Objective To investigate the relationship of plasma level of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with essential hypertension. Methods The plasma level of BNP was measured with electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method in 32 hyper- tensive patients without left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) (NLVH group), 30 patients with essen- tial hypertension with LVH (LVH group), and 30 healthy adults (control group). Doppler echocar- diography was employed to determine left ventrieular mass index (LVMI) and observe the correlation of plasma BNP level with LVMI. Results The plasma BNP level was significantly elevated in LVH group than that of NLVH group and control group (P<0.01). The plasma BNP level was significant- ly higher in NLVH group than that of control group (P<0.01). BNP level was positively correlated with LVMI in hypertensive patients with LVH (r= 0.64, P<0. 01). Conclusion BNP level may reflex the degree of left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension.

Objective To explore the effect of hemorrhage on cell apoptosis in the hippocampal CA1 region of rats under controlled hypotension (CH).Methods A total of 36 Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: Group C (with no CH) and Group H (with CH).According to different ratios of blood loss to total blood volume, Group C and Group H were redivided into 6 subgroups (6 in each group):C_1,H_1(10%);C_2,H_2(20%);C_3,H_3 (30%). Induced by so-dium nitroprusside and esmolol, the mean aterial pressure in Group H was decreased to 50～55 mmHg and kept for 10 minutes, and then blood loss was started, keeping the pump speed. Without CH, the same style of hemorrhage was performed in Group C. The aterial pressure was increased 60 minutes later after the hemorrhage.Expression of bcl-2 and caspase-3 protein was detected by immunohistochemical method, and apoptosis cells were detected by TUNEL staining. Results The average optical density of bcl-2 and caspase-3 was higher in Group H_3 than that in Group C_3(P＜0.05). There were more apoptosis cells examined by TUNEL in Group H_3 than in Group C_3(P＜0.05).Conclusion Thirty percent blood loss under controlled hypotension can induce cell apoptosis in hippocampal CA1 region in rats.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of fixed inclined bite plate on jaw bone and dentition in juveniles with Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion.Methods: Eighteen patients(10 male and 8 female aged 11.5～13.8 years old) were treated with fixed inclined bite plate for bite-opening, twelve patients(6 male and 6 female) were involved as the control. Cephalograms were taken before and after the treatment.Results: After treatment ANB was significantly reduced and mandibular development was improved; AFH and PFH were significantly increased; the first molar in mandible was siginificantly elongated.Conclusion: Fixed inclined bite plate is effective in the improvement of sagittal skeletal relationship and in the orthodontic treatment in the juveniles with Class Ⅱ division 1 malocclusion.

Objective:To explore the effect of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy(PMCT) on treatment of patients with hepatic carcinoma.Methods: The clinical data of 60 cases of liver cancer patients in our hospital in TACE combined with PMCT were analyzed. Results:The operation was successfully performed, no serious complications and death. Efficacy: 4 CR cases, 38 PR cases, 16 SD cases, 2 PD cases, the total efficiency of treatment was 70.0%; After 1, 2, 3 year, survival cases (ratio) were respectively: 46(76.7%), 35(58.3%), 31(51.7%); The levels of Serum alpha fetoprotein (AFP) after operation was significantly reduced, after treatment, the patient's liver function improved significantly; The diameter of the lesions was significantly reduced.Conclusion: TACE combined with PMCT is an effective therapy for hepatic carcinoma.

Objective To observe the effects of VEGF antisense oligonucleotide transfected to SGC-7091 cell line on expression of VEGF and survivin of the cell.Methods The VEGF-ASODN was synthesised artificially.There were five groups in this experiment: control group,missense group and three various concentration groups.After transfection,RNA copies were detected by real-time PT-PCR,VEGF protein in cell and culture supernate was detected by ELESA,survivin protein was measured by Western-blot,and apoptosis was detected by FCM.Growth of cells was evaluated by growth curve.ResultsVEGF-ASODN tranfection reduced the VEGFmRNA and VEGF protein expression in gastric cancer cells and supernate remarkably.It also reduced survivin protein expression and increased apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.Conclusions Transfection with VEGF-ASODN to gastric cancer cells SGC-7901 can reduce the expression of VEGF,and can increase apoptosis and suppress the proliferation of gastric cancer cells.

