 genera. The densities of Acaroid mites were top in 6 Chinese herbal medicines, such as corium erinacei, aspongopus, hirudo, pheretima aspergillum,Apostichopus and huechys. The diversity parameters of these six traditional Chinese animal medicinal herbs were calculated. The highest richness indexes were in aspongopus and hirudo, the highest diversity index was in hirudo, and the highest evenness index was in Apostichopus. Conclusions There are Acaroid mites breeding in parts of the traditional Chinese animal medicinal herbs stored in Wuhu. In the storage and processing of Chinese herbal medicines,we should pay attention to the prevention and control of mites.

Objective To investigate the effects of Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccine (PA) on proliferation and invasiveness of the hepatocellular carcinoma cell line MHCC97L with metastatic potential. Methods Proliferation, growth curve, plate efficiency, flow cytometry, transwell invasion assay, cell motility assay, scarification test, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) protein activity were evaluated after cells were treated with PA at various concentrations. Results PA can inhibit the proliferation and plate efficiency of MHCC97L cell markedly in a dose-dependent manner. The IC50 of cells treated with PA for 48 h and 72 h was 3.1 ×108/ml and 1.9 × 108/ml, respectively. The doubling time increased and plate efficiency decreased gradually when cells treated with 0.5 × 108/ml, 1 × 108/ml and 2 × 108/ml PA (P<0.01). PA could induce cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase in a dose-dependent manner by flow cytometric analysis. The average amount of invading cell per field in cell invasion assay and motility assay were 4. 8 ± 1.3 and 8. 8±2.2 when cells treated with 1× 108/ml PA, which was significantly lower than that of control group (8. 6±2. 1 and 15. 6±1.2 ) (P<0.01) Scarification test showed that the metastatic ability of cells treated with 1 × 108/ml PA significantly lower than that in the control group. Comparison between cells treated with 1 × 108/ml PA and control group, no remarkable difference was found regarding expression of VEGF and MMP2 in supernatant of cell culture. Conclusion PA can inhibit proliferation and plate efficiency of HCC cell line MHCC97L, which is in part mediated by the cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase. PA could inhibit invasiveness of HCC cell line MHCC97L, which is unrelated to the VEGF and MMP2 protein activity.

Objective:To discussed the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), and the use of laparoscopic surgery in management of patients with choledochal cyst with extrahepatic bile duct anomaly. Methods:Of 330 consecutive patients who underwent laparoscopic choledochectomy at Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center from January 2010 to September 2018, there were 23 patients with extrahepatic bile duct anomaly. The data of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. There were 4 males and 19 females, with an average age of 3.2 (range 0.3~9.0) years. According to whether the extrahepatic bile duct anomaly was diagnosed by preoperative MRCP, these patients were divided into the preoperative MRCP diagnosis group and the preoperative MRCP undiagnosed group. The impact of MRCP in diagnosing bile duct anomaly to prevent bile duct injury, on operation time, hospital stay and the types of extrahepatic bile duct anomaly on outcomes of laparoscopic treatment were analyzed. Results:All the 23 patients with choledochal cysts complicated by extrahepatic bile duct anomaly were confirmed at surgery. The incidence of extrahepatic bile duct anomaly was 6.97% (23/330). There were 47.8% of type II AHD (11/23); 36.8% of type III AHD (7/23); 4.3% of type IV AHD (1/23); 17.4% (4/23) of the type with communication with accessory bile duct (CABD). The preoperative MRCP diagnosis group consisted of 14 patients, while the preoperative MRCP non-diagnosis group consisted of 9 patients, including 2 patients without MRCP. The diagnostic rate of MRCP in preoperative diagnosis of extrahepatic bile duct anomaly was 66.7%(14/21). The preoperative MRCP undiagnosed group, when compared with the preoperatives MRCP undiagnosed group, had a significantly higher bile duct injury rate [preoperative MRCP diagnosis group 7.1%(1/14), preoperative MRCP non-diagnosis group 55.6%(5/9)], and a significantly longer operation time [preoperative MRCP diagnosis group(232.6±10.0) min, preoperative MRCP undiagnosed group (278.9±22.45)min], (all P<0.05). Laparoscopic surgery was completed in 22 of 23 patients. One patient was converted to open surgery. AHD reconstruction was needed in 11 patients with type II AHD and 1 patient with type IV AHD. Seven patients with type III AHD did not require any surgical intervention for the anomaly. The 4 patients with CABD underwent simple ligation. Postoperative chyloperitoneum developed in 1 patient, who successfully responded to conservative treatment. Postoperative recovery was uneventful in the remaining patients. At a median follow-up of 2 years (range 1 to 5 years), no further complications, including intrahepatic bile duct dilatation and hepatic atrophy were detected. Conclusions:MRCP was effective in preoperative diagnosis of choledochal cysts with extrahepatic bile duct anomaly. It helped to decrease intraoperation injuries to bile duct anomalies. MRCP was also useful in classifying patients with extrahepatic bile duct anomaly to better preoperatively planning of surgical treatment strategies. Laparoscopic surgery could be completed in the majority of these patients with good postoperative results.

Objective To investigate the correlation between the stroke-related risk factors and carotid stenosis lesions of ≥40 year′s old Han and minority populations in a community in Beijing as well as the clinical value of carotid ultrasound screening. Methods An investigation of risk factors for stroke and the results of carotid artery ultrasound screening in 510 cases (≥40 years old) Han population and 243 minority population in a community in Minzu University of China in Beijing in April 2014 were analyzed. Results (1)The prevalence of hypertension of the Han population was significantly higher than that of the minority population (53. 5% [n=273] vs. 44. 4% [n=108]; χ2 =5. 43,P=0. 02). (2) The detected rate of carotid intima-media thickness ( IMT ) of the Han population was higher than that of the minority population (77. 5% [n=395] vs. 69. 1% [n=168]; χ2 =6. 03,P=0. 01). There was no significantly difference in the detected rates of carotid plaques and carotid artery stenosis between the two groups (χ2 =0. 56,1. 13 respectively, all P>0. 05). (3) Hypertension and smoking were the independent risk factors for carotid-intima thickening in Han population ( hypertension:OR,1. 851;95% CI 1. 213-2. 825; smoking:OR,2. 311;95% CI 1. 065-5. 016;all P<0. 05). Hyperlipidemia was an independent risk factor for carotid artery intima-media thickening in the minority population (OR,2. 586;95% CI 0. 952-8. 694,P<0. 01). Conclusion To investigate the risk factors for stroke in minority population in China are of particular importance for the prevention of carotid atherosclerotic disease. Carotid ultrasound examination is an important diagnostic technique for early detection of carotid atherosclerotic disease.