Objective To explore the test-retest reliability of the computerized dynamometer to measure the grip strength in the healthy subjects and cervical radiculopathy patients, and investigate their characteristics. Methods The grip strength of 20 healthy subjects and 26 radiculopathy patients were measured with dynamometer, including the maximal voluntary grip strength at 5 width twice and the 10 s sustained isometric grip at the second width (45 mm) of the dynamometer once. Results The Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.947～0.989 in healthy subjects, and 0.903～0.960 in cervical radiculopathy patients. The maximal voluntary grip strength of healthy subjects was significantly stronger than that of the radiculopathy patients (P<0.05). The decrease rate of grip strength in non-dominant side, if affected, in the cervical radiculopathy patients was significantly slower than that of the healthy subject's non-dominant side (P<0.05). Conclusion The computerized dynamometer is a reliable tool to evaluate the grip strength in both healthy subjects and cervical radiculopathy patients. The grip strength of healthy subject's is stronger than of the radiculopathy patients. The endurance of grip is better in the radiculopathy patient's non-dominant side if affected.

Objective To study regularity of atherosclerosic development and distribution in extracoronary arteries and its relation to risk factors in high risk group of atherosclerosis. Methods 　 Extracoronary atherosclerosis was investigated with ultrasound in subjects exposed to multiple cardiovascular diseases and undergone stepwise multiple regress analysis with cardiovascular risk factors. Results 　 Incidence of carotid, subclaviscular , abdominal aortic , femoral and common iliac artery atherosclerosis was 73%, 63%, 56%,54% and 51% respectively. The simple atherosclerostic plaque is the most common of three types(P<0.01); The incidence and IMT of femoral, abdominal aortic and iliac artery atherosclerosis were significantly higher in coronary artery disease (CAD) than those in the other groups(P<0.01);The incidence and IMT of carotid artery atherosclerosis in subjects with stroke were significantly higher than those in other groups;The age,systolic blood pressure and triglyceride were significantly associated with extracoronary atherosclerosis. Conclusion 　In descending order of incidence of extracoronary atherosclerosis,these were carotid,subclavicular,abdominal aortic,femoral and common iliac artery. The atherosclerosis of femoral,iliac and abodominal arteries was closely associated with CAD,and the atherosclerosis of carotid artery was significantly associated with stroke.

Objective　To investigate regularity of intimal-medial　thickness（IMT）of extracoronary artery (including carotid, femoral and common iliac arteries ) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods　Atherosclerosis of carotid, femoral and common iliac arteries was investigated with ultrasound in 115 subjects undergone coronary arteriography (CAG). Stepwise multiple regression analysis and Logistic regression were carried out between the results of extracoronary artery ultrasound examination and CAG.Results　The IMT and incidence of carotid, common iliac and femoral atherosclerostic plaques in patients with positive CAG were significantly higher than the subjects with negative CAG (P<0.01); Logistic regression indicated that the presence or absence of carotid, common iliac, femoral atherosclerosis was closely correlated with CAD (β were 2.147, 2.813 and 3.204 respectively,P<0.05,<0.01,<0.005 respectively. Odds ratio were 8.797,16.666 and 24.642 respectively,P<0.001). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that common iliac and femoral IMT were closely associated with LOG (1+Gensini′s score) (P<0.0001). For each increased 1 mm of common iliac and femoral IMT, the LOG (1+Gensini′s score) increased 0.20 and 0.19 respectively. Furthermore, the carotid artery IMT was also partly associated with LOG (1+Gensini′s score) (P<0.05). Common iliac atherosclerosis was closely correlated with occurrence of acute myocardial infarction,the positive predictive value of carotid, common iliac, femoral atherosclerosis was 75%, 87%, 88% respectively, the positive predictive values for 2 sites and 3 sites were 92%～98% and 100% respectively.Conclusions　The presence or absence and the extent and severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis can be predicted through investigating extracoronary artery atherosclerosis.Common iliac and femoral arteries can be asurrogate and window for studying the occurrence, progression of coronary artery atherosclerosis.
